We are nearing the free agency period and with the a possible rule change coming in April which will allow players a free transfer, I figured we'd have a running transfer thread.

One thing I notice is a PG from Kansas. Formerly the 137th ranked player. I know nothing about him but we desperately need a PG. If Johnson stays, I'd move him to the 2.

They also said if they do vote it in it may not take effect until the next school yr.

The Mitchell twins who transferred from Maryland in December would be a huge get. Makhi was once a 5 star and ended being ranked 69 by 247. Makhel was ranked 171. Neither played a lot for the Terps and it was reported both were going to be suspended (not sure for what) which was part of the reason they transferred.

They're from DC so Pitt and ACC territory isnt far. Looks like they considered transferring to Gtown for the 2nd semester but didnt. Both would be eligible in December as freshmen and would provide much needed-size.

Lazy headcases. Not P6 players. Straight from Maryland staff.

You may be right about the lazy headcases thing, I don't know but you dont go from being a 5 star to not being a P6 player. I am sure Makhi would get major minutes at most P6s.
Eloy Vargas says hello, off the top of my head. There’s plenty of 5 stars that suck.

Also this is the 4th school in 4 years for the kids. Mom is a weirdo from what I can remember from meeting her on the UA circuit too.

Makhi was a *4 star* with offers from DePaul “they offer everyone” Georgetown and Georgia. Schools don’t match the ranking.

Very few actually "suck." There's guys that dont live up to expectations like Taylor and Birch but they are P6 players. Vargas would have played a lot for us.
We have 3 big guys freshmen and sophomores who are better prospects than Mitchell’s who aren’t lazy headcases. Unless TRE MITCHELL goes in the portal, avoid all things Mitchell.

Tahj Eaddy is basically a more skilled version of McGowens from Santa Clara. Grad transfer guard, can swing between both spots. Averaged 15 his true junior season. Originally from Connecticut. Has Iowa state, Wazzu and Seton Hall offers. He’s the type GT I’d be targeting.

You might want to be careful. He played at SEMO St as a frosh and had much worse stats in the OVC than Parker Stewart did as a soph and we all know that Parker is not an ACC-level player. Right?

Eaddy only averaged 9 this season and shot 33.3% from 3 and 40% from the field. Considering the WCC is weak, I would say McGowens is considerably better. But, I would definitely take this kid as a Sidy-like backup.

I’m looking for a backup. I’m not looking for someone who thinks he’s a starter. We’re replacing McGowens, who on a good team is a backup. You’re not gonna get a starter to come in with how Capel has praised Horton.

Pitt staff is definitely inquiring about him.
I would like if his 3% was higher, but that's good to hear u think he's good.

Yea, I agree with everything here.

I don't think Trey is a starter on a good team or even a mediocre one. He'd be a nice backup though and can improve to the point where he can be a starter. The RS year will do him good.

Lots of really good teams going after Tahj.
I just saw a list of teams.

So you bring in an Eaddy type who can play both spots for a total of 18-20 mins a game or play more if he earns it. You tell a swing guard they can earn whatever playing time they deserve and get a chance to play in the ACC. Any kid who believes in themselves will jump at that opportunity.

To answer @Drew1208 I don’t put much stock into shooting percentages from year to year in college. It’s a small sample size. I think if his usage rate is correct he could make 37ish percent of his 3’s for us, which is all I would care about.

Bingo! You have 80 minutes between the 1 and 2. PT is available.

I know I always say kids don't care about winning but that only applies to HS recruits. Grad transfers typically want to play for a team that has a realistic shot at the NCAA Tournament. More than anything. I think our late season collapse and last place finish take us out of the running for any of the higher-level grad transfers. May be stuck with the Monty Boykins or Eric Hamilton types.

Correct. I am guessing you saw a list from Weingarten who most of the time gets the lists from kids and exaggerates them. If Pitt wants to get involved I’m sure they’d have a shot.
We really need good experienced guard depth. That should be a priority

Listen, I’m not saying you’re wrong, but if you are correct why did we let Capel hire his brother and friends as his staff

It definitely could hurt our chances.

Grad transfer recruiting is a lot different. As for the staff though, I think Jason Capel is fine but out of the other 2, you need 1 strong recruiter. Capel should know by now he cant do it himself. He isnt enough. He has recruited "ok" but that isnt good enough.
