Were do I start? I thought this was a great hire when he came here. He has been here 3 years and 2 games. I really believed this year we would finally see a winning season and compete with the best in the ACC. His best year was with Canada as OC. When he left I kind of thought they would stay with some kind of offense that resembled what Canada started and playing most of Narduzzis' recruited players. Instead he has an offense that can't do much of anything. On defense which is suppose to be his specialty, is sub par at best and special teams is terrible. I hope he surprises me and makes me eat my words but as far as I'm concerned he has been below average at best. I sang praise for him the last couple of years because of the big upsets. But during those years he lost a lot of games that we should not have lost. If he continues to flop I don't think he will be are coach very much longer. His recruiting hasn't been great either. I sure hope that he gets this team together because I saw them quit on him last week. His assistant coaches aren't developing anyone either. Will Pitt recover and be successful this year, and if not How long do they stick with the coaches?
In theory I may agree and in practice you're probably right. But how long should a coach have to actual win a division? It's not even winning a conference, which should be the ultimate goal for non-national title contenders.
Yes the ultimate goal and eventually I have no issue cutting ties with a coach who never does better than 7 or 8 wins. But Pitt needs to be patient as long as the program isn't clearly going backwards( multiple losing seasons) PN might not be the answer but the extension makes it tough to move on for a couple years. Only way is if things are falling apart, to me that means anything 3-9 or worse- move on right away. Otherwise he gets at least one more season.
OK I was way off on my dates, apologies.
That was Franklin's buyout IE what he has to pay if he leaves. PSU would still have to pay him whatever the contract terms are, example if he has 4 years at 20 million they would have to pay him 5 million for the next 4 years. Now there might be a agreed upon amount on that end but typically you owe the coach the contract. I am pretty sure, at least in the NFL, that if the coach gets another job afterwards the team can subtract his current salary.I'm not sure why there is an assumption that the extension made the buyout go up. That's not always the case. Sometime AD's trade a raise and some time to lower the buyout. Franklin's last extension lowered his buyout to $2 million.
