Pitt @ Miami Game Thread

4 wide open missed threes thus far without a man within about 10 feet. 2 from Austin, 1 from Lowe, 1 from Guillermo. Austin's barely hit the rim.

Almost every time Austin dribble penetrates, we have scored points. 3 times they put us on the line. Drive more, shoot less, especially from 3.

Too much 1 on 1 stuff from Carrington. Carrington needs way more catch and shoot shots and way less 1 on 1. He has not played well today on either end.

Hinson- No show thus far
Hinson waking up

Not looking so hot against good team that aren't missing 40% of their starting lineup this season. It'd be nice just to lose this by less than ten.

Hinson has 11 of 26 now and is the only reason we’re not run out of the gym but we will hear how this team needs younger players and Hinson stinks from one insane poster

This is pathetic. Pitt is back to their normal Capel team, lacking defense and playing one-on-one playground ball. That 80 points Pitt needs to win isn't going to happen today, especially when the opponent is going to score in the 90's.

Why does Miami look like everyone playing is big and 34 years old?

I'm a little puzzled as to why Bub is handling the ball so much today. We are much better when Jaland is, save his last ill-advised drive.

The way we played the final 3+ minutes it looked as if we could (or should) have cut their lead in half. Still, it doesn't look like it's the Miami defense that's beating us; it's lousy shooting. Leggett's last three was unguarded and he just seemed rushed

Pretty strong close to the half from Hinson. He had 1 point when I posted was 0-4 from the field and 1-3 from the line. Nice strong finish including on the glass by him,.

The biggest issue with this entire game is the same thing I have been bitching about non stop on this board.

We have taken 31 shots. 17 of those are 3s. And we are shooting 23% from the 3. We have had success in back to back acc road wins with constant dribble penetration. We got put on the free throw line 3 times in this game just based off Austin drives. I would love to be in the huddle at halftime and what Jeff Capel says. Because this team is down 11 and needs to get going attacking the rim relentlessly and forget the dam 3 ball outside Hinson.

Something about Bub's deep shot just doesn't sit well with me. A little goofy on the release, and it just doesn't come off soft/with good rotation at all.

In fairness, that's a damn good team shooting % from 3.

One of the best in the country, in fact. So we should have expected that they were going to make some of them.

The bigger issue is that we are shooting them much worse than normal. If we had made two more, which would have been close to our average, and the score was 40-35 we'd all probably be feeling a little better.

My problem is many of those 3s were uncontested… Austin on a couple just stood there…not sure if it’s fear of fouling or what?

I'd like to see an advanced stat on open looks. Because this "well, Capel can't make the open shots for these guys" doesn't jive with what I'm seeing most games. Yes, every team misses some open ones, but we seem to consistently get worse looks than our opponent from 3. Hinson is obviously a big part of that.

True; the score should be 40-36 (adding one more FT) if we shoot our average percentages. We'll see if the second half improves and we can make a "Springfield" turnaround

Watch the replay. You will see 3 Pitt players miss 4 wide open 3s in that first half where there wasn't a player within 10 feet or so of them.

How does Lowe shoot an air ball on a wide open 3? I don't understand that. It's just strange to me that a guard with good form can do that.

Yeah, but guys miss open threes literally every game.

Imagine what people's shooting percentages would look like if they made every open shot they took.
Yeah but it shifts blame from his 2 brothers, Jeff and Jason, who are not up to snuff coaching or recruiting. So he will continue saying stupid stuff and using straw man arguments

What great offense...run down the floor..3, miss, 3 miss, 3 miss................

Well of course they do. But you can't miss 4 of them completely wide open like that. And I stopped counting how many other shots were wide open. The Lowe miss this half was wide open.

All this team does is want to shoot 3s today.

Ill make bballinsider happy. Capel gets an F in this game for letting his team continue to shoot like this.

23 of our 40 shots have been 3 pointers. That is almost 60% of our total shots. That is sickening.
