Pickens ain’t optimistic!

I’d take that in a heartbeat. Are you kidding me? Lol. I’d take a 4th and wash my hands of him.
agree, get a 2nd, use it on a wr, also pick up maybe a Cooper or Godwin in Free agency, ( i dont think we have a prayer at Higgins). then you basically just dramatically improved your WR room from last year..

now all we need is to find a qb, easier said than done obviously

Stillers need more than a QB and a WR, I can assure you.

lol, of course they do, but you have to start somewhere.. 95% of steeler fans want to blow this up and start over, move on TJ, move on Minkah, get some draft picks. unfortunately Mediocre mike and Fredo Rooney arent in agreement

i think the problem is, you arent getting much value for him in return. teams know his issues, one year left on a rookie contract, probably 2nd rd pick at best..are
Seems coverting high draft picks into much lower ones is what some
Think is a winning strategy .

Because apparently losing a productive cheap receiver somehow will result in a better receiver room .
It’s magical thinking.

Ernie Holmes once shot at a police helicopter.
Yeah - the supposed Steeler way was a sliding scale based on production.
Just like everyone else .

If they think they can get $1.6 mil of value from Pickens - they’ll move on from him .
The question then is - who the hell will be catching the ball next year and deom
Which qb ?!

Lots of focus in the very cheap WR in his last year on Contract
I’d rather worry about some of the albatross contracted on defense to focus on dollars , not Pennies.

A reporter asked Pickens if he’s optimistic going forward? He said…Nah. Funny as hell. He sees the writing on the wall with this shitshow.
I agree with him, Tomlin is the absolute worst offensive mind in the NFL and they have the most backward, obsolete, play scared philosophy and worst play book and play calling in the NFL.

Who cares about next year though, other than those who want to keep the non losing streak alive and get pounded in the first round of the playoffs? George has value at that price, although many in the business think it’s diminishing returns based on the baggage he brings. But if you’re one who thinks he could help you because you’re making a run at a championship, I can see that position. But the Steelers aren’t making a run at anything…so trade him and get whatever value you can.

Nobody tries to lose before a season starts .

You seem hyper focused on a wr on a 1 year deal .
Want to tank for draft potions ?
It’s not losing a guy who is UFA after the year for a late draft pick .
It’s shedding salaries on defense after July 1st so you aren’t in cap hell

You think art has the sack to do that ?

Respectfully Souf I don’t know what you’re saying here.

My point is that if the Steelers moved on from Pickens tomorrow, no one would bat an eye because plenty of people think that’s what they should do.

I know you’re hyper focused on his cap hit next year, but who really cares? This team isn’t competing for anything.

Play the long game.

So -
You don’t want to lose to be at the top of the draft ?

Dump big salaries and term to rebuild .
Otherwise -
You simply only want to have a slightly different receiver for only the sake of having one - whixh won’t make any significant difference
Fk is to Pickens and Madden:JuJu

Oh stop it. Madden trolled Juju for ratings. I want the Steelers to move on from George because he’s one of the guys who could yield some kind of return. Remember the Claypool deal? There are suckers everywhere. And it’s not just me, but it’s essentially the entire steeler media who are paid to cover the team who say some form of the same. I’m also for doing the same with Minkah and TJ. But you don’t seem to care about that. Minkah however would be cost prohibitive. George wouldn’t. Not sure why you’re so attached to George.

Claypool had 2 years left on his rookie deal .
I’m not attached at all .
It’s simply production vs costs .

I really don’t care what “media has to say “. The next inciteful opinion offered by pittsburgh media will be the first .

What’s cost prohibitive about it ?
Who cares about next season, right?
Minkah takes up over 8% of the cap , the dead cap is fraction ($46.9mil over 2 years vs 20.6mil)

Watt needs cut . Take the $9.4mil in dead cap value the 11+ percent of cap space he’ll get with a new deal .

They all need to be cut loose. But you’ll see the Steelers move on from pickens this off-season or next…and you’ll see the Steelers resign Watt, which is a big mistake. Because they think they can win a championship. They aren’t smart.

Pickens costs nothing
So it really don’t matter .

Can’t contend with a defense aging in dog years and no talent on offense

you cant cut watt, he's one of the top defensive players in the league. i'd love to see us try to move him to a winner, get a draft pick out of it. i agree, you absolutely cant extend him and i think they will.

Pickens you trade again if you can get anything for him but you cant, Teams know he is a cancer, they dont want tha in their locker room any more than we do. In a perfect world, Pickens shuts up, doesnt quit on plays and realizes he is in a contract year and has to play well to make money but we know that's not in him so you get him as far away from this team as you can. even if that is just getting a 3rd rd pick..

You can absolutely cut him.
Is he worth 12% of the salary cap by himself ? Hell no.
What has he won? Not a single playoff game .

Whether Pickens is on the team or not next year - the offense has zero playmakers left .

I’ll make a guarantee. If the Steelers can land a good FA WR, which they 100% will try to do, and they get a formidable WR draft pick, the Steelers won’t find George’s inexpensive salary with the trouble. He will be gone.

No amount of soufie George defending will convince the Steelers that he’s worth it.

i just have a hard time expecting a big name WR FA to come play for this offense, with our qb situation being what it is. even if the money is equal, someone like a Godwin would go play for an actual NFL Offense with an actual NFL QB..

that's what makes me skeptical.

Yep
Keep waiting for those FA WRs to sign!
Steelers have a long history of landing!
Especially with 0 qb signed .

Pickens is not worth the months you have spent obsessed over him!

And the organizational philosophy. Glad we agree. The crop is thin and why would they come to play in a no risk live in their fears Steeler offense?

So
Again
The solution is less talent with the hope for a lottery ticket, madden ?
Maybe this drafted wr can actually play and not spend a year on IR ?!?

this organization just absolutely needs to figure out how they identify the biggest head case WRs in the draft and continue to draft them, every time..

What ever they are doing with drafting wrs, it's not working. figure it out and do the opposite. this isnt a coincidence, this is a failed process.

Maybe this drafted receiver can run routes and keep himself out of trouble.

Again like everything else, it would take a huge shift in the head coaches philosophy. Look, Tomlin is a really good dude. He is confident in himself and thinks he can help people and make them better. That’s admirable. But this WR philosophy is a failed one.

you almost wonder if there is an arrogance factor coming from tomlin and the steelers with drafting these head cases.

a mindset of thinking that they can "fix" them once they get them here in pittsburgh. that would be funny because this steeler culture recently not only doesnt fix this behavior but it enables it..

Sure it’s arrogance. But it’s born out of confidence and good intentions. I get it. But it ain’t working. Gotta go with a new approach.

Yeah
It’s called - draft the talented guy and let coaches deal with it .
Not sure why you all worry about making the coaches jobs easier ?

Like a huge team first unselfish guy like JuJu?

I mean - who are these supposed mental guys they are drafting ?
What were the red flags about Dionte , claypool or even marrtavis before the draft ?l

seems like a lotta revisions going on.

Hint - most players flame out .

Well for one, there was a rift in the locker room. When one player is allowed to be chronically late and then play in games, while others are held to a different standard, it’s not a recipe for a healthy and united team. So the coaches don’t police it adequately and then the players have to take it upon themselves and spend their time and energy on the troubled and immature WR. But maybe you never were part of a locker room so you wouldn’t know how that could be a problem?

yep, like i said, the steeler culture doesnt only not fix it, they make it worse. this has been shown for the better part of the decade now..

time to try a new strategy.

Buddy - you need to lay off sports talk radio .

Weird how they didn’t trade him last year.

Want to know who I think the cancer is ?
TJ Watt
Makes too much and hasn’t won a single playoff game his entire career.
Entirely motivated by individual accolades.

There is no “culture “ .
It’s all a myth .
These are professionals and millionaires

I agree on TJ. 100%. Trade him.

But why do you deny facts regarding George? Do you have poster of him above your bed? You’re acting really freaky.

Because Pickens has no trade value since he’s UFA soon .

Just cut him if he’s so bad for the lockerrom .

TJ’s trade value isn’t much either for the same reason .
Send a message .
The dead cap hit is the same either way.

The Broncos ate a far bigger dead cap hit with Russ and made the playoffs .

Art won’t do it , because he likes fan favorites.
Also why they over paid for a mid tier TE - cause the fans yell “muth!!”

Only Heyward has earned his contract, imo

All fair points soufie. But one small detail…you can still get something for George. So I’d do it. I don’t care what it is. They have 8 draft picks this year but 3 are in the 7th round. I’d trade George for anything that can be used to move up in the draft.

Watt moves you way further up.
You package a couple 6-7 rounds to move into maybe the 4-5th.
It’s not moving the needle .
Use George up and let him go
Just like they did with Najee and should have done with muth
