Pickett

And right now, Broderick Jones and Darnell Washington aren't looking like great picks. Joey Jr and Keeanu Benton are looking good, though.

I'd add that Dan Moore still being a starter isn't a good sign with the way the OL is looking. They drafted Fautanu (whose really a guard) to play that position with the 20th pick. Day one OL-men need to be ready to play but they waited until there was an injury to put Jones in there last year, too.
Yeah the staff is clearly able to develop defenders and get them playing at a high level. I've heard good things about Herbig and Cory Trice, too. Highsmith in 2020 was obviously a tremendous value pick.

The problem is the offense. And it's bad. In no way should 8 picks in the top 93 players turn into two average starters (one of whom you even declined the rookie option on!) and a good starter. That's approaching Las Vegas Raiders level of dysfunction. It's so systematic, too. Failures across two GMs, two OCs, 3 QBs, and an ungodly combination of OL. The coach has to be to blame for at least part of that.

There is something to be said about continuity. Nothing good comes out of a coaching carousel. But in this case, we may have the exact opposite, and that’s complacency with Rooney…if we haven’t achieved it already. If this season is an abject failure, it should be curtains for Tomlin. But I think you’re right. He has a job here for as long as he wants one.

Tomlin is untouchable.
Agreed. I think he's basically in the late-days of Belichick phase. He's got 2 years of Cam Newton/some young guy and then 1 year of abject failure and both sides will conclude that the best thing is for him to retire.

Have to be almost certain that this - through 2027 - is his final contract.

Instead we picked an oft-injured, can't block, JAG tight end.

Should've taken Creed in the first round. It was quite stunning, IMO, that he fell as far as he did.
Could have - but once he dropped to the second round they should have immediately picked him.

Eh, you haven’t seen centers go in the first very often. It was easily the best value pick on the board and the Steelers desperately needed a capable center in front of Ben. Just an epic failure.
Highest-rated center in years and one of the cleanest prospects in the entire draft. The Steelers had also taken their last long-term answer at center in the first round. Humphrey certainly shouldn't have been out of question in the first, but instead wasted the pick on a volume producer at running back to try to fix the ground game.

Since Pickett was the problem. This Steeler team easily wins 10 plus games and is a contender for the ring.
Your sarcasm is appreciated. Honestly the Steelers were very arrogant to think that QB play was what kept them from the Super Bowl when Josh Allen treated them like human Porta-Potties. Their defense wasn't as good as they thought. Their O line was and is garbage. Their coach hasn't won an on field play challenge since like 2012. Oh yeah and he hired Randy Fichtner and Matt Canada......nuff said? Oh yeah and they canned James Conner who is having a beautiful career out of this city and they just declined the 5th year option on the dude they drafted to replace him 🤣

Some players just cannot digest the overwhelming and groundbreaking leadership that MT and the Steelers offer and they require a different environment in which to thrive.

To be fair, Josh Allen pretty much went out and did the exact same thing against eventual Super Bowl Champion Kansas City the following week. The difference was the two horrible turnovers, one on a 2nd and goal and the other from their own red zone. Both led to scores.

And the minor detail that the Steelers played the Bills without T.J. Watt, the best defensive player on the planet.

Every team deals with injuries. I seen a back up come in for Mahomes. TJ is amazing, but they were up so big early they took their foot off the gas in the second half but soon as it got close they slammed the door. Would it have been closer with TJ. Certainly so, but they would have still lost. Let's not forget folk heros Pickens and Rudolph had two costly turn overs. They feasted on the Bengals and got cocky. They barely beat the Ravens back ups to get to the playoffs. Bottom line..... Steelers are not Super Bowl contenders this or last year and there are quite a few reasons why.

QB is the literal biggest reason the Steelers aren't Super Bowl contenders. By far the most single most important position in sports.

I agree with you but try telling that to most of the football world. The Myles Garrett love over TJ is the strangest phenomenon I’ve seen in recent years. ESPN has him at like the #4 player in the NFL and TJ the #10 player.

Some noise that Broderick Jones won't be a starter in Week #1. No idea how Dan Moore is still starting and the Steelers can't find a competent left tackle but want to break the bank on a guy like Aiyuk.
I’m not at camp or the southside, but guys like Pomp have said that Dan Moore has been pretty good this summer. So if that’s the case, then it would be very bizarre replacing him with a guy who was a human turnstile in games. Except the human turnstile was a first round pick that they traded up to get.

Perhaps those injuries he alludes to are more serious and are affecting his dubious performance in the preseason?

Pretty sure Jones was a consensus top tackle prospect when he was drafted.
They've had some really bad luck this preseason with injuries along the O line. Last year's #1 having a knee injury was horrible, losing the center for the season, and Jones along with some other nicks along the line.

Well you can be smug but he’s not the only one. And he’s connected, and not a $hit stirrer or click baiter. I’m just saying that the only reason we are questioning Dan Moore vs Jones is because of where Jones was drafted. There is possible that Moore is better.

IF thats true, that does not bode well for this offense and this season will be a disaster. Moore may be better but unless hes drastically improved from last year, hes still a below the line LT.

I find it hard to believe a guy who came in as a true Rookie and was immediately one of the better OL is now not good enough to start. For the Qbs sake lets hope hes just injured.

Well, pro game is a bit different for a LT. Everyone is crazy fast. If Moore is better, that's great but if Jones can't even start at RT, that's really bad.

Dan Moore is almost 26. Broderick Jones just turned 23. It's possible the year 4 guy is better than the year 2 guy right now. It's also possible that changes at some point. There are some pretty good tackles in the league who struggled early on.

What's not possible, however, is for Kenny Pickett to complete a pass that travels more than 96 inches in the air :)

Yeah like a mediocre OL pedestrian TEs and a bottom third Wr room. If they only had Mahomes at qb they’d be Super Bowl contenders …..
They would contend, QB is so important that Mahomes would make even this group look good, of course they also need a real offensive scheme, not the 1970s style "run the ball" crap they're obsessed with.
