Nightly Sports Call is a trainwreck. Wow!

The venerable Richie Walsh offered his expertise on how to fix college football. Between the callers listening to their TVs, Richie proposes playing the bowl games on the first week of the season. Also said the teams should play everyone in their conference.

The callers aren't any better. The PSU fans that sound like that freak in the Dirty Harry movie explaining why PSU going to the playoffs was a no brainer. And, to top it off, someone suggesting that the sportswriters should vote for who goes to the playoffs. Its not like that was happening for forever.

It would have been a better show if it was a bunch of crank callers.

He'd be right on point number two, but that doesn't work with 12 game schedules and 14 team conferences.

As for the bowls in week one, well, we kind of already have that. How many marquee week one matchups end up being at neutral sites anyways?

I can't believe that show hadn't been hijacked by prank callers already. The 2 masters of prank calls are Richard and Sal from the Stern show. They used to call a show called Tradio and endlessly harassed those poor people

Yeah like sportswriters aren't the most clueless donks in the world. They only know the last thing they saw, if Alabama lost next week they'd have the PSU/Wisconsin winner in ahead of them.

I've never seen or heard of a sportswriter that had any knowledge whatsoever on which teams were better than others.

W.O.T! WASTE OF TIME, LAIR HAS BETTER EXPERTS AND I AM NOT ONE OF THEM!

They should use the vegas rankings to determine the top 4. Vegas is right more than any sports writers or committee(they are strongly influenced by rankings)
Really the conferences should split into 8 regional, 8 team conferences. Then the champ in each conference plays in the playoff's. Won't happen but everyone could play everyone in conference. Then the team with the best record gets in.
Pitt's conference would be
Pitt
BC
SU
PSU
RU
MD
WV
ND
If the P5 would break away from other schools they could break conferences down like this and then get one huge TV contract like the NFL. Then split the money.

horrible format, extremely outdated. A tv show that is basically a "call in talk show." Really? It worked for stan and guy in early 90's but times have changed.. Time to get some content and entertain us or move it to radio..

A good call is a rarity. Most are either listening to the television or cranking them. Collier looks like he would rather get a root canal. Richie freaking out over crank callers; inviting them.

I don't know why I watch it. Maybe I like watching train wrecks or a sucker for punishment. Maybe I should take up a hobby.

Would have to go to 9 per conference for 4 home/away plus 2 home/away OOC.

Northeast - Pitt, BC, Syracuse, VT, Miami, Notre Dame, WVU, Penn State, Rutgers

Atlantic - Maryland, Virginia, UNC, Duke, Wake, Duke, Clemson, GT, FSU

Southeast - Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, Miss State

Southwest - Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, OK State, Houston, Baylor, Texas Tech

Big Midwest - tOSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue, Temple, Cincinnati

Great Plains - Nebraska, Louisville, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri

Northwest - Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, Colorado, Colorado State, Utah, BYU, Boise State

Pacific - USC, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, Texas, TCU, Cal, Stanford, San Diego State

That would be pretty balanced as of right now. Every conference except the Southeast would have an AP top ten team. Every conference would have at least two AP top 25 teams, two conferences would have as many as four AP top 25 teams.

Agree with you and MVK, though like you said it will never happen.

Whoa. Those callers, and this is specific to THAT show, are absolutely the epitome of entertainment. I am proud of them for actually figuring out how to dial a phone successfully.

You missed Kentucky in the Southeast.

Norm Van Brocklin, Hall of Fame QB and former NFL coach, once offered that if he ever needed a brain transplant he would ask for a sportswriter's brain. So he'd be sure it had not been used much.
