...just don't get.

This should piss a few people off.

My list would include the following:

Pink Floyd (never understood the appeal here at all. Boring music in my opinion)
The Doors (The Lizard King is the snooze king in my books, though I do appreciate his lyrical ability)
The Rolling Stones (Maybe in their day, but today they seem to be characters of their former selves)
Guns n roses (one good album doesn't make the band legendary, but some people disagree)
Van Halen (boring 80's hair band)
AC/DC (Is this the best the land from down under can do?)

The almost legendary list would include:

Dave Matthews band (is he still popular? And does he still play the exact same set list as in 1992?)

Okay, so I just needed a new category to state how bad I had dave matthews...

Okay, fire away at your hate...

If you're into guitar masters, Van Halen is worth seeing. Eddie's still one of the best.

I know that it's considered heresy to say it, but I can't get into Springsteen. Yeah, I know that he puts on a great show and works his butt off, but personally I like just five songs in his entire catalog. Meanwhile, I really like Southside Johnny. Go figure.

I certainly don't begrudge anyone who likes Bruce & the E Street Band. Different strokes....

Beatles, Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Monkees. :)

Pearl Jam, Pearl Jam, and freaking Pearl Jam. To my ear they are the musical equivalent of a mud puddle. Just drudgery hearing their sound. To this day I can not listen to one of their songs all the way through.

Agree wholeheartedly on Pink Floyd and The Doors. Especially The Doors. Add in Jethro Tull as well. Unlistenable.

As actual musicians? I hate the Beatles. Their music is awful.

Also joining the list? Clapton. Great technical proficiency with absolutely no soul. I'll throw on Bob Dylan, U2 and Foo Fighters. Grohl is a great drummer who should never leave the set.

As far as DMB: Count them as my guilty pleasure. Loved their early albums as a kid and now I can't let them go.

The wall album by Pink Floyd is one of the greatest albums ever written...it tells a story about isolation, lust, insecurity and insanity...every song is amazing to the story...I highly recommend watching the movie!

I love the foo fighters. Saw them in concert for the first time last year and was bored.

WOW. What a thread. I was going to actually post something like this. This is PERFECT!!!

Okay..........Grateful Dead. Don't get them, don't like them. ZZ Top. Blah. Here's one while I respect the talent........I never liked....Stevie Ray Vaughn. And..........the whopper of all whopper's.........I just never really care for the Beatles. Again, mad respect......but it isn't something I was going to buy or make efforts into listening.

The Eagles
Little Feet
Rush
Harry Conick Jr, SR, and all their children

Now back in the day I went to a Fleetwood Mac concert in Cincinnati.... hated Stevie Nick's...still do...but Lindsay Buckingham Rocks..
Saw Tull as well and loved them....1978.
Sold my ticket to the infamous Who concert.

I have heard the urban legend about synchronizing "The Wizard of OZ" with "The Dark Side of the Moon". Here's a write up of someone who did. Pretty fascinating stuff.

The Four Horesmen. All me for most of my life. I can relate. Love it!! Don't have to live that way any more.

There are just so soooooo many. Here are just a few:

KISS
What...the...phuck? I just cannot fathom their appeal on any level. I think of them as music for people who hate music.

Aerosmith
Just pure garbage. How many shitty power ballads can one band put out?

Van Halen
Great, so Eddie Van Halen can really shred it. So the hell what? Sammy Haggar is ridiculously bad. They were slightly less horrific with David Lee Roth before he left to do horrible covers of showtunes.

Motley Crue
Again, what the hell was that all about? I just write off that whole hair band scene as a drug induced haze that we learned from and probably should never revisit.

Steve Miller Band
Again, just plain awful. The musical equivalent of Zima.

Prince
He's universally revered but his actual body of work is just so-so, IMO.

Rage Against the Machine
Just way too much of the same thing over and over and over and over again. That said, I must admit that I do like the song where they kind of fester for a while and then explode and rail against systemic injustice. What's that song called again?

Oh, right. It's EVERY PHUCKING RATM song!

Metallica
Another band which just plain sucks and always has. How many different ways can you write the same goddamm song? Metallica seems hellbent on giving us an answer to that question.

Atrocious.

There are many, many others but that's a good starting point.

You are out of your mind.. They are easily the most influential band in the last 25 years with an amazing body of work. Just sold out another entire tour and 4 stadium shows at Fenway and Wrigley....

Great thread, as I always thought I was the weirdo for not liking most of these groups:

Kiss
Pink Floyd
Van Halen
AC/DC
The Beatles
Aerosmith
Steve Miller Band
U2
The Who

There are many others I can't think of right now. It's not a generational thing as many of those fit into my age group, and I love a lot of bands from that era. Maybe I'm guilty of having a grater affinity for 90's era music, but those that I listed always seemed way overblown to me.

Prince? You're nuts. He was one of the most prolific songwriters/makers of the 80'snd 90's. "1999" is a classic IMHO.

Rage against the machine is one of my favorites but I am a kid from the 90s. Their lyrics about discrimination and right and wrong and oppression really spoke to my teenage mind. I still love them . Tom morello is the best.

I am glad someone mentioned motley crue. More famous for Tommy sex tape than musical genius.

Going off topic I just need to vent. In the early 2000s there was that 3rd eye blind semi charmed kind of life song. I hated it for lots of reasons mainly because the lyrics are about crystal meth and blow jobs. Yet everyone thought it was the cute summer song.

Which is why I can't stand 99% of current music because the lyrics have got nothing to say. (Which is hipster personified as well )

Great thread but often one's perception is shaped by what they listened to between about age 12-30 years old so I take everything with a grain of salt. Here is my 45 year old perception.

The Beatles but I understand why teenagers loved them.
Grateful Dead. If you are a stoner, I get it.
Cold Play to me is like Nickeback.
Jimmy Buffet. I think it's great when people have fun so I feel bad judging
Kiss some of the softer songs are actually good
Doors- it sounds like a never ending list of songs with a few keys being played repetitively.

Van Halen is underrated as all musicians sing and play multiple instruments. You don't see that anymore.
Foo Fighters are classic and talented
Pink Floyd. I didn't get it until I went to a concert. What a show and I just got after that.

Bruce Springstein. One of these smartest guy in the room socialist. Music sucks also.

So you are saying there is nothing to say about crystal meth and blowjobs?

That seems like a really subjective thing to say. There were plenty of pointless lyrics from past generations of musicians, just like there are still on plenty of artists making meaningful lyrics in 2016.

While there are quite a few big name groups I'm indifferent to, one that stands out to me is Black Sabbath. Namely, I actually like some of their songs, with the caveat being that those songs are being playing by someone other than Black Sabbath.

That is why I am looking at this through the lens of a hipster who knows it all and whose own opinion is the only one that matters

Led Zeppelin. They are somewhat OK, Like the type of band that I like having their greatest hits and like half of them, but why are they the "greatest band ever"? Their sound is never FUN, it's always dark and dreary, like as if you're on acid, after shooting up heroin and are now laying behind a dumpster in an alleyway and can't get up.

That depends on music taste. What is "fun" anyways? I think most "fun" groups are insipid, saccharine like crap.

Stone Temple Pilots suck.. Aerosmith is a good one, don't really get why people love them.. I love classic rock but not getting the "Rush" being legendary thing either.. Van Halen is another good one, the only cool thing about Van Halen is Eddie banged Valerie Bertinelli..

I love Steve Miller band for the simple fact that I've been to about 10 of their concerts and had a blast every single time... This was about the time I was a junior in high school so going out to starlake and drinking beer with 20 of your classmates with zero worries about getting in trouble was truly memorable..

Went to a pink Floyd concert, it is something that you truly have to be on drugs to enjoy. Not a metaphor or exaggeration either. I never was into drugs, more of a drink 20 beers kind of guy so yeah, concert missed it's mark with me..

When I was much younger I hung out with a group of guys that loved the Steve Miller Band. When they would blast his music in the car I'd just keep my mouth shut but I hated every minute of it. It just did nothing for me but annoy me.

Finally, one year, they all made plans to all go to the Steve Miller concert - he came every year. One of them, a really nice kid, asked me if I would go to and I declined.

That really upset my friend – far more than I had intended to. I wasn't trying to be an idiot, I just had no interest in seeing that show and was trying to be honest with him about it.

Basically, he reasoned, as many do, "Hey, if you don't like the music it's still a fun party." And that was the difference between us. I wouldn't go to a football game if I hated football and I wasn't going to go see a concert of a band that I just didn't connect with on any level.

I am dead serious when I say that my relationship with that group of friends, whom I had known all my life, was never the same after that. I probably should've been more delicate in my explanation. I guess you live and you learn?
