New York Yankees and Pinstripe Bowl officials took turns Tuesday praising Pitt and Northwestern, the teams that will play in their game Dec. 28. Pitt (8-4) was labeled the only team in the nation to defeat two Top 5 schools this season and one of the all-time great college football schools.
“Who didn't grow up watching Pitt football?” said Mark Holtzman, executive director of the Pinstripe Bowl. Meanwhile, he called Northwestern (6-6) “a perennial Big Ten powerhouse.”
When it was his turn to speak at the news conference at Yankee Stadium, site of the seventh annual game, Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald spoke of his relationship with “good friend” Pat Narduzzi, a former Michigan State defensive coordinator and Big Ten rival..................
