Maybe I don’t know the whole story, I didn’t read any details to that effect.
Sanders tweeted some things that seem to indicate he's losing at least some guys who he doesn't want to lose. No idea if it's any of the former Pitt guys.
I don’t think so. Duke just landed the top transfer QB in the portal as of yesterday. So they are writing big checks.
This sounds like a situation where Duke told Murphy they can do better and he should move on.
Nah. I think they have probably known for some time that they weren't going to be able to hang on to Murphy and both moves have been in the works for a while. There seems to be a lot of chatter about Murphy to Notre Dame.
Murphy isn’t getting much more than the reported deal Duke just gave to Tulane kid.
Best of luck to him. He was always a long shot as a last minute add when Minchey decided to keep the bench warm for ND. I do wonder how Ty still has 4 years of eligibility left. Wasn’t he a RS freshman this year?

Cignetti sucked, but I don't put this one on him as much. We kind of got screwed over by Minchey and took a flyer on a dude.

Dugger was a similar deal to Diffenbach as well. They were in early on FL QB Trever Jackson. He never committed, but it seems like that was their expectation and they kind of eased up on other targets. Then Ole Miss offered and the kid jumped. (Looks like he eventually flipped to FSU.) But by then Pitt was already out on a lot of QBs and went with Dugger as Plan B. Maybe he turns into a player, but “no one”, Plan B, Plan B… isn’t a great way to backfill the position.
Didn't Jackson have to walk on at FSU? Pretty sure his stock like completely plummeted. Which is probably further indication that our scouting there has sucked. Minchey also seems like a bust.
I think he did go there as PWO. He transferred schools right before his senior year and ended up losing his spot to an underclassman that is one of the top QBs in the 2026 class. Kind of vague as to whether he “decommitted” or whether Ole Miss pulled his offer. Who knows how he turns out, but yeah neither of those two has done anything to support Cig’s evaluation of QBs.
Murphy ended up signing with Oregon State.
Duke has money. They just weren’t going to give it to a scrub.
Murphy isn't exactly a scrub. I think visited Oregon State when he left Texas. I think he's from somewhere on the west coast.
There is nobody going to Wazzo or Oregon State if they have options. Oregon State is not dropping any kind of money bag.
He just isn’t good and was shown the door by Duke, and nobody else opened their doors for him.

They definitely went more of the tools route than lower level production. Spann has the size, build and speed. No production. We will see if that's better than grabbing the G5/FCS guy with a lot more production.
Wish Bass well, but hopefully it's a sign that we can retain all of Lovelace, Louis, and Biles. If that were to happen, I could see Bass not wanting to be a backup in Year 3, even though 5-6 backers tend to get good playing time here.
If he finishes as the most significant loss then we did okay.
Its honestly pitts best shot imo. I actually think you can have success getting fcs guys but your hit rate has to be pretty high. Where its going to hurt is in the trenches imo. I think at skill positions you can see things translate up a level but i think on the OL and DL is tougher to project. Unfortunately thats where pitt needs the most help
