Yeah the staff is clearly able to develop defenders and get them playing at a high level. I've heard good things about Herbig and Cory Trice, too. Highsmith in 2020 was obviously a tremendous value pick. And right now, Broderick Jones and Darnell Washington aren't looking like great picks. Joey Jr and Keeanu Benton are looking good, though.
I'd add that Dan Moore still being a starter isn't a good sign with the way the OL is looking. They drafted Fautanu (whose really a guard) to play that position with the 20th pick. Day one OL-men need to be ready to play but they waited until there was an injury to put Jones in there last year, too.
The problem is the offense. And it's bad. In no way should 8 picks in the top 93 players turn into two average starters (one of whom you even declined the rookie option on!) and a good starter. That's approaching Las Vegas Raiders level of dysfunction. It's so systematic, too. Failures across two GMs, two OCs, 3 QBs, and an ungodly combination of OL. The coach has to be to blame for at least part of that.
