The youngsters on the board may not be familiar with him, but Leon Russell was a music icon in the 1970's. While he had hits of his own, he was better known for songs that became super-hits for other performers.

He was also a well-known "session" performer, heading-up Joe Cocker's band, playing on The Beach Boys iconic "Pet Sounds" album, and he was also part of the band that played in Phil Spector's famous "Wall of Sound" recordings. His total contributions to popular music are too numerous to list here.

He was inducted into the Rock 'Roll HOF in 2011.

Great musician. Funny line from a girl I was dating back in the 70's. She said she liked Russell because you could sing along with him and sound better than he did.

Yeah...she's probably right. But for some reason, "Lady Blue" remains one of my all-time favorite songs. He's probably the only singer who could perform that song and do it justice - him, or Willie Nelson.
