OT: "Pull Up A Chair..."

Well, they have to try something. Pittsburgh's population declined again.

I doubt that video will attract anyone.
It was pointless.

Guess I didn’t “get it”
Count me as one in this category.

Edit to add: Unless one is from there, there's no way anyone would know why anyone would put a chair in a parking spot.

The chair thing is done pretty much any place that gets a lot of snow. It’s not unique to Pittsburgh.

Although, I do think Pittsburgh is the only place that people seem to embrace it (for lack of a better word) everywhere else you’re just being a d^ck if you do it

That may be true, but I've never been to another region that did it, or even heard of it.

I don’t know if an ad like this in and of itself is going to make much of an impact on anything. However, it beats sitting on your hands and doing nothing, right?

They did a nice job with that video. They need to do a helluva lot more, but that’s a nice first step.

As for the shot of the biracial, gay couple, what kind of a LUNATIC would have a problem with that?

Also, what on earth does that have to do with sanctuary cities?

The video is simply saying that everyone is welcome in Pittsburgh regardless of your age, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, etc.

How could that possibly be controversial in anyone’s mind?

If your take away from that is cynicism then the video is not the problem.

I suppose it is a sign of progress that nobody has mentioned that the gay couple was biracial? Nobody is calling that “an unnatural sin against humanity” anymore — as used to happen just a decade or so ago — so there’s that. We have grown at least a little bit. In another generation, no one will even blink at the fact that they were gay either.

I think the video was well done. Pittsburgh has always been culturally diverse. No idea why anyone who lives here would rail against it.

Because they’ve been force-fed a steady diet of bullshit for decades from Fox News, that’s why. The willfully propagandized.

Everyone else is lying.

Also, everyone who doesn’t agree with them is a terrible person with horrible motives trying to ruin the country or the church or the neighborhood or whatever.

I’m related to dozens of them. It’s completely confounding because they are otherwise wonderful people who would give anyone the shirt off their backs at the drop of a hat. However, when it comes to gays or trans or Muslims or minorities, that all goes straight out the window and they start parroting all kinds of crazy bullshit that runs completely counter to who they actually are and how they live their lives in every other facet.

What can you do? The alarming power of propaganda, right?

Any attempt to be kind and/or accepting of people who look and/or behave differently than you or I do — or who dares to have a different perspective on anything — is seen as an act of weakness or worse, political correctness run amok.

It’s completely bananas.

They like to pretend that it’s somehow noble or okay to act like a dick to “the others.” Nope, it’s just being a dick and it runs exactly counter to common decency and basically every single thing I learned about being a Christian going up.

Fortunately, Mike Pence doesn’t read this board.

Geez! Maybe you should switch to decaf.
I hope nobody says anything negative about Kris Letang now, or your head may explode.

I wonder if one of the couple was but a lad of only 11 years of age, could the good Doctor could have contained himself? Or would he discover "an unnatural sin against humanity”?

People are too busy hating and blaming others to do anything. Conservatives blame liberals, liberals blame conservatives and what is really funny is one actually believes they are better than the other. Both have good and bad ideas, neither is perfect and when each can get it through their thick heads, it will be a better place. Both sides think they are perfect and breed hate for the other, and that is why nothing gets done. You can't agree to disagree anymore, someone always HAS to be right and no one can ever admit being wrong. It is a world of little children.

America has always been a land of hatred for one group or another at some point in time. Native Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, Muslims, and the list goes on and on. I guess it depends on who our government has the military fighting at the time. I was taught that everyone has something to contribute, but I do not understand why you are called a liberal for thinking that.

Yes, now it’s white males. Oh well, I guess it’s our turn.

Incredible hatred and prejudice directed towards the influx or European immigrants in mid/late 19th century as well so technically this is our second go around but who’s counting.

Are you saying America is more hateful than other nations? Every nation has been a land of hatred.

I never said that. I agree that every nation has been a land of hatred. For some reason I thought we as Americans are suppose to be better than that. I know, it is a crazy notion.
I think people hate what they don't understand. Some try to understand, but some don't even want to and those who don't want to are the ones who cause the problems.

you think the 400 million americans (legal ones of course) are above feelings of prejudice and ill will towards others? Why? you over estimate us.. Americans are better but not perfect..

Hate has become a meaningless word. Sometimes it seems as though disagreement and criticism is called hate simply to prevent it from being heard. Also, one can condemn a person's behavior without hating the person. I agree that ignorance can lead to hatred but it's not the major cause. Magua hated the English and he understood them very well.

I'm perfect just ask me ...
The whole chair thing got me thinking of an old joke... does the mayor push a chair or push a stool...
Not that there is anything wrong with it...

Big difference between feelings and actions. We all feel ways we shouldn't feel at certain times, but actions can be devastating. Your last sentence tells it all. People or groups of people think they are better or more important than others. The reality is no one will escape death and most won't even make a contribution for future generations. So no one is more important than anyone else. Everyone wants the same thing, to live their lives without someone else endangering it or trying to keep them down. There is plenty of room on this planet for everyone so who the hell is someone to tell another person they can't live theirs? There is a saying that I really like, "If you are more fortunate than others, build a longer table, not a higher fence." But people are so narrow minded and selfish, they have to always try to prevent others from living.

Who is telling anyone that they can’t live their life’s? Come on man, what are you talking about?

We have our own issues, homeless, drug addicts, veterans with mental issues. Let’s feed our own family first before inviting the neighbors over for dinner.

So do something about it. Volunteer to help. Donate money. At one point in my life I was all three of the things you listed, but someone helped me and I got my life together. Because of that I will help anyone any way I can and I would never try to prevent someone from bettering their life and I don't care where they are from. Have you ever been homeless? I lost both of my parents as a child and spent many years without a home. I also served in the army in the 1990s, was injured and when I was discharged I was addicted to painkillers and suffered from depression, but someone helped me get help.
"Let's take care of our own?" It sounds like you are wanting to keep people from living their lives.

taking care of your own house has nothing to do with prohibiting others to live their lives. cant even understand the connection you are trying to make..

sounds like you have your mind made up and instead of listening, you are waiting to talk. lets save ourselves the time and wish each other a good weekend and move on.. you sound like a good person and I have incredible respect for anyone that has served in our military so my appreciation, admiration and thanks is offered to you for your services.. I mean that 100%..

Really? I would have thought there is SO much more understanding today, than anytime in the past.

If, in fact that's true is it because reporting is more likely to happen today?

More accurate reporting? Better news coverage?

More people have come out, and are blatant about their difference?

I know people who, 30 years ago were, I guess antagonistic is the word that comes to mind, and today are pretty meh towards that crowd.

Interesting.
