Yup. It is the entire coaching staff. Would guys like Malkin and Letang listen to a new voice? Who knows? However they’re certainty not listening to Charlie Brown’s mother. I mean Mike Sullivan.
Think I saw on Twitter, 5 losses in regulation this year when leading after two periods, 9 in the last two seasons. Likely several more OT losses when leading after two.How many leads has this team blown in the 3rd period over the past few years? That is not a result of "bad goaltending" as yinzers like to blame, but a result of a coach and a team not playing smart hockey with the lead.
I remember years where the Pens were like 28-1-1 with a lead after 2 periods.Think I saw on Twitter, 5 losses in regulation this year when leading after two periods, 9 in the last two seasons. Likely several more OT losses when leading after two.
I can only hope Sully would expire. That's the only way this team would get rid of him. Of course I'm kidding, I don't want him to die, I just want him the hell out of town. I've been begging for the last 4 years for him to be canned. This team had a chance to win a cup or two more the past 5 years, but, they stuck with Sully and the team bottomed out.In reality.......................the WORST thing that could have happened to the Pens if they went 3-1 or similar on this road trip. This is what happened last year. They went 5-1 into the trade deadline, and instead of moving parts and getting younger assets/picks, they made the Mikael Granlund trade. They went 8-14 down the stretch and finished out of the playoffs.
This year, nope. So Kyle Dubas can approach this trade deadline with clear eyes, full heart. Can't lose?
To me everyone has a price. I listen. Obviously they aren't going to trade Sid, but others, even if they only get a bunch of draft picks, that is capital this offseason Dubas can turn around into players.
One other thing..................the coach has expired. They need to bring in someone that will value physicality. I am not talking Fred Shero gooning it up til the cows come in, but this team has no one and hasn't to stand up to anyone. Has no one to run around in a shift and hit anything that moves that changes momentum.
It is time. It was time in 2020. It is 2024. So it is overdue......and now with accruing interest.
That is because Sullivan blows. He plays favorites and decides players don't fit in before giving them a chance.Alex Nylander couldn't get a cup of coffee with the Pens, hat trick for Columbus last night
Well they suck because they suck and haven't developed young talent. And Sullivan has refused to change. And the players themselves refuse to change. This isn't hard. Tocchet should have been named coach a couple seasons ago.
Penguins suck because they want to.
Playoffs? I doubt anyone is using playoffs and Pens in the same sentence any longer this year. The Penguins now are as close to the last place team in the Eastern Conference as they are the Flyers which is the 3rd place team in the Metro and who they have to catch to make the playoffs.
That's my point.Playoffs? I doubt anyone is using playoffs and Pens in the same sentence any longer this year.
There have been reports to expect the Guentzel deal to be done by tomorrow afternoon. Detroit is hot after Rust I hear. Rust is an Ann Arbor native. I mean, to me that makes alot of sense for both teams. Detroit has some good young assets.72 hours until the NHL Trade Deadline ...... awaiting Dubby's moves with excitement ! .... Start the rebuild !
In fairness, he washed out of 2 prior organizations in Buffalo and Chicago that had plenty of room for him. At least they got a useful future bottom six guy in Bemstrom. That is because Sullivan blows. He plays favorites and decides players don't fit in before giving them a chance.
Isn't he, Bemstrom, on an expiring contract? At least they got a useful future bottom six guy in Bemstrom.
I don't know if you can trade coaches under contract like you can in the NFL and MLB, but my god, Mike Sullivan to the Devils for some prospects and picks would make alot of sense. He would be perfect for that team, that team would be perfect to play the way he wants to play. That is because Sullivan blows. He plays favorites and decides players don't fit in before giving them a chance.
Bemstrom will be a RFA at the end of the season .... if the Pens want him back they can likely make a deal with him, although, he is eligible for salary arbitration if he wants to go that direction and the Pens may not want to gamble with that ......Isn't he, Bemstrom, on an expiring contract?
Bemstrom will be a RFA at the end of the season .... if the Pens want him back they can likely make a deal with him, although, he is eligible for salary arbitration if he wants to go that direction and the Pens may not want to gamble with that ......
The other thing about the Bemstrom trade that I didn't see mentioned here is that the Pens traded Nylander and a conditional 2026 6th round draft pick for Bemstrom ..... the condition on the draft pick is that if Bemstrom scores 6 + goals with the Pens by the end of this season, that 2026 draft pick becomes a 3rd round pick ..... he has scored one goal with the Pens so far.
Yeah, saw Nylander had a hat trick .... in 103 NHL games he has 40 points which averages about 31 points/year, he is 26 y/o and salary is 775,000, Nylander had 2 points in 14 games with the Pens (admittedly not a large data base with the Pens) ...... Bemstrom in 209 NHL games has 70 points averaging 27 points per season, is 24 y/o and makes 900,000 ..... both are RFA's at the end of the year ..... Nylander has played with 3 NHL organizations and Bemstrom now with his 2nd ...... not sure either player would make a big difference, so will have to see how their careers go to better assess what at this point is considered a minor trade ......
Saw the reports that multiple teams especially Detroit are asking about Rust ..... he is from Michigan but has a NMC through the 2024-2025 season, not sure he wants to move from the Pens, and the Pens still consider him an important player for them ....... deal for Rust would have to be a big return for Pens and Rust would have to agree to waive NMC ..... tend to think he will remain with Pens for now although anything is possible and we shouldn't be shocked by a Rust trade ......
Some comments .....I'm hoping to see 6 ne
I'm hoping we see 6 new faces among the forward lines next season. I don't think they'll move Rust, not that I'm against it. From the current roster, I expect something like:
Rakell Crosby Rust
New Malkin New
DOC New New
New Acciari New
Would be great if Malkin accepts 3rd line use, but I doubt it will happen.
Of Puljujarvi, Puustinen, Bermstrom and Gruden, I suppose one will stick, but havn't been impressed by any.
Some comments .....
- Of the 4 players in your last paragraph, IMO, Puustinen is the best by a pretty good margin ...... I think he has the skills to play in the top 6...... very good skater, good puck retrieval, good passing/solid stick handling, has a high hockey IQ, and is improving in his defensive responsibilities ...... he is a bit undersized, needs to score more goals in the NHL, and make sure he is responsible defensively but I overall like him especially compared to the other 3 .....
- The Pens lines tonight have changed with all the forwards out (Guentzel, Rust, Acciari, Harkins, Nieto etc. out) ...... one thing I thought was interesting is that Eller who has been the 3rd line center all year is on Crosby's wing and DOC who has played on the 1st line with Crosby before is the 3rd line center for the 1st time ...... I wonder if this means they want DOC to center the 3rd line because maybe Eller is on his way out in a trade ?
- Not sure who the Pens will trade but suspect Guentzel, Reilly Smith, maybe Eller and possibly Nedjelkovic may be on their way out ...... a lot of other trade possibilities, this is a big trade deadline for Dubas, he has to get it right !
=-Agree about Puljujarvi who hasn't shown me much either but he did undergo bilateral significant hip surgery (and I think he had previous lesser hip surgery) and when the Pens brought him in he required further physical therapy and conditioning ..... I'd like to see how he does if he gets back to 100% health wise ..... may or may not be any better ..... PS- he finally scored a goal tonight.
- Well, Geno has scored a goal for both teams so far tonight ...... a blistering shot in the 1st to put the Pens up 2-0 and then deflected a puck into his own net past Jarry in the 2nd period to tie the game 2-2 (of course, the Blue Jacket player who shot the puck got the goal but if not for Geno's deflection, Jarry makes an easy save).
Eller's FOW% = 54.1 % which is pretty good ..... he will be worth something if traded. This is the best I've seen Pulujarvi look - even without the goal.
Too bad Eller doesn't have Carter's FOW percentage, they'd definitely be able to get something for him.
Let the selloff begin. Guentzel should be the biggest asset to move...but more should follow.Reports out that Guentzel will be traded by tomorrow night and Pens looking for 1st round pick, young NHL player and top prospect in return ( multiple teams named as possible)...... also, that Guentzel will be a rental which if true would mean he will be an UFA at the end of the season (and Pens could resign him although unlikely) ......
Detroit is definitely on the way up and the Pens are not. And he is from there.Bemstrom will be a RFA at the end of the season .... if the Pens want him back they can likely make a deal with him, although, he is eligible for salary arbitration if he wants to go that direction and the Pens may not want to gamble with that ......

I'd like to see Rust moved. Has great value now, but tends to get injured. The contract could be problematic if/when he declines or continually becomes injured. Is he part of the core? If not, add young pieces and take your lumps retooling.Detroit is definitely on the way up and the Pens are not. And he is from there.
Yeah I would have let him hit free agency. Good player, but now getting up there and here's the thing that alot of Pens fans are missing. They haven't won a playoff series since 2018. So why is the desire so strong to keep the band together. They have not just gotten older, they have gotten stale and the same voices the same guys......it just is not working. So......try something else.I'd like to see Rust moved. Has great value now, but tends to get injured. The contract could be problematic if/when he declines or continually becomes injured. Is he part of the core? If not, add young pieces and take your lumps retooling.
Again....what I just posted above.PM Team skewering the Pens to open their 2-6 show (in the brief period I heard). Guentzel likely to be traded by end of day. Sounds as if the Pens have had no real talks of extending him and jake is irked by this failure. Are the Pens not interested in signing him longer term or are they simply assuming that they will not be able to meet the market price and that Jake wants to realize his full salary potential on this deal? If Jake is going to get north of $10 mil for 6-7 years, it might not be a smart thing to try and sign him.
We all knew these days were coming. Might be here sooner than we expected.
If the Guentzel to Carolina post above is true and the Pens are getting Bunting, hopefully we also get a high draft pick and an upper level prospect in return as well especially if the idea is to get younger, faster, and bring more talent to the Pens ...... interested to see how the trade ends up ..... suspect a couple/few more trades tomorrow.
Most of the "experts" were saying the Pens were looking for a young NHL player, a 1st RD draft pick and a top level prospect in return for Guentzel ...... Bunting is only a year younger then Guentzel and a solid player who could possibly play on the top 2 lines but is nowhere near Guentzel's level (the money probably does work with Bunting), so if the experts are right then we should be getting a couple more assets in addition to Bunting ...... I think most likely a couple more assets from either a high draft pick, top prospect, or younger NHL player on their roster as we are looking to get younger, faster, and increase talent level ...... we'll see, obviously can't assess a deal that isn't complete/announced yet.You would hope that Bunting is just a guy the Pens are taking to help make the money work. I mean he doesn't suck, he'll certainly play here. But he can't be the centerpiece, or anything close to the centerpiece, for this to be a good deal for the Penguins.
