No poll necessary. We are obviously worse. He took over a sweet 16 program with a solid foundation. Now we are fighting for our tournament lives for the second year in a row. We went from playing for seed to playing for a bid. Clearly we are worse, and the ACC will hold us down because we can't recruit anymore

We were a Top 20 team when Howland left. We are about to be outside the RPI Top 50. It has been that way for the last 2 years.

The only good news is that there's always next year!!!

Oh wait, that probably isn't good news anymore.

IDK man before I go all negative I am giving it next year. Hell. we probably will still make the tournament this year. I really think Kithcart starts from day 1. I have no doubt Barnes will be approaching Jamie about some staff shakeups. If we can get some commits for 17 then maybe things will be more optimistic. That is all I am going to say. Firing Dixon this year isn't a good idea. Nor can we.

Something needs to change, that's all I know. That huge contract extension though really puts Pitt in a tough position.

Right now it's worse because it resembles a Paul Evans-type team. Four players will be flushed out at season's end so that will help. Some new additions to the back court will help, especially in terms of athleticism.

Cam Johnson's laceration was Willard like, so I'm not sure when Pitt hoops will get out of this funk. Artis and Young won't lead them out of it because that's not who they are. Will a true freshman like Kithcart? Doubtful. Major improvement from Wilson, Luther and Nix being a presence are musts.

Pretty amazing how this team had a chance to finish 11-7 in conference and shot the ball like absolute garbage for a second straight game.

Does anyone really think our upperclassmen will all of a sudden become leaders and play unselfish, team ball? The best hope lies with the young guys, but there aren't many of them on the current roster due to recruiting failures.

Depends on what you mean?
Before Dixon came to Pitt with howland ?
Yes
Before Dixon took over when howland bolted?
No, if you use the last two seasons.

It's an unclear question .

It seems pretty clear to almost everyone else. When Dixon took over from Howland.

Choose one of three alternatives.
Easily better.

Since 2003, we've gone to three more Sweet 16's and an Elite 8.

But you've only been waiting since 2004 to post this poll, right Mike?

Well it's a stupid question .
Clearly we aren't ranked, tough, and a lock .

May as well start a poll if water is wet at room temp.

Restating the obvious serves what function?
Mike 412 has absolutely hated Dixon since day one. It's well known.

1) Do we have good underclassmen on the roster?
2) Do we have good team chemistry?
3) Are we trending upward at the end of the season?

Worse but the last 2 seasons are low points. JD can turn it around, will he. Some serious changes need to be made- coaches, players going an

Choose one of three alternatives.
Should we play in front of a half empty Pederson Center or can we go back to the Fieldhouse and make it look as if we are drawing sellout crowds agsin.?
Because next year the Pete is gonna look like the Cleveland Indians are playing their minor league AAA team circa 1977.
Empty.

Ive posted this repeatedly, while there is now a full blown call from fans to make changes on the staff, given how jd recruits, unless a new hire has major talent completely in his pocket, that is assurred of coming w him, the only assistant I see going is bk.

NOW, jd recruited them and is responsible for that and that they have ceilinged out at just good enough to lose every big game but one every year, his hands are tied by jrob, young and artis.

With his contract, it looks like he is getting one more cycle, starting w a core of kithkart/Maginault supplemented by wilson, luther, cam, clark and the 16-17 class.

I would REALLY like to see him go back to jd ball, wheaty eating big men, mental and physical toughness.

It's a shame Pitt fans are terrible front runners.

It's inexcusable that Jamie can't attain the only success we ever had in the last 70 years with Dixon as coach. It is another silly poll. The true answer is, it got waaaaaaaay better, and is now back to just below where we were before when he started. How land was here, what, 3 seasons? That isn't a program building period of time. We are a few players away from being back to when Jamie started. People are acting like we are BC. The last 3 years have been brutal for sure, but I think we can get better with a combination of better assistants and players. Not all need to be jettisoned, but I wouldn't give a "crap" about "gambling" and ditching a current player.

Obvious answer (we're definitely worse) but an irrelevant question. That's a relevant question you ask about 3-5 years after firing a coach that was delivering average to slightly above-average performance but not taking a program to 'the next level'. Not going to mention any names, but there may be some examples on the FB side of the house.

But Dixon has been the coach now for what, 13 years. And during that time, he definitely took the program the loftier heights than where it was at when he took over. Well, it's obviously way below that level now and I'd would say even lower now then when he took over. So the real question is whether or not he can get it back to where he personally had taken the program to before. Unfortunately, I'm not real optimistic of that.

We are worse off now than when JD took over but we also reached all time highs during JD’s run. I really thought he would have been a terrific recruiter when he took over but not so much! Losing that kid from Philly to Ped U hurt shows me all I need to know.

You mean opportunity cost?
Because they don't make money(assuming not sold), they don't cost money.
You mean that building doesn't cost anything to operate.....

It must be a kind of Wunderbar structure....

I said this on Twitter after the VT loss. I'll say it again here:

Jamie Dixon is the best best coach that Pitt can get. Firing Jamie Dixon is a step backwards. Jamie Dixon will never get Pitt back to an Elite 8 during his time here without quality assistants. Slice and Orlando brought the players and Dixon coached them up. This team has no real identity and the recruits we're pulling will not get the job done in the ACC. Pitt needs to be a tough physical team, like UVA. That is our only way forward and was our way forward when we were considered one of the top programs in the nation.

Agree 95%.
Orlando really did not do much recruiting, he was part of the decline, frankly in that regard.
Other than that, spot on, thought again, outside of BK, I am not seeing any turnover in the assistants.

Barton and Knight have been the 2 fixtures on this staff during this decline, and Knight has been in the #1 asst chair. It is not a coincidence. Either JD is not letting these guys recruit the guys they want, or these guys cannot recruit well. Take your pick, but it needs to be fixed.

Agree on BK.
I have done my share of Barton bashing, but Kithkart's commit pic has him, his parents, JD and Barton in it. He was the guy who found him, I think and was the guy who led his recruitment. He also was the guy who made the reconnect with Clark.
So, for this class, at least, Barton has some recent positives to to his account.
BK ... A whole lot of nothing. And, as the first assistant, other than being the players coach, what does he add strategically? And, the heads of the kids and overall chemistry is not great.
I personally think JD did better with a stronger first assistant ...
