Pitt soccer

I don't think Duquesne is good but its possible that they're the 2nd best team in the A10, which is a mid-major league but still. Might be a showdown in October. The City Match??? Put it at Acrisure and pack the place.
Yeah right. You’ll never draw more than 3K.

At some point, it'll come out that she has a torn ACL
I didn’t watch the game where she got hurt. It seems she only played 13 minutes that game. If an ACL, that sucks for sure. When does the covid year end? If a player hasn’t used it, is there a date it runs out? She could be fine by end of spring and play next fall. She will be good enough to go pro for sure.

This is a different team on the road. Not sure what it is. Noel being injured doesn't help. Concerned about the defense. They seem to miss Ordonez at CB.

UVa ended up missing the PK but why wasnt it reviewed. It seemed pretty clear that the UVa player kicked Gallina and that Gallina didn't come close to fouling him. What's the rule on that?

Unfortunately this team is looking more like I said before the season, a 2nd round NCAAT loss type of team. The defense is average at best. Gallina was very bad. Mauiffeaud with a "Not Top 10" back pass to a UVa player for an easy breakaway goal. UVa is really good but this team looks mid-tier ACC, which is still good but not National Championship level.

Clemson up 1-0 with a goal with 18 seconds left in the 1st Half. Pitt going for its 4th straight game without a win, 3 of them at home. Clemson has had the better chances and looks like the better team.

This Pitt team has major issues defensively. The analyst highlighted their defensive issues on the pregame.

1-1

Huge goal. Beautiful pass by Mirkovic and quality finish by Noel

What the hell just happened?
I dont understand what happened. I thought the clock stops for free kicks? If that's not true, Valentin Noel went down injured so shouldn't the clock be stopped at that point? Or if the ref feels the player is faking the injury, can he opt to not stop it? I'm confused but I'm sure Pittsburgh Soccer Now will explain it.

Walti was fouled with 30 seconds left and Lucas Rosa, the free kick specialist, would have had a shot from 20 yards out but the clock wasnt stopped. Well, it was with 11 seconds left. Then they ended the game with 11 seconds left. The clock never hit 0. I've never seen that. The neutral ACCN announcers were very upset. Dalen Cuff said "the last 11 seconds were never played."

I thought the clock stops for free kicks?

Not normally.

That was the weirdest ending to a game pretty much ever. If the ref doesn't think that there was any reason to stop the clock then he should have let play continue and let Pitt try to get a shot off before the clock expired. If he does think that there is a reason to stop the clock then he has to let Pitt have the 11 seconds to take the free kick. He doesn't get to decide to stop the clock so Pitt can't try to get a shot, and then not let the time play out.

He blew it. Plain and simple, he blew it.

FWIW, in the story on the Pitt web site it says that the ref said that he didn't tell them to stop the clock.

Which, if you watched the game, is simply wrong.

What about Noel's injury? Does he have to stop it for that?

I've really never seen anything like that in any sport. If this had been a sport that people wagered on, he would be investigated.

Trying to guess his thought process. Not sure why he stopped the clock if it didn't need stopped. Perhaps that was just a complete error on his part. He stops it with 11 seconds but then realizes he shouldn't have so he ends the game with those 11 seconds left......which isnt something he's allowed to do. He literally ended the game before it was over and I've never seen that.

I didn’t get to watch the game. I’ll have to watch this morning and see what happened. Did Noel get attended to by the team trainer? If someone came out to help him clock stops. We had an odd situation Thursday night in my kids game. A girl took a ball straight to the gut. She went down, but the ball got cleared out of bounds not for her but as poor pass, and the girl helped herself off the field. The ref decides to add a minute thirty on the clock and gives the other team a drop ball. It was a complete shitshow. The home team coach said nothing and just let it go and allowed it to happen despite everyone knowing it was wrong. We ended up winning 1-0, but the issue happened with 5:30 left in game. The clock person changed it to 6 minutes than 7 minutes and the ref said nothing. I’m glad NCAA has additional refs on sidelines, but clock issues can sometimes be an issue because they don’t go back and review it. At least in high school they just make decisions without actually thinking about what they just did.

Just now watched it. The ref goes and checks on Noel, Noel gets up and the ref goes to the ball and signals on my whistle. Hands above his head and points to the whistle. He decides to run over to the sideline and has a few words with Pitt bench, and a second after talking to Pitt bench blows whistle to end the game.

I didn’t realize, or actually pay attention, but didn’t realize the Pitt goalie is that Van der Sar. I mean, seriously, talk about one of my all time favorite MU and Dutch players. My favorite goalie ever is Belgian goalie Preud'homme. But Van der Sar was part of some great Dutch and MU teams.

I am thinking the ref went over to Noel and told him he's faking (which he may have been) and to get up. Does the ref have that authority? Had Noel remained down a trainer come out, would they have had to stop the clock?

How many 6'5 Van der Sar GKs do you think there are?

I never focused on the goalie, pretty much just ignored who it was as I always focused on more offensive guys. Once I saw the name I knew the possibility of being related, but van der is very common in holland, means basically where from so you get a million van der or van.

The trainers can only come out if the ref waves them on. So yes, if the ref calls for the trainers to come out the clock will stop.

Pitt has to be careful. They are 5-3-2. The RPI if 24 is good but they only have 1 good win (#30 RPI UNC). #23 (RPI) Denver visits Saturday. Weirdly, they're playing on 48 hours rest as they drew St. Thomas tonight despite out-shooting them 19-3. They won at UVa on Tuesday 1-0. Then away to a 2-9-1 VT team but VT always plays them tough and Pitt is bad on grass.

Next Monday is the showdown with the Dukes, then they go to Duke

Quite lucky tonight, but a win is a win.
What a loser I am. I played a round of golf with my son yesterday afternoon and didn’t feel like getting off the couch last night…so You know how I spent my night? I watched the UNC vs NCSU mens soccer game from start to finish. Surely there was pro sports or college football on, but I could care less. I didn’t even have a rooting interest in the soccer game I watched. I just found it entertaining.

I sat on my stationary bike watching the Pitt VT game. You have to win games and win games even when you get lucky or have a goalie save a great shot. VT had more opportunities but couldn’t hit the side of a barn. And Van Der Sar had the one really important save. Just enough that when Pitt did have a good opportunity netted an important goal and hung on.

Yeah I came home from the golf course thinking the game was on, but it was over already and UNC was on. So I watched that.

It’s bad when you find yourself watching a soccer game and you ask yourself, why am I watching two teams I never heard of. Sometimes we just watch any soccer game because we just like the sport so much.

Pitt might have played its worst game of the season. VT isnt as bad as their record but still one of the worst teams in the ACC and they were quite a bit better than Pitt on the night. The defense yields far too many chances. Pitt was lucky to win but they have a lot of work to do. They aren't playing well right now. On to the Dukes.
