Suspensions

I am willing to bet if you asked a panel of NCAA football experts they would rank Pat Narduzzi much higher coach in prestige, accomplishment and more importantanty ethics and ability for program building future. Franklin is generally not well thought of in major football circles and I see him fired or back on the hot seat after last years luck fest 11-3 season. They win 7 games at most this season and we beat them down again this season.

What is the other standard from testing and reporting? Just not sure what you mean.

IF there are different ways to deal with this, you would think schools that have a more lax program would make sure recruits know this as well......you know just as an FYI
I think they do indeed recruit against us on this. Sad to say these suspensions will be used against us twice ... in the games, and with recruits.

Suspensions happen everywhere,West,East and South of Pittsburgh! It's the ugly part of college football so to speak. It hurts when it's your school but with 85 young men on the team not all are angels and they break rules.Pitt isn't alone when it comes to suspensions, you will survive.

Question for the sharp legal minds here:
Is there any chance the legal system could knock Bookser out of action for more than the first game?
What charges is he facing? Is he looking at fines or could he do a little time? And does the system move fast enough to punish him during the season? Or is that months away?

Charges are here: https://ujsportal.pacourts.us/DocketSheets/MDJReport.ashx?docketNumber=MJ-05003-CR-0004344-2017

He will likely get ARD (Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition) which amounts to drivers license suspension, probation, DUI classes and a fine. If he gets ARD, the legal system won't keep him out of any games.

I would defiantly use this to negatively recruit.

You can be a forest ranger or dairy farmer and light up & get smashed at thon at PSU.
True. But equally true at UNC. And Duke (there certainly have been hoodlums on their hoops team).

Pitt self-sanctions, and pays the price. What's odd is we don't go all the way with it ... witness willing to bring in a guy like Carter (which I absolutely have no problem with btw ... but just saying). We half-ass it. Really satisfying nobody, in the end. The sticks-in-the-ass types aren't happy with anything but a team of genius boy scouts. They see today's actions and say, hey why not MORE games for Bookser too! While the likes of me are frustrated that we don't follow what Louisville (or Miami, UNC, or yes, Duke) would do to these guys ... likely nothing.

I haven't seen the benefit Pitt gets from this wishy washy approach, other than making the suits a little giddier in their skivvies when they can force the coaches' hand on occasion.

Wow, just really shocked at Blair. I mean the poor kid had a chance to make it at a P5 school and having the opportunity to chase every kid's (well almost every kid) dream of one day playing in the NFL....especially after suffering a stroke at a young age....just to throw it all away.

As Ricky Watters once said, "For who? For what?"

taking a stand ??? lol....alot of schools would have kicked bookser to the curb and what stand are they taking by bringing in Kam Carter? Thankfully penn state took a stand and sent him packing. It is only a matter of time before that ticking time bomb goes off.

What did Kam Carter do to get kicked out at Penn State? Did he report a crime?

meanwhile at the University of Colorado....the Buffaloes are getting ready to build on last year's season.
Meanwhile in Mckeesport this week there were lines a mile long of people wanting to "work" at the pot farm that the commonwealth is opening up there. While Pitt is kicking out players for it.

We have a rigorous testing program, even for pot. This problem will continue to get worse as weed becomes more culturally accepted.
Even more reason for Pitt to get with the times. Marijuana is going to become more commonplace over time. There is no extra credit for acting holier than thou.

I'd take that bet.
Narduzzi's rep as a defensive wizard took a hit last season. He refused to adjust for the weakness in the secondary and cost his team a chance to win a few more games. They allowed Sryacuse to pile up the points.
His last two teams have been woefully prepared for the bowl games. And you can slam Franklin all you want, but he's kicking Pitt's fanny in recruiting.

Whitehead has been a dissapointment.
After a great FR season he has been very disappointing. Even when healthy last year(assuming he was when he was playing) he wasn't anything more than average. Now this. Guy who many thought could be a 2 time all american and early draft pick.

Given your title of President of the UNDIES in a Bunch Guild I expect no less from you.
But what's the big deal here? Was Blair ever that good? Whitehead is good, but he isn't great. And face facts, his position is not a make or break it. He is a remarkable athlete but he is not a great defensive player.
These all occur pre season so players who are eligible will have the ability to practice and play.
This is why you build a PROGRAM....so your next line of talent can step up. One or two players making or breaking a team is what Pitt has been. I don't think the drop in actual talent is all that severe any longer.
But then again, panic was never my sweet spot.
Narduzzi isn't pooping his pants.
As for policing the thread....this is the era of PC and everyone is a champion.
What a clown

I disagree regarding Blair. He's proven he's just another guy. A decent backup, but not someone I'm worried about losing. He hurts depth, but not an impact player of any note.

Still have Hendrix, Edwards, and plenty of young guys who will now get playing time. Interested to see Weaver get some snaps.

Agree Blair is just another guy, a roster filler who can play and not kill you but he isn't going to make many plays either. He was experienced and would have been a solid backup but its not likely that loses us any games. Same with Wirginis and he will be back after 3 games. I actually expected Bookster to miss more time. The one that hurts is whitehead. He was only average last year, but that was still better than the other guys. Plus I was expecting him to return to his FR form and be a stud.

Whitehead won't be impacted. NFL scouts know what he can do. The NFL teams probably would like it if he didn't play at all, save the wear and tear.

Bookser isn't missing an important game. But he better be conditioning like a fiend to be ready for game 2.

Wirginis and Blair are meh.

Not true. Lets be honest NFL teams could care less what these guys do off the field as long as it doesn't prevent them from being studs on the field. but they are not going to like seeing a guy not playing football because of off the field issues because it means he has a repeated behavior which has kept him from playing, if its weed the NFL test as well and it will keep him from playing in the NFL as well.

A time bomb went off in the 70's and covered to obtain the alrighty 409.. get lost.

To build a program from mediocrity you have to instill discipline. In addition - are any of these players Narduzzi recruits? Hmmm...

Look at the players who transferred out. All Chryst recruits. He's building HIS team w/ HIS players. Taleni, Wirginnis and Blair were just another in a long-line of 2-star defensive recruits recruited by super-recruiter Matt House. And Whitehead? Just to prove that no one is above the law of Coach.

Well, they better rethink that policy then since medical marijuana is legal in PA and spreading. Rec use is fully legal in at least 8 states and you can drive 4 hours and smoke as much as you want in DC. I'm no advocate for pot, but it is big time stupid to keep the same penalties with the ongoing decriminalization, particularly considering all the other crap that goes in academic settings these days.
No, Rec use is illegal in EVERY state since it's a Federal Law. For some reason the federal government is letting it slide but it still illegal in EVERY state.

You can have Franklin I will take Narduzzi over him

Yeah, it is on the books. Guess what?, it is illegal to sing in a bathtub in Pennsylvania.

And I'm telling you, it's going to get worse not better with the direction this administration has chosen

Bigger fish to fry and no need to tie up federal prosecutors with small potatoes.
Their plates are full already.
I agree...but, it's still illegal in all states. I often wonder if federal grants are at risk? Regardless, it's illegal. If you'd like to change that you should vote accordingly.

If they Feds cared, no only would grants be at risk and they'd be raiding all the state licensed production facilities and outlets. The cat is out of the bag and they aren't going to get it back in.

The reason you can't smoke weed in the casinos is because their licensing is done at the federal level.

As far as being technically illegal you are correct, but that's much more in theory than in practice. There's a reason why I see 5 billboards on my to work advertising "legal" weed. For all intents and purposes it's legal in the states that have voted it in, and their numbers are only going to grow with each election cycle.

Catagorically untrue he was 4th in the entire ncaa in tackles when he was injured and every QB threw the ball away from him. He was having a monster year.

They arent suspended for failing a drug test., its also much worse than Bookser. I won't post it on a public board but Wirginis went to my high school and these rumors of these allegations have been out there for a month or so.

what is worse than DUI? rape?

just come out with it, what is the point in saying you know something without saying something?
