OT: Hockey starts tonight!!! Pens at Tampa. Thoughts??

ESPN sucks. Everything they do is about them. It’s not the NHL tonight with the defending champs, it’s about ESPN saving hockey. The announcer sucks by the way. He can do college football but not hockey.
I’m glad it’s back on ESPN because of the cross-promotional benefits that are good for the league’s visibility. My only complaint about the coverage is how bad Barry Melrose is. He is a mere prop at this point for all of the nostalgic fans. Liking Mess and Chelios and can’t wait to see Gretzky tomorrow night.

You have a very good point regarding cross-promotion. How many times did NBC promote the NHL on Sunday Night Football, let alone bring on the face of the league for an interview? I think ESPN has done an excellent job with the package so far.

No offense but if true we have reached the point of the surreal ...
Sorry, I should’ve been more specific. In my opinion, they’ve done an excellent job promoting the league so far. The production and execution, on the other hand, is a work-in-progress.

I know it's already been stated but my goodness , I haven't heard a play by play man this bad since "we got it , now they got it" from the Gunner himself . God rest his soul ...

Is pulling goalie down 3-0 with 6 to go something new? Then down 3-1 with 5 to go?
I’ve noticed coaches have been pulling them earlier and earlier the past few seasons. Don’t think I can recall it happening before the six minute mark, though.

Really only makes sense to pull the goalie down by like 2 goals at the most and with like 2.5 minutes left or less.
This was just looney.

It's really tough to score 6 and not have anyone with more than 1 point. And Kap was one of the guys without a point and he might have been our best player?

I wonder if he wasn't pulling the G to trash this game to send a message to his players. I remember Sullivan doing something similar against Chi in our 3-peat season when we got off to that awful start.

Oh, they will eventually have high picks again (Letang was a 3rd rounder) but the question is, and the answer is most likely not, will guys of that talent be there. Remember, if there is one thing I have said, I have said it ad nauseum, "not all 1st rd picks are created equal". This applies to 5 star recruits. Some years you have superstars, some years you have good players. An occasional year, you have a transcendent player.
The outrageous thing about the Pans is they are multiple lotto winners, they not only had the 1st pick when Mario and Sid came out, they had the 2nd pick when Malkin came out after Ovie, and then hockey was on strike that year so they where still the worst team when it was time for the Sid lottery. :) Talk about some luck.

I liked the suspended camera idea that they took from football and the ability to better see the play developing once i got use to it. Especially if you've ever played or coached or are a real student of the game you can better anticipate the next pass/move in the bigger picture.
And if you don't fall into any of those groups and are just a casual fan it might help to learn a little.

Texting back and forth with a buddy who now coaches in the same District i did almost 40 years ago and SHAHA also i said you can tell people are playing for ice time once Crosby,Malkin,Guentzel,Aston-Reese get back.
We were noticeably faster and every check it seemed was getting finished.
Great team effort and that scoring breakdown just another example.
