Seeking clarity

Went a little meta on that thread title, but merely seeking to hear from @Chris Peak and @JimHammett if we think that Reynolds committed to Pitt, and whether anybody else did over the weekend. Chris indicated he thinks Davis did commit, so Ive got him penciled in, but that comment also got washed away in the global politics tide of that thread yesterday.

Just looking for the skinny. It’s Monday, I’ve got 3 sick kids and maybe 4 based on an “my stomach hurts too” after breakfast! Hoping that one is just FOMO about staying home from school!

Damar Hamlin BREAKING: New Contract Arrangement with Buffalo Bills, NFL

"The Bills and the NFL just made a contractual gesture that is a continuation of the outpouring of love in the direction of Damar Hamlin.

Sometimes, it's OK to bend the rules.

Hamlin, who suffered a cardiac arrest on Monday and has spent the week fighting for his life, has a contract that contains a standard "split'' clause designed to pay him at a lower rate.

But in light of his situation, the four-year $3.64 million agreement has been subjected to an adjustment, so despite the fact that he was placed on IR this week, Buffalo has (per NFL Network) worked out an agreement with the NFL and NFLPA to pay him in full."

PAT SIGNAL theory

Allow me to go Sherlock Holmes here.

I think both players committed today and Duzz only tweeted one PAT signal

You’ll notice in todays post Duzz used 2 exclamation points as well as 2 squares

And I don’t think Karlo is tweeting this without securing both commits

I could be totally off - and I have no insider info. Just a hunch (since you guys hijacked my other thread you get ANOTHER one)

Clemson Thoughts

That is ten in a row in the series, sometimes these things just can't be explained. Thought they would flip that this year, but the streak continues.

To me, no shame in that yesterday. It is frustrating to blow that kind of lead in the second half, but they also came back from a significant deficit against a good team again. That was a big time game between two good teams. That is it. Could have gone either way. WIll say that this team cannot afford to get down early like they have. Not a good trend. Feel like they are just a bit excited and settle for outside shots a bit too much off the tip.

Just too many missed free throws, especially from Blake. Also, the poor lob from Nelly really hurt. That was an easy two points on that possession and could have ended the game. You never know but it would have been nice to find out.

Jamarius is REALLY good. You don't often see players of his age take big jumps like this. But he has and all credit to him. What we are seeing from him this year is historical type stuff in this program. There have not been many players in this program that performed like this in conference play. Just an incredible level right now.

Blake is a really talented player, but he has to make some better decisions. They cannot afford for him to be in foul trouble, and just too many careless decisions. He probably got away with a couple of fouls as well. Nate filled in and was fine, but they needed one of those threes so badly.

This team was not going to run the table. We didn't think they would be 4-1. So now the test is to rebound and move on to the next one. This is what happens in conference play. Being able to move on and not letting one loss turn into two is crucial. There is no reason this team can't beat Duke.

OT: Pitt Hockey

As someone who grew up playing hockey and being 28 and seeing how much it has grown in the area since I was playing is awesome to see and it would be awesome to see Pitt have an NCAA team in say Hockey East.

Seeing Penn State get a startup and Arizona State now I think it is something that should happen.

Get a big donor and try and partner with the Pens. Sell only the lower bowl and use the black curtains to curtain off the upper deck.

A Pitt team could creat a “bean pot” type of tournament with locals: Pitt, Penn State, RMU, and Mercyhurst.

Welcome to Wrexham

Has anyone watched this? I'm not a huge fan of sports documentaries so I reluctantly decided to watch it and it was honestly one of the best things I've watched in a long time. I'm sure you all know the story by now but they did an unbelievable, first-rate job of storytelling. A million times better than Sunderland Till I Die, which I gave up after the 5th episode or so.

BTW, Wrexham is the lowest team left in the FA Cup. They play Coventry City from the Championship in the Round of 32 on Saturday. It would be incredible to see them play a Big 6 club in the Round of 16.

Recruiting Update Transfer visitor update (Sun. AM)

It's going to take some time to unpack exactly what we saw this weekend in terms of visitors. Guys were visiting, then they weren't, then they maybe were, then they showed up (or maybe they didn't). And this isn't just a product of incomplete information from the outside; a bunch of people in around the Pitt football program have said that this five-day visit period - Jan. 4-8 - has been pretty crazy and hectic as transfers who plan to enroll midyear scramble to see as much as they can during the short window.

As such, I've confirmed two visitors for this weekend:

Florida WR Daejon Reynolds and LSU DB/RB Derrick Davis. They were both here. We know that for certain. I'm still working to figure out who else came to town. There might have been one or two more, but things changed so quickly and so often that it was tough to track (to the point where even the Pitt staff took the approach of "We'll know for sure that they're visiting when they actually get here"). I'm sure some more info will break through today, and we'll see what comes out. But this has been quite a weekend.

Projected Record

Just looking over the remaining schedule my prediction is we will finish with 19 wins and 11 ACC wins. Just glancing without an in-depth analysis of all the remaining opponents and their team stats and how we match up with each team.

Which puts us on the bubble for the NCAA tourney. Whether that plays out like that who knows. But if is exciting to think this far into the season we have a chance. It’s been what seems like way too long.

Instant analysis: Pitt 30, Illinois 6

Outstanding performance by Pitt. This was the best I have seen them in years. Top to bottom, everyone looked good, at least for portions of their matches.

125-Camacho is turning into the guy we hoped he would be at 125.

133-Micky did exactly what Gavin said he needed to do to beat Byrd – get hand control and escape when he got to his feet.

141-Matthews still scoring with defense; needs to develop more offense

149-Badgett great rideout in 2nd won him the match

157-Casto with a slower start than Maryland/Lehigh matches but much better finish

165-Holden Heller with great start but gave up three takdowns in 3rd/SV to lose

174-Luca was right with Ruth but got caught flat-footed in OT for easy Ruth double. He’s almost there, but not quite to level of top 10 guys yet.

184-Solid win, if not flashy for Reece

197-Toughest match Nino has had; Braunagle’s defense gave him fits, but battled through it and got OT takedown

285-Slinger is quietly putting together some solid performances this season. Much improved from last year.
