Damar with Remarkable Improvement

This is very encouraging news. “Appears to be neurologically intact.”

I suspect that they had him under therapeutic hypothermia protocol to decrease brain anoxic injury(cooled his brain to decrease brain death). Lung injury probably from aspiration I would guess.

I am in awe of the outpouring of support for Damar and the Hamlin family. It’s unfortunate that it takes events like this to convey the incredibly positive figures in society like Damar Hamlin.

Kept waiting…..

For Nellie to step up and take over but he never did. Credit Clemson for being a fundamentally sound team and clamping down on him. But Pitt could have won anyway but Nellie had two bad decisions. One to try an off balance pass from the left lane to the right sideline which failed and again his attempt to lob it to Fede at the end.

So on to Duke and pick it back up.

Capel

I have given Capel all the praise in the world the last three games and during todays game. But a great coach calls a rumor out the second to last offensive possession to set up a play. Instead Burton goes into a big guy and turns it over. That’s a coaches responsibility in important game situations to gather the troops and create a higher percentage play. Elliot’s shot was fine. But didn’t matter at all.

It’s hard to blame Capel for this loss. We are on a roll, we were preparead, we adjusted, team chemistry is good. But that one crucial decision not to call a timeout and set up a play likely cost us a huge win.

I have discovered the secret behind our resurgence

Here’s one way to distract yourself from today’s loss: Fede Federiko is the first Pitt basketball player with such a surname (of various spelling) since McKee’s Rocks’ Gino Federico in the 2001-02 season. Like Federiko, Federico joined the team as a sophomore and was part of the first Pitt basketball team to reach the NCAA Tournament since 1993. Is it just a coincidence that we happen to be on the path towards our first birth since 2016?

Coach Capel, if you’re reading this, we need to recruit more players with the last name Federiko!!

4 star Jamari Johnson, Pitt final 4 and

here is the Oregon article on it, and I would think they are out from this report.

He is currently pledged to Louisville, so sounds like them us and Cincy are him final three. From my experience when a kid says a visit was "pretty cool" the kid usually doesnt go there. Not sure what he said about the Pitt visit, maybe Chris could shed light, but obviously he would be a big get.

Clemson Gameplan

What do you guys think we need to do tomorrow to bring home a W? I know. Score more points. But how?? Clemson is an old team that can shoot it and they are connected defensively.

I think we need to attack the paint all game with Burton, Nelly and Hinson. I think we need to get out in transition and use the secondary break. We must run them off the three point line. Even Hall. Watch the back cuts. No foul trouble. Get them into foul trouble by driving.

I don't know. What do you guys think?

Good story on how focused this team is…

I met Jamarius Burton last night at Gussy’s Bagels. If you haven’t been to Gussy’s yet, they do excellent bagels/sandwiches and they are starting to make killer NYC style pizzas in the evenings. Anyway, Jamarius & I were talking a lot about the team and how excited the fans are staring to get again. And the owner of Gussy’s asked him who they play next week after Clemson. Jamarius had no idea who was next on the schedule. He didn’t know that the next game after Clemson is in Cameron Indoor on Wednesday to play the premier program in all of college basketball the Duke Blue Devils. He said “all we care about is Clemson, one game at a time.” I loved it!! This team is focused, they know this season has a chance to be a special one. Big game tonight, lets go Pitt!!

Hamlin's fundraiser

Donating to this gave me something tangible to do instead of sit here and sob.

Fundraiser he did in 2020 to give kids in McKees Rocks Christmas presents. Goal was $2,500. No idea how much he got originally, but when I clicked on it, it was at $245k. It's at $390k now.
