OT: Bethel Park.....Zelda????

That Trader Joe’s has the chik-fil-a next door so that certainly doesn’t help.
Here’s the thing…that parking lot is so bad, so tight, and so congested, you have to go over to Chick fil A for reprieve!

I was so frustrated this past weekend. I rarely get that way. Even two weeks ago on my almost 3 hour commute, I took it in stride and just listened to good stuff on the radio. But at Trader Joe’s, I wanted to jump out of my skin. I dropped my wife off and circled around back of chick fil A and parked there, rather than fight all the people at Trader Joe’s. The last time I was that frustrated over people was at Costco in Robinson early on Super Bowl Sunday a couple of years ago. That place is brutal.

It is awkward. Very much so. No flow whatsoever.

And football has to share stadiums with 2 other teams in the fall (boys and girls soccer). I’ve seen plenty of occasions, especially at Lebo with Palko, that he hated ending his practice because there was a sanctioned soccer match that had to start at 6pm. So now that Lebo has a lined turf field up above, I suspect the football team can practice there happily without worrying about having to cut practice short for a WPIAL soccer match.
Football teams don't need a lined field for an occasional one-off practice. . . . That field shouldn't have football lines as I doubt it's ever truly needed for football.
I guess if having the second turf practice football field delivered a 6A PIAA football championship for Lebo, it was worth it. That carries way more weight in Western PA than soccer.

Or the fact that he practiced in pads all year….

if you are from one area and driving in another, it's usually frustrating. i'lve lived in south hills all my life, getting around bethel, lebo, usc, peters isnt that hard lol. I had to go up to wexford for my kid's pediatrician appt, i wanted to kill myself but not before taking out 20 people with me.

Bakery square, squirrel hill, that area, forget it. a few years back i almost had to be relocated for work to bakery square, i wouldnt have been able to do it, it would have been impossible coming from the south hills, that would have been a 90 minute commute each way..

washington rd/19 goes thru Lebo thru the main downtown area. if im going to dormont or downtown, im avoiding that "4 lane" road every single time. It will take you 20 minutes to go from the beginnng of it (Mellon school) to the end of it (St Bernards church). you stop at a red light every 20'.. everyone avoids it by taking suburb roads to get around it (cedar to beverly to banksville or stay on 88 and go thru castle shannon or at worst, cut down north meadowcroft to banksville).

people from the north hills dont like driving in the south hills and vice versa.. people who live east of city, i honestly dont think they even attempt to come north, south or west.

Agree to a certain point.

I live east of the city. I especially find the south agitating though. Followed by the North.

Yeah you need a practice field for that. Palko isn't going to get priority to hold his practices on the main field during lacrosse season (at least I don't think he would, I think lacrosse has grown enough to get some priority; although when I was in high school, football would have had priority on their main field pretty much 365 days a year). So again, I'd say it was probably worth including the football lines on the second turf field, and that answers my question as to why you would need a second turf football field.

Agreed. And then he, well his boosters, paid for indoor field rental throughout the winter on a line absent field. Don’t need lines for running illegal drills though. ;).

I’m just having fun though . I honestly don’t care who runs drills 52 weeks a year.

Yeah, all traffic sucks. I can't imagine going back to that life. I commuted to Pitt for 4.5 years, worked downtown for a little over a year, and then worked in Robinson for a little under a year. Been working in the South Hills ever since, and I can't fathom devoting two hours of my days to sitting in traffic again.

Yeah, that parking lot is part of the reason I no longer go to Trader Joe's. The other reason is that I got tired of the employees, obviously performing a mandated directive, forcing conversation upon me about every single purchase I made.

"Omg, I love these! Have you tried the mango ones? They're delish."

of all the extremely weird and irrational rants that Sean Miller Fan has graced upon us on this board, his rant against Chick Fil A parking lots has some validity to it.. especially that one there in usc/bethel.

I don’t know man. Rants about football lines on a soccer field is really weird. This isn’t the first time he’s brought it up. I mean, I was a varsity soccer coach and appreciated the lines. They are extremely useful for training.

And the fact that you can count the number of WPIAL schools who have a soccer only stadium on one hand kinda proves that they aren’t useful and are not a good use of funds. But SMF loves wasting tax payer dollars.

i think mark madden got into it with the womens lingerie football players years ago about this topic. he said that Highmark stadium field shouldnt have football lines (so a reverse argument) and to keep it a soccer only field and the "women" football players just went off on him on social media..

Bakery Square, Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, Oakland, etc....during mid day I can get to those places within 20 minutes or so. In many cases, I go to restaurants there for lunch because it is easier to get in and out of those places before rush hour.

North Hills (where I was yesterday) I know frigging every single road and side road from Shaler to Cranberry so it is never a problem if there is congestion. I don't know the South Hills as well.

I remember that. Yeah. That’s a soccer field for a pseudo professional team and it should be that way. Lol.

you see, that's my point. if you arent familiar with a section of town, you are going to probably be frustrated. if you know the back roads and what to avoid, it's not bad.

2 football fields on campus is fine. No issues with that. But nobody needs 3. BP is probably the only one with 3.

I am not suggesting that schools build soccer-only fields. I am saying that if you have the funds to have 3 football fields on your campus, 1 of them should be soccer-only because 2 football fields is enough.

Bethel doesn't really have 19. 19 only passes through Bethel for 2 blocks. It goes from USC to a small BP "jut-out" for 2 blocks then back into USC at the Chick Fil A then into Lebo.
Right l, from ft couch to CFA. I was literary just making fun of the "no highway" commentary. I don't know if you'd really call 19 a highway anyway. There are 6 lights just in the couple miles that it run through USC. 7 if you count the one at Abbeyville which is like half USC half Lebo.

Yeah
Like I said above -
Folks who complain about city traffic don’t actually mean in the city .
They mean leaving the city to a place in the burbs

Yeah but.......especially with alot of construction in East Liberty and Lawrenceville, it does add a degree of difficulty to traffic.

Yea, I'm not sure I'd consider 19 a highway but at least there's 2 lanes on each side. It's incredible that in a town of 32,000 people, there are no roads with 2 lanes on each side. How is that possible?

The building going up on Butler st did create congestion for a month or so -
But that’s more a couple minutes of delay when it was down to 1 lane .
I drive past it everyday .
Can’t say I’ve noticed much with East Liberty , other than when replacing the lead water pipes throughout the city incrementally.
Luckily , plenty of ways around .

You defend city living as much as you defend Mike Tomlin. Why? What difference does it make? Is anyone taking shots at city traffic? I would agree with you that Pittsburgh city living isn’t so bad as far as traffic. Id also point out that your commute to Acrisure takes about the same amount of time as mine, despite you being 3-4 miles away and me being 16-20. You like the city. Others like the burbs. There is no right or wrong. This really isn’t an argumentative conversation.

You said city traffic is bad
It’s objectively not .

Has nothing to do with “city living “.

Buddy - I’m door to door to my parking lot for Pitt games in under 15 minutes at worst . Enjoy the T

I replied to you comment and the other

He meant like all of us, going into and out of the city at rush hours sucks. Especially in topography challenged Pittsburgh which has small highways, lots of bridges, tunnels, etc....It's a pretty unique city when you compare it with Southern and Midwestern cities that are flat and laid out with large beltway and feeder highways. You don't have to take a veiled shot anyone who criticizes something about "the city". It's boring and a bit arrogant.

yes it does and it's why a true beltway should have been built decades ago. a long time ago i used to work in monroeville while living in mt lebo. even though it was against traffic, it still sucked, especially coming home..

pittsburgh is probably one of a few cities that actually funnels you INTO the city if you want to go from south to east. most people dont want to go into the city unless they absolutely have too.

it's getting better though..

I mean - at least you just get to head up 28N which is pretty flat .

You guys hate sharing roads with folks who also choose to live far away .
It’s simply baked into living there .

I said that Pittsburgh city living isn’t bad as far as traffic. You literally responded to the post that I acknowledged that.

But just as certain places in the burbs, there can be struggles in the city depending on the time of day. I can be downtown in 15 minutes from my front door, but if I need to get to shadyside, I have to leave 30 minutes earlier and allow 45-60 minutes because I frankly don’t know how much traffic I’m going to hit.

I support your own local taxes paying for it .
For the dozens of folks who need that beltway.
Or just live closer to where ya work ?

pittsburgh city traffic isnt bad compared to other cities because very few people actually live in the city of pittsburgh compared to the suburbs... i'd bet the population isnt even 300k and most of those people live on the outskirts of thie city...

downtown pittsburgh after 6pm is a ghost town unless there is a game going on..

Unless you’re taking a bus from downtown .

Yet you find that traffic difficult .
Seems a problem with a solution .
Work closer to wheee ya live.

I turned down a job because I’d have to commute 45 min at least each way .
I value my time .

It’s not. What happens if you get behind a bus? Try getting from downtown to shadyside at 7am. Can you do it in 15? Sure. But you better not try it unless you want to be late for a meeting.

i agree, working in the city sucks and if at all possible, work closer from home. not exactly something anyone would disagree with.

Ya should take the bus.
Why are you going through downtown ?
Take 579 to 28.
Get off the either bridge 6 or 7 and takes ya to centre ave pretty quickly .

Youre just being silly. I just routed market square to shadyside at 2:45pm and it said it’s 19 minutes. What happens if you try the same exercise during rush hour? Like I said, allow for extra time or you’ll be late.
