Steelers / Draft

I don't think these things are always on the money, but I don't love when a guy's motor is the best thing you can say about him.

Overview

Dense-framed, even-front defensive end whose game is built for power but not speed. He has short arms and slow power to neutralize and overcome run blocks. However, he lacks a quick-win first step or twitchy stack-and-shed move. He locates the football and racks up tackles when runners near his gaps. He’s a force-based rusher using strong hands, a relentless motor and a pocket-caving charge to run up pressure totals, but his rush lacks quickness. He could see more interior rush opportunities for shorter trips into the pocket. Sawyer is suited for box-based football, which could cap his pro ceiling, but his demeanor, toughness and activity level provide a higher floor.
Yep. First thing Austin talked about were his intangibles. When that’s all you have, then what do you really have? Pickett detractors will tell you that. lol.

Man, I can't help but to feel that the Steelers ****ed this up. They have so many picks next year that giving up a 4th next year to move up in and get the QB with the highest completion percentage in NCAA history just feels crazy when they need a QB.

Totally understand that take, but this franchise feels like it's at a bit of a crossroads and dangerously close to becoming a clown show. I can't fault them if he was off their board.

yeah, but even if it doesn't work out they could have traded him in week 6 for a 6th or 7th round pick. Someone would have taken that. So then you lose a 4th and 5th round pick in return for a possible lottery ticket and a 6/7th round pick.

And then they still would have like 5 picks in the first 4 rounds next season.

I don't hate the pick, but I might have went DL, DB, or WR. Seems like another pass rushing specialist, a la Herbig, as I doubt he's going to hold the edge at the next level.
I know you watch college fb. #33 lined up against tackles and TE’s that are/were pro rated. Curious how you have doubts about holding edges. What Oregon or Michigan or PSU OL swallowed him whole? I think he’s a baller at any level.

Yeah he seemed pretty productive and an instinctive player

Why. He has to compete to win the job. As long as he gets a fair shot he has nothing to complain about.
He’s not going to. I don’t think it will end well for him there. There just isn’t enough reps to go around. I think him and sanders get the lions share, and then the browns have to decide fast who they want to commit to. Lots of pressure for Deion Jr to get those reps. Nobody there wants Kenny. He has no gravitas after what happened in Pittsburgh.

So you think Sanders gets more share than Gabriel? I’m not saying you’re wrong, it’s just a bazaar situation.

Ya think they may have watched the Super Bowl? Front 7 draft.
Was thinking the same thing. They are building up the rest of the team before they get their Qb. Still think they should have traded Minka and TJ Clearly with the Qb situation as it stands now they are not contenders next year.

Well watt is UFA after the season
So perhaps trade interest for a pending UFA 31 year old is pretty low ?

So instead we paid Jaylen Warren $5mil up from $897k last year
And gainwell for $1.7mil
Well one was a decision made almost a year ago, with the information available at the time. A decision that apparently was correct because Najee ended up signing a 1-year deal for $1.6 million less than his option was.

Also, they didn't just sign Warren to a $5 million contract. He was an RFA and given a 2nd round tender, likely looking for a second round pick instead of Warren or hoping to match a lower offer given by another team. They gambled and lost, but they clearly were willing to spend $1-1.5 million more than he's worth for the chance at a 2nd round pick or locking him up for a few years for less than $5 million per year.
