Capel to Georgetown

1 bubble in 5 years? I’d hope she believes she can hire another coach to get those same results
Inherited a mess of a program and had to recruit virtually due to pandemic restrictions. Now that JC can do in person recruiting the results got much better. But continue your rants.

Yes, everyone else did not recruit virtually during the pandemic?

He also recruited the 33rd best class 2018 and a top 30 class in 2020.

Iowa State was 2-22 overall and 0-18 in conference just 2 seasons ago. The Cyclones have already been to the Sweet 16 and going back to the NCAA Tournament this year.

Not that it's fair to measure a coach by those standards, but one tournament appearance in 5 years (where Pitt would be lucky to be a 9 seed) is rather unspectacular. And while he deserves credit for giving the program some life this year, 3 of the last 4 games have been garbage performances (fought hard at Miami) Not really the way you want to go into March.

Don’t bring facts or nuance to this discussion. They are UNWANTED! Only feelings

Wait, so you think James Franklin isn’t good at his job…. But Jeff Capel is? He literally just won 11 games and the Rose Bowl and has finished in the top 10 5 of the last 7 years. Who do you think does a good job in football then?

Oh that's right you hate on Pitt football too.

Wtf are you talking about? I love Pitt football??? I go to every game lol.

I don’t post on the football board because it’s a cesspool

James Franklin has nothing to do with Pitt football. Wh do you think is a good football coach

What about those of us who think Franklin and Capel are pretty good 🤐

Cesspool like your making this board

Fact is I'm not wasting anymore energy on you. Keep being 2 faced and I have zero respect for people who do that. Also I come on here to chat Pitt hoops not to constantly read bashing and bitching.
I’m gonna ask Theresa Nuzzo if she has a spot for you next year. Apparently you can only function in group think

The transfer portal and NIL era didn't even exist 5 years ago. Common man, this is like comparing ice cream to roadkill. There is no comparison. None.

We have 9 scholarship players available right now and have 2 freshmen bigs in our rotation. If you can find me 5 other teams in college basketball that are down to 9 players because of injuries or whatever other reason and made the tournament this year, be my guest. Good luck finding 2 teams down to 9 scholarship players with 2 freshmen bigs. Ill even make it easier and give you multiple years to try.

WHO DO YOU THINK IS A GOOD FOOTBALL COACH IF A GUY WHO IS 78-36 with 5 of the last 7 season top 10 isnt? I’m genuinely asking
Big10 is so overrated and considering all the great recruiting they do he has a losing record playing top 10 opponents.

Under Franklin, the Nittany Lions are 2-15 against top-10 teams and 1-10 against top-5 teams. Since taking over as head coach in 2014, Penn State football is 1-8 against Ohio State and 3-6 against Michigan — the two best teams in the conference.

I agree he’s not an ELITE coach. But he’s a solid coach

Was in Vegas recently and a couple of casinos in downtown offer 10x behind the pass line. It can be very fun when there's a hot roller.
10x!!! Sheesh.

Bad rolls so far. I’m the worst roller in craps history. Going to Vegas for BetMGM poker open in June, which casinos you recommend? I’ve mostly stayed at Mandalay because of proximity to airport when I’ve been there

LoL. Duke famously won the NCAA Tourney with 8 scholarship players in 2015.

No. You used a team of 5 stars that used more than 8 for the entire season. And you used a team from 8 years ago from the most dominant college basketball program in the last 30 years.

Because of injuries Xavier is only playing seven guys now, and one of them doesn't play a lot (for instance yesterday he played six minutes). Maryland frequently plays seven and sometimes eight, and then has a couple other guys that might get a few minutes here and there. Northwestern has seven guys who have played every game, one guy who has played 18 and one who has played 15 and one who has played nine, so they basically play eight.

I'm sure there are others, if you really look.

Im talking about the entire season. Im not talking about teams losing players recently going into the NCAA Tournament. Or teams shortening the bench, which a lot of teams do, especially after non conference play. Im talking about the entire season.

Im talking about Capel having 9 guys for the entire season going back to November, or we will call it December 10th when the injured physically, mentally, and emotionally John Hugley left the team and we had 9 scholarship guys to make it work over a 3 month period. Most teams are never that low on scholarship players for an entire season like we just went through.

What difference does it make if a team plays, say, eight guys because that's all they have or they play eight guys because that's all that is good enough to play? Eight guys is eight guys. There have even been teams that have used a seven man rotation pretty regularly.

If that's all you play, that's all you play. What difference does it make why?

You guys know how difficult it is just to practice correctly with that few players? Capel said we barely worked on rebound drills and limiting contact the entire year for the fear of another guy going down. Its not even close to being normal.

It is very important to have quality guys on the bench to maximize practices throughout the year. You also need quality bench guys in case injuries occur.

For some teams it is. Other teams have gone the whole season basically playing seven or eight and have had no problem at all.

But if you are going to use the injury thing then you can't say this Pitt team only had nine. They had 12. They only got down to nine AFTER the injuries, not before. So you could say that Pitt did have quality bench guys in case injuries did occur. Because injuries did occur.
