He is the big I thought would be a great 4th round pick. Only 4 guys in this draft had double double seasons (I think)...he is not close to those other guys but still had a double double in the ACC. Regardless of the team being horrible he had a really nice season as he stuffed the stat books 12.7 PT 10.1 RB 2.8 AST 1.6 STL and 39% from 3. I’ll take him over guys like Varga, Gant, Jones etc.

Varga in his Junior year was a better player, but Ryan is nothing to cry about. Good pick.

Would have guessed you were talking about Blount, based on the NBA career.

Varga was the better athlete and had better players around him. But just going on numbers (we know there is a lot more than numbers)...Ryan beat him in every category.

Well the problem with that is that in the season in question Luther didn't play any games against ACC teams. He only played non-conference games that season before he got hurt.

Edited to add, I do still think he's a good pick at this point.

Yeah, but I'm not going on numbers saying that Varga was better. Ryan did more than I ever thought he would do at Pitt, but no way he puts up those kind of numbers if he played on a better team and against better competition.

I forgot that (guess I wanted to forget that season). But he still played against WVU, DUQ, PSU and OK ST and avg a double double vs those teams for what it’s worth.

Luther and Penny were the two guys I was considering instead of Maile. Still not sure I made the right call.

Damn. I thought Seabrooks was terrible but with those numbers, he's Wilt Chamberlain compared to what we've had at the 5 since McGhee (besides Adams)

I remember him being a big physical dude. Why did he get kicked out of Pitt again? Didn’t he beat up someone...?

This wasn't like that. FK Thomas was up, but hadn't seen who was taken earlier because he wasn't on the board for awhile. He wanted to pick Luther, but wasn't sure if he was taken. So he asked if he was still available..............and then he picked him as soon as we answered him.

yeah. It was my turn in the draft and I just wanted to know if he was available because the draft list hadnt been updated. If the thread wasn’t cluttered, I’d have been able to see it rather clearly. All was good.

If he had his head together and stuck around four years, he really could have been a good player.

Like you said, he wasn't too bad in that one year either. He had good size and strength, but really didn't know how to use it just yet.

Those Willard days were really something. Vonteego and Blount were Top 40. Kelli Taylor was 50-100 depending who you look at. Mike Gill was ranked #42 by one source. Seabrooks was top 100. Cosby was top 125. Jarrett Lockart was top 100. Even Andre Howard was ranked #57 by one source.

Only Ricky Greer -- ranked around #75 -- and Issac Hawkins -- around top 100 -- ever fulfilled their promise.

But with all that talent, Willard never even sniffed an NCAA tournament.
