Well, I would say that Fields is stronger and faster and younger with a better arm. When it comes to reading defenses though, they are the same guy.
Good pointWell, I would say that Fields is stronger and faster and younger with a better arm. When it comes to reading defenses though, they are the same guy.
What other choice do they have? Bring in Jamie's Winston? Steelers play in a division with Burrow and Jackson. They will be at a competitive disadvantage at that position no matter who they get. They just kissed Ben's 🫏 for so long that they failed to properly plan for his departure. Tomlin will always be a defensive minded coach and A. Smith is a far better option than Canada, but still in a similar mold. What is worse? Do you want Wilson 40yr or Fields 30yr. Do we want to be the next Cleveland or Atlanta that locks up a bunch of money in a QB that doesn’t move the needle
I just think the QB position is vastly under coached and over scrutinized in the NFL.Which got him a 155 ypg passing average for his career.
These guys are 6 in one hand, half dozen in the other. Fields will parlay the few games he won with the Steelers into a decent contract though.
I know. I wish I could have been a lifelong fan of the Buffalo Bills instead. It’s all about making AFC title games!Don't hit me with that scrap. Cowher made 6 AFC title games in 15 years. That is what I call superbowl relevant. Granted he didn't win that many, but, he made it there. They have not been to an AFC title game since 2016 and they haven't won a single playoff game since that year. That is what I call irrelevant. You must be another one who is super pleased with a 500 or just better record and maybe a 1st round playoff spanking. As the years pass this team continues to move away from the standard of excellence which was developed under Noll and Cowher and has moved to a standard of mediocrity under Tomlin.
Yeah but then Tomlin's non losing season would be in jeopardy. Can't have that.I'd just have a dude on a rookie contract playing QB every season. If you hit the Mahomes/Allen sweepstakes then obviously you have to pay them. But paying guys like Hurts, Prescott, Cousins, Jones, etc. what they're making? My goodness no.
That said, I'm sure they can maneuver some money to make $40M a teardrop in the ocean.
Arthur Smith would have him revert back to rookie Darnold.Sign darnold. Let Russell go
Maybe for a 1 year deal, but not 2+. I'd go in with something like 3 years, $80 million with $35 in years one and 2 and only a $10 cap hit in year 3. If he is still viable after year 2, you can renegotiate year 3, but if he isn't, it won't cost you much to cut him. This is the projectes price for Russell Wilson. Will Rooney pony up the money to keep him, or roll the dice with Fields and possibly a draft pick?
The standard is the standard.Pittsburgh is more than likely the only place in this universe that franchise is considered a joke.
Shall we be complacent and rest because of the teams history? How many franchises have won playoff games since the Steelers last truly contended?I can think of 27-28 fanbases that could only dream of rooting for a franchise like the Steelers.
the pirates had a legit world championship contender more recently than the Steelers. Let that sink in.It's hilarious that in a town with Pitt and the Pirates, someone would consider the Steelers a joke.
Lol! You need real help. They never made it to the top, true. Being the 2nd place team in the league for 4 straight seasons is an accomplishment. I guess for you it's about being a 500 team in a league full of 500 or worse teams. For you, it's also about playing 3 top teams in a row and not being competitive in any of the 3 games. Tomlin is great. Not a single playoff win in 9 years. Now that is a great accomplishment for a once proud team.I know. I wish I could have been a lifelong fan of the Buffalo Bills instead. It’s all about making AFC title games!
What does Pittsburghs Super Bowl trophies of the distant past and Buffalo’s empty trophy case have to do with today? Hint: nothing.I know. I wish I could have been a lifelong fan of the Buffalo Bills instead. It’s all about making AFC title games!
The Steelers have been hovering within a game or two of .500 for years…which is how the league designs it. It’s the epitome of mediocre. Shocking that people accept that and revel in it.Lol! You better get Jefferson, Addison, their Oline and Kevin O'Connell in that deal. If not, you're just dreaming in color thinking Darnold is going to replicate this years season.Sign darnold. Let Russell go
Well, maybe a little. Beebaah has referenced watching Pitt as a kid as one of the reasons he loves Pitt. But your point is correct for the most part.the pirates had a legit world championship contender more recently than the Steelers. Let that sink in.
The only history that is relevant in sports is recent history. There is nothing transferable from something that happened 10-40 years ago. Look at Pitt hoops and Jamie Dixon. Is there anything that happened from 2003-2011 that has anything to do with either of them today?
it's all tomlin fans have going for them. you cant take that away. That is why this 500 record shit with Tomlin needs to stop. Tank a few years and get some players that can move the needle. You aint getting no Joe Burrow or Justin Jefferson with the 18th to 22nd pick in the 1st round. All the 500 record does is drag this franchise down.
Yay! My team won a playoff game in 2019! I can tell you that since the Steelers last won a playoff game, the Broncos have not lost a playoff game. The Falcons still haven't won a Super Bowl. In fact, since 1980, the Stillers have won as many Super Bowls as the rest of the teams in the AFC North have won combined. But hey, the Browns won a playoff game in 2020! Yay!Shall we be complacent and rest because of the teams history? How many franchises have won playoff games since the Steelers last truly contended?
LOL! Don't worry about me. My whole meaning for being is certainly not dependent on whether or not the pro football team I sit and watch each week wins a playoff game or two every other year.Lol! You need real help. They never made it to the top, true. Being the 2nd place team in the league for 4 straight seasons is an accomplishment. Nothing? It seems to be affecting your self esteem. You just don't feel whole wearing your Heath Miller jersey out to the bar when the Steelers are 10-6 because you just know they are going to lose another game in January. What does Pittsburghs Super Bowl trophies of the distant past and Buffalo’s empty trophy case have to do with today? Hint: nothing.
i agree and this is obviously Tomlin's philosophy. the problem is, this slightly above .500 crap justifies this "system" in his mind and it wont change. and we know he wont be fired, ever so really us steeler fans are at the mercy of him and our only hope is him wanting to pull a cowher and retire early or pull an Andy reid and go elsewhere..The Steelers will overspend on Fields and be tied to that anchor for at least five years. I think that was the plan all along.
Not sure if anyone has noticed but Tomlin has no real interest in having a dynamic offense. Look at the whole offense by position and tell me where they're in the top half of the league in anything. Even salary. They even hired an OL coach who was fired almost as an afterthought. It's defense first and kick a field goal. Try to win every week by only putting 17 points on the board. Except that the defense isn't that good anymore, either, so they'll focus on that side of the ball in the draft.
You guys are taking runs at @Fk_Pitt for calling the franchise a joke but you had other teams calling out what the offense was going to run until public pressure overwhelmed them and they fired Canada. But at least they don't have losing seasons and the local sports writing lap dogs will convince you you're damn lucky to have a mediocre football team.
Joke is on you jtown, me and fk wear our heath miller jerseys out to the bar and to kennywood. losing in the first round every year doesnt deter us doing this..Nothing? It seems to be affecting your self esteem. You just don't feel whole wearing your Heath Miller jersey out to the bar when the Steelers are 10-6 because you just know they are going to lose another game in January.
Tomlin has the safest job in all of pro sports. There isn't any other pro coach on the planet that has better job security. And lets face it, most of "Steeler Nation" is fine with this and would love nothing more than to see the Steelers run a FB out there for 90% of the plays.i agree and this is obviously Tomlin's philosophy. the problem is, this slightly above .500 crap justifies this "system" in his mind and it wont change. and we know he wont be fired, ever so really us steeler fans are at the mercy of him and our only hope is him wanting to pull a cowher and retire early or pull an Andy reid and go elsewhere..
while steeler nation has to just sit here on our hands and celebrate 9-8 seasons with first round playoff losses while we wave our terrible towels
hey, dont mock, i'd love a fullback. I truly miss days of lead blockers in the backfield.Tomlin has the safest job in all of pro sports. Correction. I wear a Duce Staley jersey with tape over the name plate and Gay written in sharpie.Joke is on you jtown, me and fk wear our heath miller jerseys out to the bar and to kennywood. losing in the first round every year doesnt deter us doing this..
actually he has a heath miller jersey, i still wear my yancey thigpen one.
To be honest and serious here, I dont do cosplay. While you wear Jedi costumes to theaters for Star Wars movies, I don’t and therefore don’t wear other men’s jerseys either. Dress up is for kids and nerds. And furthermore I wasn’t much of a fan of those steeler teams because they employed a rapist thug at QB.Nothing? It seems to be affecting your self esteem. You just don't feel whole wearing your Heath Miller jersey out to the bar when the Steelers are 10-6 because you just know they are going to lose another game in January.
I don't have an issue with a run 1st philosophy. My issue is the lack of lack of imagination. They could mix things up better. It's ok to throw it on 1st down to throw the scent off some. Also they want to be a power run team, but they do not actually commit to it. I think it would actually serve them better to just embrace it with double TE and a FB instead of trying to be a power team with a crap O-lineTomlin has the safest job in all of pro sports. I'll let you in on another secret then. The 70s are over. I wouldn't trade being a Stiller fan for being a fan of the Dolphins, Raiders, Cowboys or even the Vikings. To be honest and serious here, I dont do cosplay. Darnold is going for 45M+. i'd assume vikings get him and shop JJ but who knows. i saw from shefter (i think) that the asking price for JJ is a first Rd and more..Sign darnold. Let Russell go

The whole thing breaks down when you spend all of your money on defense and then overpay for a couple of free agents that are more or less backups or guys you plug in and feel okay about when you have a great OL around them. It also helps if you don't keep drafting guys and try to plug them into positions they didn't play in college. You want to go back to a Jerome Bettis led type of offense? Great. But that team had an offensive line that could get two yards anytime they wanted.I don't have an issue with a run 1st philosophy. My issue is the lack of lack of imagination. He's planning to move the franchise to Galway.Rooney doesn’t even know who our current QB’s are. He should team up with Nutting and make a Netflix special. Dumb and Dumber part 2
Run the wishbone - find Barry Switzer's ghostI think Tomlins plan is to go with no QB next season… first ever no QB lineup
Good attitude to have, as it sure ain't gonna happen in Pittsburgh; at least anytime soon 😜Don't worry about me. My whole meaning for being is certainly not dependent on whether or not the pro football team I sit and watch each week wins a playoff game or two every other year.
No. Wilson is a NAG. Next year he will be an older and slower NAG.This is the projectes price for Russell Wilson. Will Rooney pony up the money to keep him, or roll the dice with Fields and possibly a draft pick?
You are just a troll. You might be one of Tomlin's sons. This franchise and team suck. You can't be a real Steeler fan and be satisfied with the product in its current form. Maybe being a Pitt fan has made you acquiesce to mediocrity. Trust me, it's OK to expect more out of one of the most respected franchises in all of sports. Real fans and even the Pittsburgh media have grown tired of Tomlin's BS! However, just like You, the national media still loves the slick talking 500 coach.I'll let you in on another secret then. The 70s are over. I wouldn't trade being a Stiller fan for being a fan of the Dolphins, Raiders, Cowboys or even the Vikings.
I can't even imagine what Darnold would look like running this offense. Currently he has probably the top receiver set to throw to in Jefferson, Addison, and Hockenson. Give him Pickens, Austin, and Friermuth with the Steelers pass blocking and you have a bottom 10 starter in this league. It wouldn't even be fair to blame it on Arthur Smith. This team has very little offensive talent and their best piece has a ten cent head if he is lucky. This team is a disaster when you compare any position group to some of the NFL's best, but, nowhere is the discrepancy more profound than at receiver.Arthur Smith would have him revert back to rookie Darnold.
