Pitt-Virginia Game Thread

Welp, the big fear now is dropping to 6-6 after the next two, and as much as I hate to say it the odds are that will be the case.

I still am baffled at that long-term extension they gave Dixon with that ridiculous buyout. WHY WHY WHY?? Dixon had reach his peak, he needs to go along with his useless assistants.

There is no point in whining about a decision made under the previous administration. They took a risk. Dixon was still a hot commodity in the coaching world and they thought that by locking him up to a long-term deal they could potentially save Pitt money in the long run. The fact it has backfired thus far does not change the logic in making it.

Based on what?
Extending Narduzzi after one season where every good team beat us???
Not only that, but firing Dixon 4 years ago would have never even been thought of. That would have been the dumbest, most insane thing this university has ever done. At that point in time, he was in the middle of a season that was his first in which Pitt missed the tourney. Quite frankly, Jamie's job was never, ever, ever in question even remotely until late last season. They just became a completely discouraging team on the court and it's showing again this season.

I like Narduzzi and feel things are headed in the right direction but it's just that. A feeling. Kinda like feeling a guy is shooting 10% when he's actually shooting 37 from 3 (before today anyway).

Every team they lost to was better than them and clearly Narduzzi has recruited fairly well in a short amount of time but eventually all that will matter is results.

Lol. This announcer said a) Pitt fought and b) Pitt showed great effort. I don't know if they could have rolled over and played dead any better than they did today. What a stupid statement. They contested maybe 1 or 2 threes that UVA threw up all day. Jamie really needs to rip into the team after this one. Absolutely garbage effort.
Or maybe Scott Barnes needs to rip into Jamie.

I like him, too...
Just a comment of this strange perception that the new administration are some river boat gamblers who demand excellence.

Extending Narduzzi after one above average season demonstrates that to be patently false.

Maybe I am misreading this..but I actually think that extending Narduzzi was somewhat risky. I like Narduzzi and he did exceed expectations for this year but we had many close wins. You cannot discount the luck it took to get Pitt's 8 wins.
Extending Narduzzi is similar thinking to giving Dixon the long term deal. Obviously Dixon had a much greater track record (hence the longer term contract) but both are attempts by Pitt to tradeoff security to a coach without having to raise salaries dramatically.

Oh I didn't disagree and still don't. He needs to produce and in today's world probably sooner than later.

Defense is all effort.

Well it is also athleticism and coaching, preparation. It isn't just effort and running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

I found it almost embarrassingly hilarious watching UVa players drive the lane and have 2 (or 3) Pitt players just try and reach in to deflect the ball which pulled them out of position time and time again as they found an open man for a dunk or a wide open 3.

What I meant, if this administration would have came in 4 years ago, when the slide started, they would have fixed the issue already! Also, bet my life, there would be no extension for 10 years, and this would have been the year, produce or be gone.

Extending narduzzi wasn't risky at all. Apples and oranges.

So you are saying we could take 5 guys off this board, and if we put forth effort we could play good defense?
Come on man. You take any D1 athlete who got a 200000 dollar scholarship for his abilities. Yes, they all can play good defense if their heart is into it.

Serious question. Have you ever played sports?

Yes, I have. No, not above high school levels.

And you are wrong. There is an aspect of effort in everything, but ability is most important.
