Are we still recruiting Thomas and Njie?

Any chance at Ayomide or Kepnang?

Good post. I just had this silly thought. If instead of paying all of this buyout money donors invest it in the newly formed NIL organization we might be more attractive to some transfer options and we might not have to hire a new coach. Capel seems to know how to develop post players better than guards ( which is weird since he was a guard). Anyway I am slightly encouraged by the players we are getting for visits.

Only guys who dont have more than a year left. Possibly a guy like Akok who can play in 23-24 but will be 23 in October and could leave to go make money in the Basketball Africa League.

Hinson, Fredrico, and the twins.
I would not call the twins a lock by any means with if UMass is really recruiting them hard, Frank Martin lurking. Not only has Frank always been a bag man, he’s got job security, it’s the only other school that both of them are visiting, and maybe most importantly, he’s the son of Miami Cuban immigrants (his actual name is Francisco Martín) and equally fluent in Spanish as he is in English.

Listen, those kids might go to UMass, I couldn’t know less about them. But if we lose them to UMass because of a bag? Shut down the program

Where's the bag going to come from on Pitt’s end? Boosters? Staff's own money?

I don't think very much money is going to be invested in Pitt basketball this year. I think all parties are probably in conserve mode to just ride this thing out for one more year.

Lol, the same place it always comes from when it’s not boosters. UMass assistants don’t make more money than Pitt’s. It’s not coming down to a bag.

There aren't many assistants willing to pony up their own money for players.

Pitt's staff would be beyond insane to even attempt to do something shady for a recruit at this stage in the game. Stay clean, ride it out and do nothing that could affect a buyout or future employment.

Been saying this for awhile , way cheaper to buy a few players then change coaches !

Doubt the assistants work on long term deals .

I'm not saying it never happens. Some of these guys are desperate to sign players and make their mark. But let's just say that any assistant using their own money to influence recruits is either inexperienced, a total fool, or has a really shitty job. Most of these guys aren't even making 300K a year.

Yes, they started handing out 600k, 500k, million dollar contracts to assistants when NIL (the bigger illegal bags just started) out of the goodness of their hearts. We all know universities love departing with their money. Don’t be so naive bruh

Most all the money that assistants throw around to handlers and families come from boosters. That's what I'm saying. They aren't using their own money. If they are, they work for a shitty basketball school.

Lol that’s not how it works anymore. Game has changed. That’s why the schools are giving the assistants more money. It’s going straight in their top recruits pockets

Sounds like a great plan pay the assistants more taxable money so they can hand out after tax money to recruits .

Any idea how the visits went this weekend? We have Meechie and Akok coming this week and the Diaz twins on the weekend if I’m correct.

That doesn't make sense though. I don't see how that is going to remain sustainable in the era of the NIL. Even at a school like UK that goes balls out when it comes to recruiting and spending, the assistants aren't topping $1 mil. They are competing for top recruits with a lot of roster turnover annually. That's asking way too much to have an assistant only making 6 figures a year to depart with 100 or 200K annually to sign players. I don't know that there is a lot you can do with that small amount at a school like UK anyway. I don't see how that small amount is enough to move the needle if you are competing for elite recruits.

Yeah, handlers, parents AAU coaches, they’re tapping into that taxable NIL money the kids are getting so bags don’t exist anymore.

The salaries got bigger because the bags needed to start coming from assistants. No other reason

It's not Capel developing the post players, it's one of his assistants.
