*Pitt Transfer Portal Thread*

Not necessarily well. Hayes and Okunlola for Matlack and Ojiegbe, for instance, is a net loss. Jules for Nick James... same thing.

I'm not saying any of the three departures were even all that great. But they're all better than what we replaced them with.

I actually think they did a good job of replacing the production at DE. It isn’t always in versus out. Matlack had similar numbers as Okunlola put up last season, albeit in likely fewer snaps. But an improved Jimmy Scott was better than Hayes was last year IMO, plus Edwards came on to have a solid year in reserve.

The interior was a problem, just the same as last year.

He couldn’t crack the staring OL for this unit. He won’t be missed
I think it a mistake he did not play more with the constant line juggling.

After the Taylor injury, we handled who played and who played where very poorly.

Decision making appeared chaotic

Scott and Edwards were going to be here either way, though, so it is in vs out to a large degree.

So it's really Matlack + Borders + Ojiegbe vs Hayes and Okunlola.

The group this year had 20 tackles and 6.5 sacks between the three of them. Last year, they 34 tackles and 9 sacks between the two of them. And I would assume the two from last year would have only gotten better.

Obviously there are plenty of other metrics to evaluate them by; I'm just going by what is readily available. But they both looked a lot better to me as well, and both apparently had a much higher market NIL value so I think college coaches agreed.

It isn’t that simple though. Matlack was brought in with the expectation to play major minutes as a senior. Comparing him to Hayes is fair. Borders was in the two deep, similar to Okunlola last year, but the latter was starting by year end. Ojiegbe was maybe 6th on the team in terms of snaps at DE this year.

Also Scott and Edwards might be here regardless, but aren’t playing nearly as much if those two stay. The coaches see what they have behind the starters in practice. They could see if there was talent but still need numbers. So I think they added a starter in Matlack, a rotation guy in Borders, and a project in Ojiegbe.

At the end of the day, the production was still there. Plus they got rid of Hayes’ attitude.

The production was sorely lacking at DE this season. It definitely wasn't there.

It feels like this year there'll be a lot more transfers. I don't know if that'll be an overall net positive or negative for the roster depending on who they bring in. I also don't like how many don't stick with the program and develop...unless they need to transfer down because they aren't at the level necessary to play FBS football.

I feel Charlie P. leaving influenced a lot of D-Line guys to transfer. I'm not remembering the time frame of all announcements last year, but in-house talk probably went on and they probably knew he was on his way out before we did. There's just some coaches that if they bolt players are gonna not stay without him and from everything I heard of Charlie he was one the coaches. If he would have went to another college team and not the NFL I bet a handful of those kids ended up at the same college.

The list of guys who we've actually seen play a good amount and I really care about coming back to Pitt is small. Louis, Biles, Lovelace, Edwards, Johnson, Neal, Scott, Brewu, Gandy, Reid, Holstein, BJ Williams. After that, who gives a damn?
Sean Fitzsimmons made a difference when he returned to the lineup, really helped solidify the interior DL

Something like 1/3 of the recruits that entered the Portal were left without a home.

If you're good your theory makes sense but if you aren't it doesn't.

Kamara wishes he didn't.
I thought i read where Kamara is one of the first portal guys to get paid under new rules?

He went to Kansas, got paid 300K per news reports.

Hopefully they can keep front seven on defense.
I don't know if they have the money to go get an impact DE or OT to improve our line play, so probably hope the current guys develop.
Really think we need a RB and WR to help the offense out.

I don't know that a number was ever disclosed. It was said to be "lucrative," but that could mean just about anything, I think. But yeah - it's a revenue sharing deal at Kansas.

Was it a mistake or was he still not one of the top 5 OL?

Kamara went to South Carolina - played a few games as a back-up - then told Beamer that he was done at USC.
Thought the latest was that he was heading to SMU.

Who knows anymore.

He supposedly signed a deal with Kansas where he has a "lucrative" profit sharing deal. No details of how much he stands to make were disclosed. I highly doubt a dude who looks like Tarzan but plays like Jane is about to land the mother load UNLESS its performance based. Kamara was/is one of the most over hyped players ever to don a Pitt uni.

He didn’t play much at South Carolina but what I thought was ironic, seemed like Carolina went on their winning streak right after he left.

He had been a starting center and had played at guard. Montgomery and Brown had not played at all.

Cooper - Moore - Williams - Jacoby - Baer - Enos if healthy were the top 6 choices after Taylor got hurt.

He entered the portal, tried to come back to Pitt, then transferred to South Carolina, wanted to transfer again, they kicked him off the team and last I heard he went to Kansas.

We need to get the edge rusher from Charlotte Demon Clowney (Jadevon's cousin) or the FIU TE Rocky Beers.

I think he started some games last year but this year cooper won the job and held it. He only got to play when cooper was hurt. Clearly they didn’t think he was that great because they went out and got cooper. He also didn’t get much PT outside of center so it appears he had little value beyond center

Paying a LB who transferred to S Carolina but couldn't get on the field for them 300k? Craziness.

That guy never figured it out. Had the physical tools in abundance, none of the football IQ and instincts.

How many players from Pitt entered the portal last year? Just curious for comparison.

Moore started 10 games at Pitt and played in a bunch of others.

Given the available options he should have been at guard or center.

I forgot Collier with my original list.

We should have either left Enos at tackle or tried Jacoby there.

My line would have been: Center: Moore. Guards: Williams and Cooper. Tackles: Baer and Jacoby/Enos

Another WCU Catamount looking at Pitt. LT Derek Simmons is in the portal with 1 year left. Solid pass protector who was 2nd team all conference and visiting Pitt next week. Also being courted by GT, Texas Tech, NC State, and MSU.

Clowney is not very good. He just has a great last name.
Yeah strictly was going off by names haha and if he has at least one hit in him like his cousin against Michigan I want him lol

But for anyone who doesn't know and has IG

Tracks a bunch of the guys opting into the portal if anyone interested

A LOT of QBs... Seems like one position they just don't want to stick around and learn, when I feel like they should. I don't mind grad transfer guys or guys that been in a program for 3 years as backups but a bunch of Freshman or RS Freshmen QBs jump ship very quickly these days.

Put a mirror up to his mouth.
