This was the first basketball season in years that it was actually fun to watch Pitt. We were relevant and entertaining. We were far from perfect, but overall we achieved far more than any reasonable fan could have expected from the season.
From my perspective, this season really showed that if you can shoot (particularly the 3) you can win in college basketball. We weren't particularly athletic, we were never particularly good defensively (and sometime we were outright bad) and we weren't a great rebounding team; we did share the ball well (most of the time) and when we got hot we were hard to stop.
Next year is going to be very interesting to say the least. We're losing the core of this team in Burton, Cummings, Sibande, and Elliot. We have some good pieces coming back and we have what appear to be some talented freshmen coming in. It will be interesting to see how Capel fills out the lineup and then distributes minutes. I am particularly interested to see how the twins develop.
Finally, next year is quite important to Capel. If he can find a way to have another solid year we can say that he's turned the program around. A crap year means a reversion to the mean of the prior four years and would spell trouble. Let's hope for another solid year.
