Let's first assume 32 schools create a new league. There are approximately 120 schools that play D1 football. The other 98 schools form their own Championship league. The other 98 schools never play the 32 schools in any sport. No basketball nothing. The SEC thinks it is the NFL. It ain't. Pennsylvania is the population size of Louisana, Alabama, and Mississippi. NY, NJ, and PA have more eyes on the TV excluding Florida than the entire SEC. Nobody in the NYC market will care about the Ala Kentucky game. The sooner the people in the SEC realize that without the collective their value tanks the smarter they will be. It is about the whole, not the parts.

When will you realize market size is meaningless. If it was the driving factor then Pitt would still be playing in the Big East and the ACC would be the highest paying conference. The reality is that the population of NY doesn’t matter when the vast majority don’t care about college football. The SEC and BIG Ten aren’t dominating college tv ratings because Syracuse has a team.
