40 million a year

The standard is the standard.

I kinda like that the fanbase doesn’t accept mediocrity. Except some of you do. Sad.

Beside Art Rooney Jr’s picture in the encyclopedia is the word complacent. I can’t think of a more unflattering word for someone who runs a business, other than the word corrupt.
There is absolutely zero in your post to backup your claim that the franchise is considered a joke or to refute that the only place where it may even remotely be considered one is in Pittsburgh.

Aside from chronic mediocrity, what is it about the Steelers over the past decade that makes you feel so blessed?

Russ will be looking for a big chunk on his last chance of a big contract. No thanks.

I'd rather roll he dice on a Daniel Jones for 1/2 of what Fields will want and sign another offensive player with the difference.

What team is paying Fields anything over a minimum contract?

You are just a troll. You might be one of Tomlin's sons. This franchise and team suck. You can't be a real Steeler fan and be satisfied with the product in its current form. Maybe being a Pitt fan has made you acquiesce to mediocrity. Trust me, it's OK to expect more out of one of the most respected franchises in all of sports. Real fans and even the Pittsburgh media have grown tired of Tomlin's BS! However, just like You, the national media still loves the slick talking 500 coach.
I don’t see a difference between a 7-5 Pitt team and a 9-8/10-7 steeler team.

Neither one provides any hope of contending for a title.

And this steeler team might finish the season on a 6 game losing streak. Sound familiar to anyone?

The pirates sell the fanbase on 5 year plans. If we apply that to the Steelers, we are wrapping up a 2nd straight 5 year plan and soon will be embarking on a 3rd. Nothing special about that that has other fanbases green with envy.

I can't even imagine what Darnold would look like running this offense. Currently he has probably the top receiver set to throw to in Jefferson, Addison, and Hockenson. Give him Pickens, Austin, and Friermuth with the Steelers pass blocking and you have a bottom 10 starter in this league. It wouldn't even be fair to blame it on Arthur Smith. This team has very little offensive talent and their best piece has a ten cent head if he is lucky. This team is a disaster when you compare any position group to some of the NFL's best, but, nowhere is the discrepancy more profound than at receiver.
more stats i hear about Smith, the more i think it's on him. Was listening to the fan this morning and our Rbs are averaging under 2 yards a rush when we have that dumb 13 personnel (3 tight ends). and it sucks cause he runs a lot of 13 and even 14 personnel. so it doesnt work, it's obvious we are gonna run from it and well, we cant run out of it..

Darnold had great year but you are correct, you cant discount the fact he had Jefferson and Addison, and a good tight end.

Shall we be complacent and rest because of the teams history? How many franchises have won playoff games since the Steelers last truly contended?
This is the big point here.

Jets, Giants, Colts possibly, they may even wants some competition in Seattle??

I know a lot of teams tend to do silly things, but that's silly. He's a bottom half of the league back-up QB, who was mistakenly taken in the 1st round.

bottom 1/2 of the league qbs are making 25m. the only ones that arent are terrible backups or on their Rookie contract.

33M annual contract today gets you as the 19th highest paid QB in the league.. it makes no sense but the market for QBs in the nfl is out of whack. yeah, these guys all make too much but especially QB, its completely out of balance with the salary cap and common sense.

Are the Vikings a great franchise? The Steelers have two more wins over the last decade and have won just as many playoff games. By the time February rolls around, the Vikings may actually be ahead of the Steelers.

Solid point. Would love to hear someone tell us how Vikings fans are worse off than Steelers fans. Heck, they even figured out a way to build a world class stadium, while here we have a glorified erector set.

Which is why you don't spend anywhere close to that amount on Wilson or Fields.

Wilson is playing at a Kirk Cousins level. That is going to get him cut. They might as well sign Cousins for $2mil after the Falcons cut him. Or Carson Wentz for that matter.

Basically, you are pointing out how the stillers f'ed themselves at the position. They need to add another young QB early in the draft, again.

Ok, I don’t necessarily disagree but what is your solution.

I’m all ears.

Again, not saying you are wrong but you need a few qbs next year. Where do u find them.

The Vikings are a great comparison to the Steelers. So are the Ravens. They are perhaps the most consistently good franchises in the NFL. It’s just too bad Gary Anderson missed the biggest kick of his life.

This is the solution I suggested every year for the past 5.

Trade TJ and Minkah for picks. Package those picks to move up for a top QB.

You aren’t getting much for either.

One is in the wrong side iof 30 on his last in a contract year and minkah hasn’t had a splash play since people still believed China virus was real.

I’m not going down the political road, but you are damn fool if you don’t think Covid is real. It swept through our family over Christmas and it’s still lingering. It’s a SOB.

I never said I was/am blessed or overly happy with the Steelers performance or results, only that, IMHO, your take of calling them a joke of a franchise is completely moronic and so far from reality. Well within reason to be critical of them but no need to go all out stupid about it.

I think he's closer to what's going to happen with regards to Fields than you think. He's a talented player that has been shackled by two franchises who would screw up John Elway.

No need to be critical. Ever hear of hyperbole? I mean, yeah, they aren’t the Jets or Browns.

That said there have been decisions with the business that have been a joke, And Rooney’s complacency is a joke.

And for anyone over the past decade who goes into the season thinking the Steelers can contend…well the jokes on them.

5 years in, he is going to be a career 61% passer. He compounds that problem by being an incredibly slow decision maker. Tough to imagine either of those parts of his game improving dramatically.

If the stillers sign him for a minimal salary, they be the same .500ish team as they are with Wilson. If that's the choice, I keep Fields and draft his replacement.

I doubt it is 40. Depending how the next 2 games plays out the top offer should be 2 years, 65 million.
I would pay this for Wilson, or even more, Fields is a lesser version of Kordell, let him walk, and if you need to, SPEND WAY WAY WAY LESS ON DEFENSE, spend it all on WRs, OL and QB. then hopefully get into position to draft a QB in the next couple years. But Rooneys and Tomlin are STUPID, they're SO DUMB that they seriously believe running the ball and playing defense is a championship formula :), so they'll go cheap and sign Fields and a few more LBs :)

And yet they both still made the pro bowl...... somebody would give up 2 first rounders for Watt easily. Steelers will never let him retire in another jersey though so pipe dream. Could you imagine if he went elsewhere and won a Superbowl?

if someone gives us 2 first rd picks for TJ Watt and we dont do it, im going down to the North Shore and breaking into the building and putting a straight jacket on Omar and driving him to western psych and admitting him myself.
