Towson Game & Other Dribbles ...

That lineup, Femi-Burton-Santos-Jeffress, is actually the lineup that was used in the final 5 minutes against Towson. That is the lineup that ultimately won the game and put the game away when we were losing by 3. Collier was the center.
Because Collier did well
against mighty Townson,
I hope you're not suggesting
he play instead of Hugley.

Im not suggesting that.

I am suggesting these 4 as a combination Femi-Burton-Santos-Jeffress on the floor. The way the offense was executed,, Amadasun could have finished those plays that Collier made. It wouldnt have mattered who the center was.

Hugley will start next game.

Read the game sequences I posted if you missed it.

I didn't miss it. I usually
watch more than a one
time out before I make a
judgement. Collier's body
of work doesn't give me
a lot of hope. The other
four I accept.

I originally wasn't sure of
either Burton and Santos.
All of my pre season comments
basically said, I'll wait until
I see them on the floor in
real game time situations.
Now that I have, you've
probably noticed that I
now have been posting
positively about them.

Box Score BPM's for the first 4 games. I have not even looked at these stats until now. Anyway, the BPM is used to determine who is actually contributing in a teams win or loss by looking at the whole of individual production.

Pretty interesting looking at this. Mo Gueye has been really bad, meaning Terrell Brown level bad of what Brown looked like last year. And this further highlights just how bad. He had to go back to New York to deal with a personal issue, perhaps a death of someone close to him, so Ill give him a pass for now. But if he continues down this path, he cant be playing any more. Oladapo is the only Pitt player that has been in the positive every single game. He needs a minute increase already. Santos has made steady improvement for the better every single game. Hugley has been a consistent significant net positive except last game.

Gueye, I think, has played himself out of the starting spot at the 4 and solidly into “backup 5, defensive specialist” territory. That’s both because of his play and because of what Oladapo and Collier have brought to the table in the early going.

Collier, the early going? He had one good game (stretch).

If this team fixes the turnovers, just 1 thing, turnovers, it will win some games this year even with the current roster.

People, and I don't mean you, simply do not like to look at actual advanced statistics.

Our team is shooting 45% from the field this year. That is the highest FG team shooting percentage of any Pitt team currently going all the way back to the last time Pitt was in the NCAA Tournament under Dixon. Even without 3 point shooters, we are still converting just fine in our overall team field goal shooting percentage through 4 games for a young team. Our team shot 58% from the field on the road against West Virginia.

The problem is turnovers. We rank 338th in the country in turnover rate. The lack of guards on top of bad decision making is killing this team. Our own turnovers are killing our own offensive possessions while giving the opposing team free layups and dunks in transition every game.

Its very simple. Stop turning the ball over.
Yes we have a good FG shooting % and yes we have a terrible turnover rate. But just like turnovers, we rank near the bottom in FT % and 3-pt shooting %.

If we can clean up the turnovers and get more shooting opportunities, I’m skeptical our shooting % will stay where it is.

You honestly make reactions after a couple games for a young pg who had limited to zero talent around.

He has not played well at all.
I don't react to a few games.
Just stop dude, you don’t have to always try to be mr Genius 😂Femi will not be playing basketball anywhere after college and if this program wasn’t the dumpster fire it is he wouldn’t even be here

Ok great prognosticator. Maybe you'll be right.
That's why the future exists.
I don't know much. But i can tell you're a great guy.

Oh here we go, the “top posters”
On this board are the character police because a guy they wouldn’t know if he passed them on the street doesn’t agree with his shitty basketball takes 😂😂😂😂😂😂 I actually am a great guy with a much better jumper than Mr Femi

I think our offensive efficiency as a team will improve significantly as the season moves forward just like it did last year. Its the defense and rebounding holding up throughout the season which I am concerned about.

And here are my reasons why.

1) We have 2 players on the current roster today that actually were rotation players on last years team. Femi and Will, that's it. And Will was 17 years old last year. We had more roster turnover with the players leaving, injuries and suspensions than almost anybody in all of division 1 basketball. This is a brand new roster and team starting from scratch.

2) This is a learning process. As more games are played and stats are accumulated, roles are going to be adjusted by the coaches based off the stats and what players prove they can actually do in live games. The backup walkon point guard isn't playing any more because he has by far the worst stats on the team for example. And Burton is back

3) This team is insanely young. We are basically starting 4 freshmen with Femi, Will, Nate, and Big John as all these players get the covid year back. There aren't many more inexperienced teams than that in all of division 1 basketball. Jeffress just turned 18 years old some months ago.

4) As Burton heals from injury, he will play better on offense and defense as the season moves forward. He just came back from injury and wasn't even practicing with the team for over a month.

5) Femi already proved he can play at a pretty good level last year. I fully expect him to be much better as they season moves forward and he starts building chemistry with Burton

6) I see real growth from Jeffress. More than I anticipated preseason. He is starting to get it.

7) Nate is still the biggest wild card, the same thing I said preseason. If Nate continues making 3's and opens up the paint and driving lane, our offense is going to improve a lot faster than you think with just 1 legit outside shooter. Nate is a giant key right now for this team.
