Yea they make mistakes but they play hard and play as a team. So much better than attending the games the last 3-4 years. That was a waste of my time

Hopefully PITT fans will give this team time to develop.

What the hell does "give this team time" mean?

Do you want us not to say harsh things about the state of Pitt athletics while the team finds its footing?

Explain what you want from Pitt fans, snowflake.

Most Pitt fans will. Most Jamie Dixon fixaters won’t.

Most Pitt fans will follow the program and hope for the best while discusing the sad state of affairs our admins have created. It has very little to do with Dixon by now since Stallout already purged most of what remained from the Dixon era. Fixaters like you will perpetuate the false dichotomy, however.

Who does’nt know the status of Pitt Basketball, there is no purpose beating it to death. What really matters is that these guys are giving their all, which any real fan should respect. What also matter is they are getting better each game, which is all you can ask of a team this young. I was real impressed with second half defense adjustment. Really enjoyed the victory. Lots of guys who can score.

Honestly, you guys can have your “fun” watching pitt go 5-25.

I am not going to have any fun watching this total garbage stallings has put on the court.

I have to ask

How is this team playing more cohesive than the past 3-4 years?
13 assists on 21 made fgs

We’ve been rebounded in all three games- including a 19-5 offensive deficit on the offensive glass to a small and bad UCSB Team.

Defense has been pretty porous.

We turn the ball over a bunch and foul at a high rate.

What do you see as more cohesive after 3 games than after 3 games last season- because we are going to lose a lot.

Or is it just expectations are just that low?

You guys are really nasty to a bunch of 18 year olds working to get acclimated to division one basketball. The total rebuild should have occurred a few years ago.

Wow, get a life.

who is blaming the kids? NOBODY is blaming the players and everyone is blaming the coach and athletic department.

So wait, it is ok for you to rip on and criticize the previous players like young and artis? Were you one to constantly blast jrob?

Also, for the record, I’m not blasting the kids...I’m blasting the coach.

They are actually trying to be coached and make an effort. That's a step in right direction.

They look more collectively more athletic and better at shooting the ball than the last few teams. The defense looked better in the 2nd half. Rebounding needs addressed. Still, there's a long road ahead to be an NCAA team again.

They do not look like better shooters or more athletic than the group of Johnson, young, artis, and Johnson.

okay.
Guess I'm simply not seeing this collective athleticism.
Smaller sample size- but shooting percentages are pretty much inline (actually a bit down) over the full course of the past 3-4 seasons).

More speaking to a belief that expectations are that low now...so, any competent play looks like improvement.

We have some pieces- my concern is if the coaching is going to give us a fighting chance... especially as we've clearly abandoned any hope of offensive rebounding.

Likewise, with our defensive struggles- I'm not seeing a great deal of athleticism.

Sure, I think the scheme is a problem...but, we simply aren't keeping ahead of dribble drives.

Spare us the "what about the children" routine. The angst isn't personal toward the players. It's a broader discussion about Pitt's commitment to athletics. If that topic is too real for you, then use the ignore button, or then stop posting crap that misrepresents or deflects from the issue.

..."give this team time to develop"

Again, what do you want from folks? I've got oodles of time to sit around and wait for improvement. I certainly have no control over the team. When you say I'm not giving them time, what the actual f*** is your recommendation?

spotted you last night...one of the few at the game who wasn't dressed as an empty seat!

Pitt athletics is bottom of the barrel, D-1 bottom feeder scum, way below many, many, many non-P5 schools, a national embarrassment, only deserving of jokes and derision and ridicule.

But, at the same time, I've watched the 1st three basketball games and it has been FUN, and some of these new guys actually do have potential, sure it will suck more when we lose to Duke or UNC 145-33, but as of now it has been kind of refreshing, those guys where actually excited last night, beating UCSB! Go Pitt!

Most Pitt fans will. Most Jamie Dixon fixaters won’t.
Pitt was very good to Dixon.

He quit on Pitt and this program. He could have stayed and fought through the problems but decided to cut and run because things were tough or he had a bug up his arse about moving to the ACC, the new AD whatever.
I liked him but he dumped on Pitt no less than Howland.

That isn’t anything to cheer about.

Now after a few years, I hate the ACC and miss the BE. Money, money, money! Who cares! We where a better fit in the BE- in football and basketball, I just watch on TV, I'm not their accountant, it was more fun being poorer and more in contention on the field in both sports.

What Big East?

Yeah, he's a snowflake because he wants people to get behind the team instead of constantly tearing down the team and coach. You can be critical without having an agenda.

The fact that his name is Stallings and not Stallout tells us everything we need to know about your agenda.

No, he's a snowflake because he wants to silence uncomfortable discussion.

And I'm curious -- what would you say is my agenda? I definitely have one, but it doesn't seem to have registered with you.

Let's see, the PITT athletic department was realizing about $2-3 million a year from the Big East. And now receives about $25m a year from the ACC.

I need to remember not to hire some of you as my financial adviser.

So now we suck at sports, we're bottom feeders, are you enjoying the potential 5-25 season in basketball, is that money benefiting YOU in any way? Is it fun being Vanderbilt, getting the big money in the big league?

I have no idea what this even means, but you sound like one miserable yinzer. I only attack jackwagons like you.

This kinda stuff needs to end as well.
I'd love for it to end and for the incessant, black cloud posters to be shown the door. Sadly, they make up 50% of the posts on here and the good posters won't put them on ignore. Criticism is one thing, there's lots to go around. Either support the young guys or find something better to do that makes you happy and come back when we're hopefully a top 25 program again.

I want to read about Pitt hoops on here and the anti-Stallings stuff every other post makes it impossible.

Stop with the holier than thou crap. We had 50% of the board blasting Jamie even when he was getting number one seeds. 75% of the board wanted him to move on after a 9-9 ACC year and an NCAA appearance. The program was called garbage, awful, and a dumpster fire.

Now the program is truly awful, and the criticisms and complaints are 100% valid.

Whether you wanted Jamie gone or not is immaterial at this point...stallings is a disaster, and stating that is simply the truth. This turd can’t be polished, and it is all on him.

Pitt isn't going sustain a top 25 program for any length of time with the admin's current apoach to athletics management. What's not clear about that?

Acknowledge that you follow Pitt for the joy it gives you similar to supporting a charity or volunteering with a special needs group.

Otherwise your Pitt fandom doesn't reconcile with reality and posters will feel the need to continue pointing this out to you.

I somewhat disagree here. The contract they gave stallings is more than good enough to attract a good, up and coming coach.

The problem wasn’t the money, it was making a horrendous hire.

Totally agree... money is not the problem. There was plenty of it to line the pockets of all schools and coaches involved.

The problem is Pitt's inept decision making process that has produced wildly destructive turnover. All the appropriate parties are tuned out, and too many middling dummies have their fingers in the pie. And in that scenario, you get the opportunitists of the world like Barnes using Pitt like an 18-month ATM for himself and buddies.

Don't get me started on the needless self-sanctioning and the marijuana suspensions. Who are we, the f'n puritans of Plymouth Rock?? This is D1, these kids aren't here for academics. Don't be a disengenous prick.

The institution writ large has ZERO capacity for or commitment to athletic success.

FireballZ and others are lecturing us to be positive about the drapery when the whole damn house is in flames and the fire department is on strike.

It's a bunch of feel-good stupidity. Have fun at the games and writing your checks, but dont talk to me about developing a winning program. Get real.

I could not agree more with the above post.

Pitt will always be a bottom feeder in both sports. That's the new reality.

And it doesn't have to be that way - it's a choice.

Second half was encouraging last night. Still have plenty of work ahead. I appreciate the grit of JWF over the final four minutes or so - he seemed to answer the bell with a couple big boards and a basket. I don't like having low expectations, but I am not willing to stop cheering for Pitt. I don't know that this program has hit rock bottom (losing to Montana is really bad), but when you reach that point at least you can rebuild on something solid (e.g. Grad transfers that don't pan out, recruits that don't stick). H2P on a win, and good for those young men to figure out how to win together.
