Syracuse Women Beat Pitt

After a very good 2n'd Qtr
we fell apart in the 2nd
half ( we led at the half
39-33). You might say
Cuse suddenly came alive
and scored 24, and 32.
56 pts in a half? All you
have to do is watch our
D, or lack thereof, and
also how White subs at
crucial times.

Despite incredible outside
shooting in the 2nd half,
we never adjusted our
zone. Cuse just shot over
it or got in the lane and
scored. Best player on
the floor Dy Fair, scored
22 2nd half pts, We did
nothing to stop her. How
about a Box and 1 (Bball
101). Has White ever even
heard of that? If not that,
SOMETHING!

Last game we discussed
White's subbing patterns.
4th Qtr with five plus min
remaining we actually got
back in it. Then he took out
King, and went with the
three frosh, Hutcherson,
and Brown. Malcolm had
two passes go right through
her hands. Yes, she can hit
open threes, but she's a
liability on D. We did not
need the three frosh on the
floor at this point, with King,
Johnson, Davis and Harris
all on the bench. Of course
Cuse then went for a game
ending 32 pts in the Qtr.
Cuse is better than we are,
but they're not great. We
actually were in it and I
thought had a chance. Oh
well, stupid me.

Keys to Victory

1) Don’t trap or apply full court or half court pressure. They will throw the ball over and through the zone trap for easy 3’s.

2) Play man defense the whole time. Really emphasize to the wing players to not help on drives. Oak help today. Stay out near the permitter guy. Don’t focus on the driver with your eye. Once you turn your head your perimeter guy will relocate to the corner and you won’t recover to get a hand ok his face. Let Fede protect the rim. Or they will just drive and kick.

3) Get the ball on offense and just go and try to create fast break points. Speed them up. It will tire them out and hopefully that will affect their three point efficiency near the end of the game when it counts.

4) Everyone follow their shot and 4 guys should attack the offensive glass on every one of our shots. They are a bad rebounding team and they don’t like to fast break at all anyway so we don’t have to have more than one guy getting back or not worrying about offensive rebounding on all of our shots.

I think they are very well coached. I would have loved to have their coach when we had openings. He reminds me of Viginia and Tony Bennet. We need to take advantage where they’re weak today. And I think if we hit the keys in this post we win.

I won’t be able to watch the game today because my son has his JV game at the same time. So I will be looking to the Pitt thread on here for updates during breaks in my sons games. Go Pitt!!!

Updated Lunardi Bracketology ...

Well ... we are IN!!

But it's a little weird actually. Lunardi has us listed as an 11-seed Auto Qualifier in Denver. His last four in are 10 seeds and 11 seeds. So basically, what he's suggesting is that we would NOT be in as an at-large at this point. Accordingly, we can't know if this means we would actually be on the first four out or next four out.

Nonetheless, it's great to see our name here once again!

11 seed

Why Slovis won the job in camp over Patti

The conversation posted today with Nick Patti cause me to go back and ponder the question of why Slovis won the job in camp and here's a thought to consider.

Most of us would agree that Slovis has the better arm, and throws the better ball, but his real problem was that he was slow in processing coverage once the play was underway,, and he was very slow in reacting to pressure in the pocket. But those are the types of deficiencies that may not be so apparent in a camp setting, because we have to remember, the quarterback is never "live "in camp, even during scrimmages. Instead, whenever there is any defensive pressure on the quarterback, even in a scrimmage, the coaches blow the whistle and the play is over.. In other words, Slovis was never being evaluated under true game conditions, and it was in those conditions, frankly, where he tended to wilt, and the contrast with Patti became most apparent. So in short, he looks prettier and better throwing the ball, but Patti under real game pressure reads defenses quicker and certainly reacts to pocket pressure more quickly.

A final word. That might explain why Slovis won the job in camp, but it does not explain why he was not replaced at halftime in the Louisville game because by that point of the season his deficiencies were known.

PITT and QB's....

I read an article this morning from The Athletic about how important it was for Notre Dame to land Sam Hartman. They also laid out ND's QB room. It was really the first time I ever saw how loaded it is. WHY did Minchey flip? I completely understand the lure of ND and its campus, etc. But what was he thinking?

And it can't just be about Cignettic because the ND offensive coordinator has been there 7 years and has had QB struggles the whole time. Was it NIL? I just don't get it.

This is behind a paywall.

Clemson has Pitt’s Number

I keep seeing things like this. It’s a bunch a crap. How many of our current players have ever even played against Clemson once. It’s a home game. We are playing better than we have in at least 8 years.

Stop saying Clemson has our number. I feel very strongly we can beat this Clemson team. And if we do I would call it a great win. And be happy. But maybe for the first time in a while we can win these types of games. We can beat this team.

There is no number or whatever they have on us!!!

Recruiting Update Another transfer visiting this weekend

And it's another Gator.

We've confirmed that Florida cornerback Jordan Young will be on campus for a visit. He was a four-star recruit in the class of 2021 and he redshirted as a freshman, so he'll be a redshirt sophomore in the 2023 season with three years of eligibility. Young appeared in 10 games this season and played about 70 snaps on defense. He recorded 10 tackles, allowed one reception and blocked a kick.

Young is one of several former Florida players who will be on campus this weekend, along with receiver Daejon Reynolds and safety Donovan McMillon. McMillon, of course, is already committed to Pitt as a transfer, but he'll be around this weekend to work on getting Reynolds and Young to join him.

OT: the guy that killed those Idaho students

Appears to be one of those "incel" type people. These guys are disturbing and we've seen several mass random killings over the years by these types of people.

Fund Raising. I am sorry but I have to say this...

First of all I am really happy Damar Hamlin is recovering. Not sure what the long term ramifications are, but it looks at least like he is going to have a normal life. Which is fantastic. And he is a great guy, a pillar of the community. And his toys for under privileged children now approaching almost $10 million is amazing.

But locally, a cop was shot and killed by a 5 time criminal loser. He is gone. No recovery. He has a family, a wife and a couple of kids. He has a go fund me page, it has raised 33,000 so far. I didn't give to Damar's charity, I gave it to Justin McIntire's family. At this point, I think they can use a few more thousand dollars than the millions that Damar's charity is getting. It has kind of overshadowed this terrible tragedy.

So if tou are feeling magnanimous and charitable, perhaps you may want to donate to this family in grief. It is a real tragedy. A senseless tragedy and a reminder of what our first responders face every day.
