OT: Any Good Movies/New TV Shows?

The Americans is the show that everyone needs to be watching. I think you can watch it on Prime. Best final season of any show I've watched.

Watched it episode by episode every week it was on. Character development was awesome.

I loved the last season as well, but didn’t like the ending. Just felt there was more that needed to be said.

Five episodes deep into the 1st season of Ozark. I am enjoying it for the most part, but am a little disappointed after the buildup people gave it. Solid B- imo.

How did I forget Narcos from the list? 3 seasons, with the 3rd season being the best.

And if you like comedy, watch Bumping Mics with Jeff Ross and Dave Attell. Hilarious.

Actually 4 seasons with Narcos Mexico being the last.

My opinion differs though, I thought the first two about Pablo Escobar were the best. Probably because I thought the guy playing Escobar did a good job.

Ah yeah...I always think there are 3...Escobar and Medellin cartel, then the Cali cartel then Mexico.

Maybe because I knew Pablo got killed so I knew how it ended, that it ruined it for me. I liked seasons 3 and 4 better as a result.

Season three was supposed to dig into the father’s past and his dirty dealings in drugs with Roy Gilbert to help make the Inn so successful. Season three had to be completely rewritten and filmed quickly after a fallout between Netflix and Sony.
Interesting info, did not know that. But the show should have stopped where it was originally intended. IMHO

Another good series on Netflix is Safe starring the guy from Dexter, Michael C Hall, who speaks British in it.

Friends From College was a Michael Keyny sitcom on Netflix. Fred Savage and that Nitter Keegan Michael Key from Key & Peele are in it

I hope not hijacking, but a somewhat related question to the OT. Anyone have the new Amazon Firestick, and do you like? Is the content (whether if you have Prime or not have Prime) worthwhile? Tech work well with good Wifi (which I have)? The price seems pretty good (currently can get from Target for 34 bucks). Online reviews of these things seem to vary widely, hard to really tell. Thanks in advance...

The new 4K Firestick with an Ethernet adapter is the way to go.

Netflix junkie here...

- Bodyguard - Rob Stark of Game of Thrones is the main actor and won Golden Globe best actor for this show

- Black Mirror - modern day high tech version of Twilight Zone

- Mindhunter - Filmed in Pgh

- Ozark - Jason Bateman stars as a money launderer for the mob

- The Punisher - Ex military guy seeks revenge on the CIA ops who murdered his family

- Sex Education - Surprisingly funny new teen show with Scully from X Files as the sexy smart mom

- Gomorrah - Italian mobster series based in Naples

- Bad Blood - Mobster series based in Montreal

- Dark - German series on time travel dealing with kids going missing near a nuclear plant

- The Rain - Danish series on a rain carrying virus that brings on the apocalypse

- Bloodline - Dramatic thriller about a family that has secrets and murder is involved

- Stranger Things - ET meets 8 MM - aliens and young teens - seems like Steven Spielberg created it

You - thriller about a stalker boyfriend

You forgot Big Mouth....admit it, you love that show..

A friend told me that a Firestick allows you to download any app on the web. Even ones that offer everything under the sun that one would typically pay to watch.

I didn’t think there was much of a market for things like fire stick anymore because of the proliferation of smart televisions. My main tv has Netflix, Prime, Hulu, You Tube and about a dozen other streaming services built-in. I don’t subscribe to all of them, but they are there. What is the advantage, if any, of a fire stick or similar Roku or Google device?

Never heard of it

Just started watching Russian Doll...pretty funny

Very good show if you are willing to totally suspend reality, which is never a problem for me. And Jason Bateman is unexpectedly terrific.

If you like westerns and haven’t seen it, “Longmire” on Netflix is, along with “Justified,” the best series I have seen in a long, long time. It ran six seasons, only the final two of which were exclusively on Netflix, but I believe all six are available. It’s about Walt Longmire, a Marshal in modern day Wyoming. Robert Walker, an Australian plays Walter Longmire with an impeccable Western accent and Lou Diamond Phillips plays Henry Standing Bear, a Cheyenne Indian who has been his best friend since grade school.
The wife and I both loved Longmire.

I was thinking the same. How did Ja Rule and Billy MacFarland or whatever his name was escape prison time? it's fraud, no?

Billy McFarland was sentenced to six years in prison for fraud. I’m not sure if he is serving his sentence or still out on bail while the case is on appeal. Either way, he has been promoting some other con games since Fyre.

Good news for “Shetland” fans: Ann Cleeves just published her 8th novel about Detective Jimmy Perez fighting crime in the Shetland Islands. The series is based on her books, so that should mean at least two more seasons. They apparently just finished shooting the season based on her 7th Shetland novel.

She also is the creator of the Vera Stanhope detective novels if anyone has seen “Vera” on Prime. Prime charges for seasons 1,2,5 and 6. But seasons 3,4,7 and 8 are free with Prime.

I just finished the first season of “No Offence” on Prime. It was created and is written by Paul Abbott, who also created and wrote the British version of “Shameless” upon which the American version is based.

Just imagine a police station as dysfunctional as the household in “Shameless.”

It is mainly a police crime drama with very dark comedic undertones. I almost turned off the first episode, but by the middle of episode 2, I was hooked. There is one major crime which they focus on for the entire season, but there also usually is another crime uncovered at the beginning of an episode which gets solved by the end of that episode.

Paul Abbott’s real life was the basis for “Shameless” and that he overcame his childhood to become a successful television writer with homes in London, France, New York and Los Angeles is remarkable. He was the 7th of 8 children, born in the working class town of Burnley, north of Manchester. His mother held down 3 jobs to support the family while his father drank. She left the family when he was 9. Ran away with another man. The father didn’t apply for social benefits because he was worried social services would take the kids away. The kids tried to make money to stay together. When Abbott was 13, he was raped by a man. He dropped out of school but developed an interest in writing. And the rest is history.

If you aren’t intrigued enough to continue watching after the first episode, you probably aren’t going to like the show. It’s definitely not a Barnie Miller ha ha cop show.

Good OT, Mike.
At 100+ replies, I'm stunned that no one has mentioned the very new, and VERY VERY good, "Widow". Amazon. Kate Beckinsale. It just became available end of February. 8 episodes... and I assume it is a one-season only series. The Missus and I are thru 6. She loves it.

It’s pretty good. But it got five stars for Kate Beckinsale even without a plot.
