- Louisville will begin workouts June 8. 1st in ACC

- Ohio State planning on 20K-22K fans. Possibly 40K-50K if restrictions are relaxed

- Miami Dolphins (and you'd assume the Canes as well) planning for 15K fans.

- Legendary Auburn Coach Pat Dye has been hospitalized with coronavirus

- The seasons for the 3 Cal State Schools (San Jose, Fresno, SDSU) could possibly be canceled.

Personally, I think its nutty to try to squeeze a season with no or limited fans in this fall, especially now since there have been positive signs with that Moderna trial and that a vaccine may be available by the end of 2020.

Obviously, this is all based on the governor allowing sports to be played in their given state. I then add that the first organization that tries to do this will realize that it will not work. You can not limit the number of fans attending a game in a fair and objective manner.
You will make a small percentage of your fan base happy and anger the rest, it's just not worth it for the organization.
I saw a gentleman on the local news yesterday talking about how he has a heart condition. His doctor told him that with the Coronavirus situation, it's in his best interest to not attend Steelers games this year. Problem is, he has been a season ticket holder for something like 35 years. He contacted the Steelers about his situation and they told him he still had to pay for his season tickets and "seat license" if he wishes to keep them. He was not happy with the Steelers organization. Are you telling me that this guy (and many thousands of others) are going to have to pay for their seats and then be told they can't attend certain games? C'mon on man???
The smartest thing that they can do is to have zero fans in attendance at all games.

The TV networks have a HUGE investment in live pro and college (especially football and men's basketball) sports. The pro teams and colleges don't want to lose that TV revenue. The TV networks need the inventory.

In person attendance will depend on what happens over the coming weeks and months. Probably need to know by July.

Sure you can let's say the Steelers have 50k season ticket holders. Just give half, tickets to 4 different games. So 25k a game no one gets all 8 games

That's a misleading headline anyway. The Steelers are only selling 50% of INDIVIDIUAL GAME tickets, not season tickets. I have lived here my whole life and never knew the Steelers sold individual game tickets but apparently they do but probably a very small number. The Jets have said they arent selling any individual game tickets which is a much bigger deal for them as they dont come close to selling out based purely on season tickets like the Steelers.

How freaken stupid to fall for this seat rationing scam for the sake of social distancing.

How would Ohio state determine who the 25k are? Highest donors?

Sheesh, I can’t even imagine how much some of those OSU tickets would go for in the open market.

My gut feeling is that the beginning of the football season will look different than the end of it. The optimist in me says that we begin to find ways to live with this that doesn’t cause outbreaks. Or that widespread effective treatments are found.

They keep a certain number back. My buddy has been on the season ticket wait list for 7 years. First 4 years he got one game a season last 3 he has gotten two games. They could sell them all as season tickets but it's a better business model to spread some out to other fans

Play ball. There will be football and there will be some fans in attendance. Even if it’s 15,000 it’s going to be significant and just what the American sports fan needs. Television money flows in and universities and athletic departments are saved although some treading water.

Fauci time is up. He needs to take a 3 month vacation. Governor Wolf is wrong on so many fronts. He should join Fauci on vacation.

The Stillers have ALWAYS sold individual game tickets, and they have always announced ahead of time on television, on the radio, and in the newspapers, when they would go on sale.

Back in the day it used to be about 3,000 tickets per game. I don't know if it's still the same at Heinz, with the added capacity including the recent addition. But this is them holding back maybe 1,500 or 2,000 tickets. In other words, no big deal.

That was my thought too, although I haven’t seen numbers posted. It’s being positioned as a sign that things are going to be different, and I don’t think it’s more than a couple thousand. Could be very different, but that wasn’t the moment where things changed.

Just use a lottery and those not selected do not have pay and also do not lose their ticket rights. Seems pretty simple.

Thank you for doing this! There's still playing in empty stadiums in Germany while they have all but gotten rid of the virus. Meanwhile, the US marches towards 300K deaths by Election Day racking up 1500 bodies per day, leading Western Civilization in daily death rate.

There will not be fans at college games in the fall. I said it before and I said it again. I also predicted no fall season but that was based on administrators saying they wont play without fans but they have been changing their tune on that. But I'm sticking to my prediction of a 2nd semester season.

My gut feeling is that the beginning of the football season will look different than the end of it. The optimist in me says that we begin to find ways to live with this that doesn’t cause outbreaks. Or that widespread effective treatments are found.

Pitt games probably won’t notice much of a difference.

Regardless of fans in the stands, I hope the season is played. Pitt has a legit chance for a huge season and a top 5 defense. If season is cancelled, I don’t see Hamlin, Ford, Twyman, Jones, etc sticking around and delaying NFL for yet another year. They will want to move on by then.

I agree...Spring College FB would be JV version. No Seniors or draft eligible Juniors would risk playing. SEC 100% playing in Fall.

Why would a senior or draft eligible junior risk playing in the fall using your logic? Only a major injury would hurt their draft status. An ACL tear in September will hurt their draft stock as much as it would in March.

A lot different Draft in April with a February - April season. Most draft eligible players spend from end of Fall season (December/January) till combine with personal trainers prepping. Look @ yhe increasing # of players not playing their Bowl games.

The problems come IF all SEC plays...OSU, PSU, Nebraska, Wisconsin and others are ready but Michigan, MSU, Rutgers decides not to play....not sure where the ACC stands. Texas is go (so says the Gov) but not sure the rest of Big 12, the Pac 12 is iffy.
Who knows. We'll know in a month.

I have no doubt a certain political party will make sure there are 300,000 deaths attributed to the Covid count whether they really are or not.

You guys sure do love conspiracy theories. Its like your safety blanket. Don't like something? Insert conspiracy theory.

I’m not into conspiracy theories actually (and you might be surprised to learn that I have no political affiliation — I vote for dems as much as Republicans), but you brought up Election Day. Are you telling me that the dems won’t politicize the hell out of this all the way to the election and spin the numbers as they see fit?

And aren’t you one to be chiding someone about wild theories? :)
