Iowa State last year 2-22, 0-18 in conference….

Capel should have a new T-shirt made for himself. It should say: IT'S NOT MY FAULT! IT WAS COVID (or fill in the blank each week). Next week it could be: IT WAS THE WEATHER.

It does & it's a helluva turnaround.

This kind of turnaround is going to be the exception rather than the rule though. The Cyclones went 7-11 in the Big 12 and got bounced hard in the first round of the Big 12 tourney. They have won 2 close games and had some very good luck in the NCAA tourney. (LSU in disarray and Wisky losing their PG)

While it's a great turnaround, this team isn't really that good and it remains to be seen what kind of program he will have there long term.

Come on now, no need to piss on ISU’s parade.

If you aren’t a blue blood, then making the Sweet 16 is a good accomplishment. It doesn’t matter the circumstances.

All I know is that ISU is a hell of a lot better program right now than Pitt. These recruits are going to Ames, Iowa, a town of 59,000 people. What could they possibly see in Ames, Iowa other than a bunch of corn fed women? With a competent head coach and staff, there is no excuse for not getting the recruits to come to Pitt and have them develop into a team that can get to the NCAAT. We haven't felt that in 6 years now, and year 7 of incompetence is coming up.

Not good is relative. Compared to their last 2 years, it’s stellar.

Well since you brought it up, Ames is a very nice Midwestern college town, and ISU has a nice campus and a lot of really hot women, far more so than Pitt does. But none of these players are choosing their transfer destinations based on any of that, so why even interject it into the discussion?

There’s not much up there, but they do have one heckuva fanbase. We usually go to a few Big XII Tournament games every year and they always have largest contingency, even outnumbering Kansas. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had a strong booster organization to help the program.

No argument there.

They were still 7-11 and finished 7th in a 10 team league. The Cyclones really were at the mercy of the selection committee.

Give Otzelberger his props, but I definitely think the jury is still out on how he does there long term.

I've been to Ames more than a few times in the past year. I go there and in that vicinity about 5 or 6 times a year on business. It's not much to write home about compared to Pittsburgh. They have a good fanbase, but that's about it. It's a small version of Creepy Valley. And players do sometimes like to know what type of city environment they will be calling home. Maybe some like a cow pasture and not much else. It's nothing close to what you described. But to each his or her own, I guess.
