OT. Steelers trad foe DK Metalf

Bring back Wilson and his moon balls? Geezez

Arthur Smith could invent a new offense: the Lunarburgh. He can wear a full astronaut suit on the sidelines, and Rocketman can replace Renegade.

Edit to change that to Apollo412. I knew I could do better than freaking Lunarburgh.

It just feels like another instantly-gratifying cupcake for a franchise that desperately needs to change its approach to long-term health. Is a 27-year-old straight-line speed guy going to be part of the equation when this team, which doesn't even have a QB, is ready to compete? I don't know.

It's not the worst thing in the world, as long as we can get out of the deal painlessly if need be. But I'd have rather seen this team move Watt, embrace a season or two with a subpar record, and try to acquire as much young talent (including a QB) as possible.

I'm keeping an open mind to the idea that all these young linemen pan out and Pickens/Metcalf creates such an unguardable dynamic that this offense does an immediate 180. But I don't know if that's realistic. And even if it is, this defense got absolutely shredded against better competition.
Agree with you. I think that the answer is for the team to reset and then try again.

However, they will never do that under Tomlin. And maybe never. So in the absence of a complete fire sale, did they improve the roster relative to the price paid in draft capital? I think that's a strong yes. Did this move also give themselves roster flexibility? I think likely yes.

I don't think it was the perfect move. But I think it was directionally correct. Plus what if they do somehow hit on a QB? Whether that's Fields, Darnold, Jaxson Dart, a rookie next year, etc. It's unlikely but let's assume that one of those guys really pans out. Wouldn't we want to have DK Metcalf in that case? Having better players, especially at premium positions, is always the right move.

Watt is an UFA this upcoming season , right ?
Seems the move on from watt is in process .
If a trade was available - they’d have had to do it last year.

Trading Minkah after June 1sr is the next move.

Guessing it doesn't matter. Although I would think Calvin Austin would still be ahead of Wilson. It's such a weird construction of pass catchers though, as none of them are precision route runners. Do we just send Metcalf and Pickens deep all day and hope they devote safety help to each of them? Obviously that's a pretty reductive, half-baked simplification.
That’s why I think they will try to move Pickens. You need someone who can run routes and consistently get open over the middle of the field. That surely isn’t Pickens

If they can get a number 2 or even a high number 3 he’ll be gone.

Oh and Dan Moore got 80 MM from the titans with 50 guaranteed.

Who wants to make a bet that like Dotson he becomes a much better player with better coaching

That might be good for our compensatory hopes. I put him in the Bud Dupree category. Like he came in the contract year, but I'm not sure that I'd trust that to continue.

I mean to be fair......The Steelers have won as many playoff games with Watt and Minkah as they have with you and me playing those positions.
