Looks like we have what may be the first NIL holdout? UNLV’s QB sitting out due to unfulfilled promises.

I don't think their broke, they just felt they could get away with stiffing the kid on whatever was promised. How broke are the UNLV bagmen? It’s not like this kid was some elite transfer. Most of us probably have in our account what it would have taken to land him.
Who? Who is going to do this? The NCAA can't because their 2,700 lawyers are too busy fighting the dozen lawsuits regarding NIL to handle the absolute deluge of lawsuits that this would result in.I always say either make them employees and pay them real salaries or enforce these pay for play NIL deals and make everyone ineligible because pay for play is still against the rules
A few sources saying that kid's agent was approached with a $300k offer to transfer and UNLV wouldn't match it. Not sure how legit it is since he only has a season left after this and takes a major integrity hit (unless he can frame himself as the victim of unpaid promises).Looks like we have what may be the first NIL holdout? Oh yeah, like that even matters anymore. Once you opened the turnstiles and made these kids perpetual free agents, all of that rah-rah nonsense went out the window. This guy seems like a real “team-player”.
This notion probably isn't too far off base. For all we know Marion is already planning his another jump and promising this kid he has a starting spot at the next stop.I blame Marion.
Reading between the lines, this is what I was thinking. He outplayed his contract by a couple of wins and them being ranked. Now he wants to get paid. I’d think most coaches would take pause at a kid who quit mid year as soon as he had an offer… but let’s be real, someone will take him and ESPN will lap up the redemption story spun by some SID.And another from a 247Sports analyst.

Can’t disagree. Only ones that will avoid him will be the ones who are set at QB.No one is going to back off this kid because he quit the team for more money. He will get what his market value is in the portal. His issue is that he is a running QB and not really a passer so he will only be attractive to certain teams. I love what this kid is doing. More kids need to do this. College football does not enforce pay for play NIL deals so I want to see more of this stuff happen. And since they are not employees and have no contracts, they are free agents every year. I want to see more kids who are overperforming hold-out for more money. I want it to be more of a farce that it already is.
If he succeeds, college football may as well not exist anymore. Everyone is going to be quitting any time some other team calls them up and offers a bag.No one is going to back off this kid because he quit the team for more money. Hmmm.... who is the OC and QB coach? 🤔This just gets more interesting. His brother tweeted about it, then deleted his entire twitter account probably after realizing that now a national media would start going through his old tweets. Probably a smart move on his part.
Now the agent is reaching out to media-types. Wonder where this is all going to land.

There's a lot of claims in the Thamel tweets. Both sides have their mouthpieces spreading their side, but now that it's claimed that it was all "verbal" then neither side will be able to prove what was said. If the kid's family is lying it should be pretty easy to show the claim he was only paid $3,000 for moving expenses is bullshit.Hmmm.... who is the OC and QB coach? 🤔
Sluka was verbally promised a minimum of $100,000 from a UNLV assistant coach for transferring there. None of that money was paid, per Cormartie.
BTW, there's a lot of info in those other Thamel tweets as part of that thread.
And another from a 247Sports analyst.
You don't think this could lead to other issues? Say Pitt goes on a run in the ACC. Maybe Clemson Ford comes in and says we'll give you $1 million to come here next year, but you have to leave the team immediately. Clearly nobody has any real authority to stop that.As they should. The difference here is that Sluka has a RS year. A kid like Holstein does not so if some school calls him up and offers him $2 million, there's no reason for
him to quit until after the season. Now, he could hold-out because he wants Pitt to match LSU's offer right now but I dont think you'll see that happen that much. This is more of a unique case of a kid having a RS year left and wanting to cash in.
I liked what Mike Gundy said in a presser. He said he tells his players that once fall camp begins and during the season, dont come to him or have their agents come to him for more money. Its done. The deals are done. They address those in the off-season.
"What agent and family transfers on the word of verbal guarantee for the final year of eligibility?"There's a lot of claims in the Thamel tweets. -NIL is formalized now, Nevada even has laws protecting it, you can sign contracts. What agent and family transfers on the word of verbal guarantee for the final year of eligibility?
-The kid had other suitors, but UNLV was apparently the only school that agreed to let him finish out the semester and get his degree before arriving on campus. But they are going to stiff him more than 97% of some promised offer and shoot themselves hard in the foot for all future recruits?
-This wouldn't be the first kid that has lied about NIL money not being paid before transferring in the past year. There was that OL from Oklahoma that negotiated a raise from their collective then transferred the next morning. Then the RB from Oregon State (now Miami) that said their NIL lied about paying him but somehow had two new cars and a house. Then after his first quarterly check for $92k was released publicly, he said that they didn't "give him the car and house but he earned it" or some shit like that.
lol, his brother said that Sluka passed on multiple big P5 and G5 written offers to sign with UNLV on a verbal offer if he manages to win out the starting job against the other transferring QBs.Apparently his brother is talking to Bud Elliot on the record about what has happened.
Elliot is going live with it on the Cover 3 podcast. I didn’t get a chance to tune into it live.
Agreed I saw the kid play against Kansas and was less than impressed. Theres no one out there knocking on his door to throw a ton of cash at him.The idea that a dude that was an average QB transfer, and has played average to below average, has big time offers that he wants to accept and get out of his UNLV commitment, is not believable.
He was a 3* rated college player. His value hasn’t really gone up from there.
