1.) The WR’s stink. Not 1 of them can create separation. Guy next to me was yelling at Nooch for throwing balls away...but was too dumb to see nobody open. None of these WR’s shows the ability to make a play over a DB, so you can’t even throw it up and hope they make a play.

2.) Watson is terrible. 1 wr, 1 te and then the back out of the backfield MANY times as the only pass options. No wonder it’s impossible for anybody to get open. Then Hall is gashing them all night, runs like an animal inside the 10....critical series inside the 10 and we run a stupid jet sweep. End of the game having Smith at RT and then going 5 wide, no rb. C’mon man.

3.) RT. Jones-Smith is terrible. He has gone downhil and fast. Nice guy, but not a player anymore.

4.) Opening kickoff. Too many guys jogging down and throwing an arm at the guy. Reynolds looks like he’s running in quicksand. Also, every other kick Kessman puts into the endzone and is known for a big leg. Was he asked to put it short? Was he like the rest of the unit not taking it serious?

5.) No DL pressure at all. No pressure at all on this kid to throw. It didn’t matter who was playing along the line, absolutely nobody was around the qb. The only time they got pressure was the 3 times they blitzed, which is a crime also. Why not light this kid up blitzing all game?

6.) Piss poor tackling. Even the better players like Edwards were not wrapping up. Interior dl did nice against the inside run, but they were gashed left and right in outside runs.

7.) Hamlin was ok in the first half, but didn’t play in the 2nd. You can say he stunk, but his backups were worse. I hope he gets stronger in the offseason and can get back to corner where he belongs and feels most comfortable.

8.) Use of the qb. It’s a crime that Pickett is not getting into these games for even a series. I don’t think Ben lost the game, but he really wasn’t doing anything special in there that Pickett could not have done for a series or two. He needs to play at least 4 series a game for the last 2 games. He’s been taking backup reps for a month now, he knows the system, as horrible as it may be.

Clark was open down the seem many times. He wasn't first read so DiNucci didn't throw ball. You would think at some point in the game Clark would have been first read.

He was open for like 2 seconds till the bracket coverage came to double him up as well. Thankfully Nooch didn’t try to squeeze it in, as his arm isn’t strong enough and it would have been an int. As you said, why was it not relayed by the coaches to make Clark the 1st read? Why not throw more receivers into the patterns on rollouts to eliminate the double coverage?

And how do you know it wasn't?? Face it. When you have happy feet... you're gonna dance. He danced. Predictable outcome.

he was open at least three times in the first quarter with nobody within 10 yards of him..One time he was behind both guys guarding him and DiNucci didn't throw the ball.

Were you at the game? I watched the wr’s on all pass plays. I’d say 3 pass plays he missed open wr’s. Other than that...garbage calls, garbage routes or Jones-Smith playing RT like Mike Adams.

I was.

Open receivers on most routes for a window.

Windows closed when the ball wasn’t delivered on time or at all.

It’s why I enjoy the north club, watching plays develop.
Also how I knew we were in trouble as we couldn’t cover the UNC spread offense.

The announcers commented that Dinucci is a 1 read Qb. If his first read isn't open, he runs. Not sure the Oline is good enough to make multiple progressions and/or his arm is strong enough. He's a tough kid and is doing what he can, but there is probably a reason no other P5 showed interest in him.

That was a good observation on their part. Play Pickett.

Clearly some people dont know what "open" means... It does not mean running free and clear uncovered.

if a receiver makes a break on a slant route and the DB is behind him, THE WR IS OPEN.

If a TE is running a seam route and the LB/S is following him and the over-the-top safety is on the opposite hash, THE TE is open.

Is the RB is running a delayed route to he flat and LB/CB is not in press coverage, THE RB IS OPEN.

There were open receivers/TEs/RBs all night long. Dinucci simply takes too long to release the ball thus allowing defenses to recover and render the receivers no longer open.

Any out-route, slant, etc requires timing. the QB MUST release the ball before the break. Too many times, the WR's are 5-6 steps out of their break before the ball is released and almost always the pass is under thrown/behind the wide receiver.

Come on people, the receivers/TEs are not superstars but they are OPEN a lot more than many of you think. Having a QB with no concept of timing or internal clock simply magnifies the issue. Any have decent QB would be successful with this group of skill players.

There were guys open several times. DiNucci looks at one guy, then keeps looking, then runs.

He has no business throwing from the pocket, he lacks the confidence, arm strength, visibility, etc. He needs to role out where he can use his legs and he is more confident doing so.

North Carolina held Miami to like 59 rushing yards and Miami won by passing for 350 yards. I figured they would stop are run and make us pass because WE DO NOT HAVE A PASSING GAME! So, instead we run really well all night and when crunch time comes, down 3, 3 min left, 1st and 10 at the 50, we put in a 5 receiver set, no RB, and take a sack leaving 2nd and 19 The rest is history. This staff never fails to amaze me. Too damn egotistical and that goes for these players as well.

WR's were open all over the place. Go watch his first roll-out. The WR across the field was open for a TD on a broken coverage. On the second drive Clark wasn't even covered on 2nd down and was open for an easy TD. On 3rd down he was covered but beat his man to get open 20 yards down field the WR in the flat was also open. He threw the ball away on both plays.

If you think getting open means having nobody within 15 yards, that only happens with our D. Watch some non-Pitt games on TV. Every team in the country has QB's that throw passes to WR's that have a step on their CB's. Ours just stands there with a scared look on his face and than chucks it out bounds.

Teams seem to know that DiNucci won't throw unless its a dump off on a roll-out or a WR screen. On a couple of plays in the second half, Clark was open once again but didn't even look back for the ball. I guess he knows he has zero chance of getting targeted.

2 seconds is at least 10-15 yards. I'll take that.

Watson sucks, he might be the worst coordinator in America. The right side of the line has to be Hodges and Bookser, no offense to JJS but it's pointless to keep trying him out there. What's amazing is the things darrin hall is doing with a line that mostly gets eaten alive.

On top of Watson and poor o-line play though, DiNucci took a few steps back last night. The happy feet, too slow to make decisions, he's scared to mess up. The receivers are bad, but Clark and the running backs out of the backfield were open many times and he either threw it away, got sacked, or threw to them too late. The sack at midfield gave me flashbacks of tino getting sacked at the carrier dome in 2013 knocking us out of field goal range on the game's final drive.

Thats the problem right there dinucci is a one read QB, there were several plays were guys were open and he through it to a covered Wr. In college football if you have 4 guys out there running patterns 8 times out of 10 one is open, even pitts wr.

The defense was absolutely horrible in all phases. Poor run D, poor pass D and poor tackling

In this offense, really any pro style run based offense, you aren't going to have guys running around wide open unless you have amazing WR or the DB's are flat out awful. QB needs to throw them open and make NFL type of throws(smaller window throws although college isn't as tough). thats why these spread QB's often struggle in the NFL, they are used to guys being wide open, in pro style offenses that simply doesn't happen very often.

It’s pretty amazing that the majority of you can’t look past the QB. He was probably the least of the problems last night and he dominates the reply’s. This reminds me of the hockey boards I post on and everybody blames the goalie and ignores the rest of the breakdowns.

An adequate(average) QB can do good things with average players around him.
A good QB can do good or great things with average players around him.

DiNucci is neither good nor average.

This O-Line is not great, but good enough for any QB with half a sense of timing to do well.

These skills players are all average to decent (Everyone is D1 caliber in my mind, not Top 15 starting caliber, but still D1 caliber). Yet they are bound by the play of their QB. If he knew how to progress through his reads in game action and/or have a remotely decent feel for pressure he could make some throws that we all wish he could make.

So yeah, everyone is going to focus on him because the root of the offensive problem centers around the QB (when discussing PLAYERS of course).
