Dwayne Haskins

I would’ve rather kept Dobbs and passed on Haskins. At this point I know Haskins will never be an even passable NFL QB. Dobbs probably won’t be either, but he knows the system for whatever that’s worth and is obviously an intelligent guy. The Steelers at least saw a glimmer of something in him or they wouldn’t have brought him back.
Well
Perhaps the stillers had a decent grade on him in his draft class -
And presume he’ll straighten out now that he was cut

And if he doesn’t - they cut him and walk away with minimal cap impact

The Redskins organization has been a joke for quite awhile and the leader of this dysfunction is Dan Snyder. This wouldn’t be the first botched situation they were involved in. Louis Riddick and others share these same thoughts. I think Haskins has the potential to be a mid level starting QB and definitely a #2 NFL QB with proper coaching and a good organization.
Yes. It’s definitely the organization’s fault.
👍

Of course there’s no risk. So yea, what the heck, why not.

But I expect little to nothing. This is the same guy who was running around taking selfies before a game (rare win) was over. So Wash had to scramble to get a QB on the field to take the last couple snaps. I’d expect more from a high school qb.

I think the counterpoint is that Rudolph also knows the system (assuming some consistency with the new OC). If Ben was younger maybe you keep both, but they need to look to the future. So why not keep one of them and take a shot on a lottery ticket? Haskins has a big arm and just two years ago was considered a first round talent. Dobbs ability to make plays with his legs is unique to their QBs. But he was on his second stint with the team, so if he had potential to start they should have seen it by now. Plus he’s a FA.

I like the signing but this is just kicking the tires on an available 1st former round QB. It cost the Steelers nothing. Look at the following things that need to happen for Haskins to even make the final roster:

1) Ben doesn't return
2) Ben returns and one of the following
2a) Steelers don't draft a QB, Haskins beats out Dobbs and/or Rudolph
2b) Steelers do draft a QB, Haskins beats out Dobbs and/or Rudolph and/or Rookie QB

He's a long shot to have a job here come August.

Right, if a QB they like falls, he’s probably gone. If the more likely scenario where that doesn’t happen he still probably sticks as a developmental guy behind Ben and Rudolph.

With this kind of contract the club could potentially try him at a couple positions. Guy is an athlete. Maybe he can't throw but maybe he can do other things. There is zero risk to this.

Okay, where are people getting the idea that Haskins is an athlete? Didn’t he run a 5+ 40 yard dash? lol.

Exactly- why are people against this?
Because he was the 15th pick in the 1st round and was released after less than 2 years by a team that needs a QB, because he had so many issues. Things must have been pretty bad.
I’m not saying it’s not worth the minimal gamble. But I can certainly understand why people would say that they want nothing to do with him.

Haskins has unreal skills, but he has to know if he gets cut from Pittsburgh his playing days are over. Ability is not the issue passion, focus and hard work are the issues. He has to grow up and get rid of the bad influences in his life and worse case will be a great backup, but if he does get properly focused he will see stardom. Riskless move by Steelers, hope he gets a real shot and makes the most out of it.
