OT:steelers/Ravens

The tackle...Fathead's only play in that Super Bowl..he was a stiff. That was eons ago in any event ...what has Fathead done more recently...check the Buffalo, Miami and and Philly tapes...HOF game manager, Fathead.
If you're a Steeler fan and are waiting for him to leave, you are a moron. How he played in that Super Bowl is irrelevant, simply because if they had drafted someone else, their last SB appearance would still be Dallas 1996.

Are you really a Steelers fan? Or a Steelers hater?

If you are a fan, do you really want to get rid of Ben? If so, who exactly can they get who is better?

You're right, "Fathead" ****s up sometimes, but the truth is FH is still at least a top 5-10 QB in the NFL.

Name to me who exactly would you prefer among anyone not named Brady, Brees, Manning, Rodgers?

My best friend is very similar. He likes the Steelers, but roots against them because he hates Steeler fans. They look for favorite players of the fans and nitpick them. Just laugh at them and ignore them.

You're now making up your own narrative. I've constantly contended ONLY one point: #7 is overrated. I've rooted for the Steelers my whole life. I've seen them play twice on the road this year. I've watched # 7 his whole career. When he has to carry the team on his back, he fails, simple as that. He gets the job done when he has a strong running game which complements him and doesn't require him to win the game himself- when he is placed in that position, all too often his inaccuracy as a passer and inconsistency as a decision maker catches up with him. He's also at his worst in the redzone which is why the a Steelers have to kick so many FGs. Are the Steelers better with him than without him- of course. He's just over rated.

Let's see what # 7 does today. Again I predict he plays very conservatively, uses Bell to death and plays a subordinate role to Bell in the offense today. That's not what you expect from a HOF QB in a game of today's magnitude. Will the Steelers score more than 20 points today, a total which by today's standards is nothing with or without. HOF QB? I hate Baltimore and want to see the Steelers put an end to their season emphatically today- I think we can agree on that.

The Steelers could lose 40-0 today.... and Ben is still going to be a first-ballot hall of famer.

Not so sure... The SB years are pretty far back in the rear view mirror and if #7 plays another mediocre 5 years with the Steelers doing nothing in the post season, he may not be the look you think he is.

He's top 10 in every stat and will play 3 more years. He'll be top 5 in all passing stats with 2 x SB and another appearance. He's a lock - get over it.

He doesn't ALWAYS FAIL when he has to carry the team on his back. He only fails during this small subset of games that YOU determine to be the measuring stick. Every game that posters bring up, it's either too long ago or ya but what about Philly and Miami. YAWN. Sit back and enjoy watching a Hall Of Fame QB, it might be a while before we get one again. You got about 5 years left.

If he plays five more years, he will have nearly 70,000 passing yards and 400 TDs.

First ballot.

I'm going to be objective here. Ben's best days are probably behind him. His long ball is consistently short and late. However he is still very usable and an asset to the Steelers. The main concern should be finding a legitimate back-up or draft a QB and start to groom him as Ben's eventual replacement...(Hint: Peterman would be a nice 5th or 6th round pick)

Just watch him today and then we'll chat...

Why would you rely on ben and the pass against the raven? Why not use your best player Bell as much as possible? Do you like to win, or read stats?

And I agree with Ski. Please list the QB's better than Ben. I'll start....Tom Brady.

If he's as good as you say he is, then you'd put the game in his hands. The Steelers won't score 20 points today if the game plan revolves around estabilshing a running game...

As long as they score 1 more than baltimore, i don't care if they get over 20. There's a reason the over/under is currently 42.5 and rarely at or above 45.

Sign me up for Bell vs Zach Orr all day long. Running or short passes out of the backfield. That's where we win and wear the crown.

I've become just a bit more than just a casual steeler fan over the past several years, so I need help with something. This strikes me as the healthiest the Steelers have been for this game in a long time.

I am listening to a Baltimore media personality on the radio and he is saying that there is a significant confidence with the Raven fan base regarding Sunday's game. Their reasoning is due to their recent success winning 6 of 7 against the Steelers. My immediate thought it that the Steelers have often been missing key players for those games (roethlisberger, Bell, etc). Injuries are one thing, but missing your franchise QB or arguably your best weapon on offense are significant.

Anyone have any thoughts on this off the top of their head or is my perception wrong? I don't feel like doing the homework but my very first thought is how many of those games was Roethlisberger healthy?
Go Ravens !

It wasn't a stretch considering past history but Del has this one called to a tee. Typical Ben game against the Ravens so far. I think he only has one good game against them on his resume. This one's going according to script.

Bad pick there
Yeah when Del was complaining that Ben was just going to be a game manager and they were going to rely on Bell and the running game to carry them to victory, I was thinking that sounds fine to me because I have too many memories of the bad stupid int's he's thrown in big games.

Having said all that, I sure hope he has some magic here in the last qtr.

Probably would've been hosed if Brown didn't get in. Weddle was yanking him by the facemask and the refs missed it.

All the credit to Bell and Brown...Fathead played like Trent Dilfer. Nice picks, Fathead, almost giving the game to Baltimore. Hell the TD pass to Brown was even stupid... Glad the Steelers won...now I get to critique Fathead at least one more time this year. It should be clear to everyone that the coaching staff doesn't even trust Fathead to throw unless the game situation absolutely requires it.

He seems to be a different QB at times when running a traditional O as opposed to hurry up/spread. Those picks today were nothing short of atrocious. But the last quarter - he was unbelievable.

Looked like a hall of famer when the game was on the line....
I'm a Steeler fan so definitely happy they won. But you can't turn it into a p*#!xing contest as to whether or not he is elite, HOF'r, etc. That game definitely showed both sides of Ben, the very good and the very bad. He had the pics and a good number of other bad passes that luckily didn't end in a pic or prevented a large YAC. Happy that he and the team were able to overcome them.

I'm not a Ben "Fan" per se. (Maybe it's his personality)
But he's one tough competitor. And a hell of a quarterback.

As a human being - I'm not a fan. I don't know if he's gotten any better in the last cpl years but I know he was still an enormous pri** even after his incident and that fluff piece Pompeani/KDKA did. I'll just leave it at that.

But I've always enjoyed watching him play.

Makes you scratch your head at times. Sometimes you wanna strangle him. But despite all of his mystery ailments he's got guts and he's though as nails. Does things nobody else can do. His ability to extend plays - either thru brute force or nimble feet is something to see.

Yeah. I don't get that TD pass. Glad they won...but if Brown doesn't bail out Ben by extending over the plane, the games over. It worked, but is that a throw a veteran QB should make?

Hell, no you don't make that throw...endzone or bust.

Because of golf course behavior and etiquette or because he was a three time sexual offender...allegedly. ???

Probably just being pri** and unbelievably boorish behavior in general.

To be clear - my comments above were just along these lines. Never was told of any alleged criminal behavior. But I was friends with a guy who had to deal with him from time to time. Just an absolute pri**. And had some other people tell me things who dealt with him directly. Just an awful person. Treated people like dirt on a regular basis. Bottom of the barrel.

It is called trusting your best to make a play!

What is troubling with the Steelers is that they often call plays so conservative and today for 3 quarters acted like they were playing against the 85 Bears on defense. It was all LeVeon Bell and short passes never stretching the field. The play calling had as much or more to do with Ben's INT's as anything. Sure they were bad throws, but the Ravens knew if they defended solid within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage they could shut the Steelers down.

Finally, when forced to open it up, they started to make them defend the whole field and they made the Ravens look awful. The question is why wait to open it up and use your playmakers? If they are to go anywhere in the playoffs it will be on the backs of Ben, Bell, and Brown. With the defense in its current state, they are not going to be able to approach each game as if they are going against the 85 Bears. They are going to have to play the way they did in the 4th quarter, from the onset.

Here is to hoping they learned something today. It is time to call plays as if they know they have the best offense in football, and stop being conservative and treating these defenses they are going against as if they are the 85 Bears.

I agree with your assessment completely. The offensive game plan was terrible. The other thing is that given the fact that the Steelers' D isn't that good they should go into every game thinking you better score at least 25 points to win and game plan accoerdingly. I think the worst call of the game was when the Stellers had the ball at midfield late in the second quarter on third and three and they ran off tackle...just terrible.
