Capel to Georgetown

For some teams it is. Other teams have gone the whole season basically playing seven or eight and have had no problem at all.

But if you are going to use the injury thing then you can't say this Pitt team only had nine. They had 12. They only got down to nine AFTER the injuries, not before. So you could say that Pitt did have quality bench guys in case injuries did occur. Because injuries did occur.
I am talking throughout the season and what I said applies to every team.

It isn’t as important at this time of the year because guys are getting rest in between games and watching video on their opponents. You can get by with a good 7 man rotation in March, but you are walking a fine line in case of foul trouble or an injury.

It is very important to have quality guys on the bench to maximize practices throughout the year. You also need quality bench guys in case injuries occur.

Its not even just that.

We spent the entire offseason building the roster around John. The entire game plan was surround Big John with shooters and give him space to go to work. We have a stud freshmen point / combo guard that was projected to start by almost everybody unanimously. And everyone had Jeffress at least as a depth piece this year. Bballinsider was the guy trying to tell everyone Jeffress would start. All 3 are done before December 10th.

Dior got suspended in October. He wasn't doing anything with the team until he got cleared in court. He was running with the starters in practice before that happened. Then we get a curveball a month before the season starts and have to get someone else ready.

Hugley got hurt, missed all that practice time, comes back, plays a few games, sits because he is injured, plays a few games again, then leaves the team. And who knows when the whole mental thing started because I sure don't.

Jeffress got hurt in the preseason and was out for the year.

This isnt easy. We lost 3 guys that were supposed to be 3 key players this year. And got left with 9 players and walkons. Mike Young from Virginia Tech has got enormous hype on this board. And his team finally got hit with injuries this year and they collapsed because of it. It isn't easy, especially so, in our case with only 9 available players. Its not like we are picking and choosing which 9 players to play out of 13. The 9 players we had is all we had left.

Mike Young's biggest problem is that his team just isn't very good.

Any coach trying to build a team around Hugley needs to their head examined. Capel is smarter than that.

Easy to say that.

His top recruit who was a top 50-75 nationally rated 4 star player that only played 7 games this year because of a broken toe.

His most valuable player and the guy that won them an ACC Tournament Title a year ago broke his arm in December. The team was 11-1 at that point and nationally ranked. That player still came back injured and played and will receive surgery after the season. That player scored 31 points against Duke in the ACC Tournament Finals.

Then Darius Maddox got hurt in January, another guard starter, and was lost for the season.

I mean sure, if you want to say that having 3 of your guards go down and claim the coach is crappy because of it or the team isnt good because of it, sure, go for it.

Proves you can't trust a "nice guy" who talks behind your back, if this is indeed true. If it is, it wouldn't be unexpected and we move on to get a better coach. If not, let him stay here for another year and see if he can improve on this year's results. If he can't, boot him and get someone better. He's not here for the long term anyhow. No matter what, I don't expect him to be here past next year.
Can you trust anyone who talks behind your back?

Depending on guys like Hunter Cattoor is why Virginia Tech isn't very good.

Yeah, I get he has a place in Hokie lore because he dropped 31 on Duke in the ACC Championship game, but that's not who he is. You can't win with guys like Cattoor. He might help you win big in SoCon ball, but not in the ACC.

VaTech got hot in the tourney, went to the Big Dance as an 11 seed and got bounced in the first round.

Darius Maddux... please.

If you're depending on top 50-75 guys as true freshman, you're in trouble. You aren't going to win with those guys.

Not very good? They have played in the last 2 NCAA Tournaments and won an ACC Championship. And you are telling me you can't win with guys like that?

The guy has made 248 three point baskets and is a career 42% 3 point shooter in the ACC. And he played with a broken arm this year.

Yeah. He's a shooter. A bit of a streakey one too. What else do you like about his game?

They were a 10 seed & 11 seed. They lost both first round games. On what planet is that considered good?

10x!!! Sheesh.

Bad rolls so far. I’m the worst roller in craps history. Going to Vegas for BetMGM poker open in June, which casinos you recommend? I’ve mostly stayed at Mandalay because of proximity to airport when I’ve been there
Liked Circa's property quite a bit. You can stay at any number of properties that are a two minute walk from Circa for less. The sportsbook is tremendous.

Getting back to coaching openings, are we in danger of missing the Ryan Odom train? Is he an option at GT or Georgetown?
