OT:Buccos

Yeah this is going to be another rough weekend, planning to go to the game tomorrow and fully expecting another L. Baltimore is a good team who seem to be firmly ahead of the Pirates in their development/resurgence. They won 83 games last year after a putrid couple of seasons and had the similar April but without the Hindenburg-like May collapse we’re witnessing by our Buccos.

What sucks is that while they’ve gotten their doors blown off in most of their recent L’s, these last 2 games have been winnable.

Holderman is a better option in the eighth, every time. Thought that was his role on this team??

Used to be Crowe, but he'd been totally ineffective and is now injured.
Crowe was a trade piece of "had promise, lets see if a change in scenery jump starts that promise" It hasn't. Underwood Jr. should not even have been here this season.

for the last two years whenever I see underwood go in the game I realize we have just given up and trying to save our arms for coming games. Even when we are tied or just down one feels like we give up and let him stay in until he gets the outs regardless of how many runs he gives up.

Yep…I nicknamed Underwood..”The Gas Can” all he does is blow up close games.

I haven’t followed much in the last 10 years so I didn’t even know what to make of the start. Other than maybe a handful +/- a cpl guys I didn’t even know who they were. I was hoping this was another moneyball type of squad. But it looks like they may have woken up and and have seen the logo on their chest. Hope not but sheesh have they been bad again.

It's moneyball, just the nickel and dime variety.

what irks me the most right now, is how undisciplined the batters are at the plate. some of the balls the are swinging at are just unbelievable. not doing that when they were winning. and they are getting paid this kind of money!!!!!!!

Keller going today. If he can't stop the streak, going to be a long month!
He did stop the streak against Colorado, hopefully he can stop the new streak that’s started. So far so good and starting pitching hasn’t really been too much of an issue in this series (though Oviedo looked iffy, he got outs). Nice they got a run but can they score more than 1-3 for once?

Keller looks dominating today. 4-0, and he's striking everyone out so far into the 7th inning.

They need 2 or 3 of their other young guns to develop like him.
Then we'll have something really special here.
Yeah, teams like the Pirates aren't going out and getting All Star pitchers. Too costly. So they have to develop within, either drafting them like Keller or trading for them when they are really young like Ovieto. Hoping Priester starts a similar path but let's face it, Keller's first couple of years were not good. So hoping to catch lightening in a bottle with Chandler or Solemato.

Would you look to give Keller a long term deal. Say 5 at 55
Not sure where he is in his contract/year status, but he's certainly worth it.
The thing about Keller, he's commanding 5 pitches in his starts, and seems to have an effortless delivery.
He looks like the kind of pitcher who can keep this going for a lot of years.

I think he is worth what ever they can get him for, Do you think he is a actual one or a better two?

Priester seems to be picking it up a bit lately in AAA. Ovieto and Contreras look to be talented and they are so young but are getting ML hitters out.
Those 3 plus Keller, then pick up a FA 5th starter, and you have a nice rotation.

Because he didn't have a pitch that could get out left handers. You can't win when lefties hit you at .345/.419/.477 like they did to Keller in 2021. Last year when they took him out of the rotation in May he started throwing a sinker. For the whole season lefties hit .276/.359/.390 against him. I don't have the monthly splits, but that's a big improvement and if you only looked at the last four months of the season it would be even bigger.

This year lefties are hitting .202/.265/.340 against him. If he even comes close to keeping that up he'll be a very, very good pitcher.

The real shame is that there have been people saying for years that he needed a pitch to get left handers out with (even when he was back in the minors and looking pretty good), and it took all those years for someone working for the Pirates to notice.

In a heartbeat. 5 at $60-65 million.
It's a great idea but, if he keeps this up he would never sign that deal. He would wait and grab the huge money that one of the big teams would give him. He won't get Gerrit Cole type money, but someone would probably give him 7 years at 15+ million per.

Anemic again . I can see why Marcano argues the third strike but my goodness you have to know that will be called strike 3 . Swing at the s.o.b.
Frustrating ....
We'll get em tomorrow ..

Jay Bell . In the house !
Visiting in the announcer's booth right now ..
If anyone cares ... 😁
Solid ss for our Bucs ...

Wow. Since Reynolds signed the nice contract he has turned into a complete turd. Hits into double plays regularly and tonight drops a fly ball. He just looks awful.
