We have our best coach in the modern era currently leading our program. He's proven it with his wins thus far. We're lucky to have him.

100 percent correct. This alone cost us that game.

That is when Pitt football fell to the bottom never to recover. Up until the 1989-1990 class we were still bringing in top 5 recruiting classes.

It’s when Bozik and Oval hired Hackett. That put the nail in the coffin. Sadly, that was when Espn’s, Foxes, and other sports channels were just getting started. Imagine if we were still a powerhouse when those TV networks were around. We perhaps would of been able to overcome those knuckleheads mistakes

Well it was not all Hackett. It was Bozik, Oval Jaynes but especially J Dennis OConnor and Mary Briscoe. Look, one of the worst things that happened to Pitt football was the (I think it was 1989 or 90) basketball class where all 5 kids were Prop 48'd. At the same time, Pitt football was under NCAA investigation, many articles were written, ex Gottfried assistant Frank D'Alonzo was under indictment and then the Todd Becker tragedy on top of all of this. It was not good in Oakland and for Pitt football.

So the Administration overreacted, Hackett sold them that he could build a program with good, honorable student athletes. And all of a sudden, players who were perfectly eligible to play football, were denied admissions, WR Chris Jones for one who went to the U, a big DE who ended up at FSU, Gary Clayton a QB from Alabama, Orlanda Truitt left and so it goes.

It is just amazing the whole way through Gottfried's end, how well we recruited. And now, you look at the retrospectives that Chris Peak is doing on the last few recruiting classes and well.......
