Panther-Lair Pandemic Fantasy Draft - Just The Picks Mam

Hey, I got lost in the moment. I thought like a REAL scout/GM/Coach. I was wavering between Wanny, Matthews and Cam. I thought, man how many other guys have a 6'9" perimeter guy who can stroke it and run the floor? And I got lost. It is not like he was awful at Pitt.

Getting closer to a meltdown. ;)

Your boy averaged 7 points per game while at Pitt. You are the Matt Millen of this draft so far. :)

Are we going off of Pitt career without factoring in NBA career in picking teams and picking winners?

Like Adams and Cam? What's the rule on those guys? Recruits took Cam but a guy like Artis had a MUCH MUCH better Pitt career. Thoughts?

Yes, we are only factoring off the guys best year at Pitt. If he transferred and played well at UNC, that means nothing and neither does an NBA career.

* 16 teams
* Snake Draft
* 6 players each
* Players evaluated on a single Pitt season
* Big East/ACC era only
* 4hr/max per pick - dropped 3 spots otherwise
* No drafting between 11am & 7am unless...
* Then a Big Tourney we vote winners on

Just tuning in...but I assume these picks are based on what guys did ONLY at Pitt. If so how the hell do you take Cam Johnson lol. Many guys left after him had superior careers at PITT. The next pick Jason Matthews has a far better career at Pitt.

Speaking of Matthews he was and will probably always be the greatest shooter in Pitt history. Even if the line was moved back he would have been the best Pitt shooter ever. All 4 years he shot at least 44% or higher form 3.
He couldn’t compare to Billy Knight or Larry Harris. Jason was not even in the same league.

Best single year at Pitt.

I didn’t see those guys play. From what I heard and can look up yes of course they were better all around players. But I’m just talking about 3 pt shooting. As we know they didn’t have the 3 when those guys played. But since they have had the 3 pt shot only 15 guys (at least taking minimum 200 3pt shots for a career or 2 plus a game) shot over 45% for a career. Matthews shot 45.7% for his career putting him in the top 10 all time % wise. That’s ahead of guys like Ray Allen and Kyle Korver. Of course Matthews was not the player that Allen and Korver were but he proved to be an all time great COLLEGE 3 pt shooter and the numbers back this up.

@4Mark_Marty up next.

I would like to thank Recruits for this pick as I can't imagine he's still here if not for a Cam Johnson or two.

With the 27th pick, I select C/F Talib Zanna.

13.0pts/8.6reb/59% from the floor/and a ridiculous 5.4 win shares.

@Bethlehemjohn is up.

PG Carl Krauser
C Talib Zanna

Where you getting win shares from?

I will pick Jerry "ice" McCullough as my PG.

I had two names in mind depending on who you picked. You took one of the two, so I'll go the other direction. I need a center, and they are running low. So....

With the 29th overall pick I take Jaime Peterson.

PG -
SG -
SF - Clyde Vaughan 21.9 ppg, 9.2 rpg
PF -
C - Jaime Peterson 13.9 ppg, 9.4 rpg

If nothing else, we are going to be able to rebound the basketball.

Next up, @Sean Miller Fan

Good pick, I had Jamie in the paying board draft, so I have switched it up.

Sean Miller Fan takes Sean Miller. You guys really underrate him. Remember what happened when he got hurt before his senior year? They had 4 very good multi-year starters but no Miller. I hate to knock Bethlehem John but Krauser went WAY too high. And Ice over Miller? No way.

If I'm ranking Pitt PG's, I go:

1. BK
2. Fields
3. Cummings (
4. Miller
5. Krauser
6. McCullough

I don't consider Gibbs or Wanamaker PGs really. Combo guards

You’re gonna catch so much hell for putting Miller over Krauser. You could make a really good argument for Krauser as the #3 overall player on the big board.

This is a criminal underrating of Krauser and a dismissal of Wanny’s PG skill. Ask @thirteenNINE what he thinks about that.

I feel like Miller is a top-30 player for sure.

Remember what happened when he got hurt before his senior year?

First of all, junior year. But yeah, I remember what happened before his junior year. Do you?

What happened was that the guy who replaced him, who had never really played point guard before at all, broke the all time Pitt season record for assists per game.

I'm not saying he was a bad player. Far from it. But he had just about the easiest job in college basketball his first couple seasons here.

He was a good player -- but he's not close to Knight, Krauser, Fields or even McCoullough.

I'm taking a break for a while.

You’re gonna catch so much hell for putting Miller over Krauser. You could make a really good argument for Krauser as the #3 overall player on the big board.

That is craziness! I love Krauser. I really do. One of my all-time favorites. But #3 overall? That's insane. He was a great player but his flashiness and swagger overrate him just a little bit and I don't mean to sound like I am knocking him because I really do love the guy.

Gibbs not a PG in my mind, Wanny probably. As far as ranking the PG's, it's really so hard. Fields and BK were probably the best at running a team. Cummings was unquestionably the most dynamic and best athlete of the bunch. Krauser probably had the biggest heart. McCullough was very good on some very average teams and Miller was great at being the maestro of some very good teams. The way you rank them is really based on what you value more in a PG. The way we are doing this, it is to pick the guy with the best single year stats, but that really doesn't factor in what makes a guy good or great.

I don’t think he is #3 overall, but he is far and away better than Miller. Not even close.

He couldn’t compare to Billy Knight or Larry Harris. Jason was not even in the same league.
I watched Billy Knight and Larry Harris play every one of their games while at Pitt and BK was without a doubt the best Pitt bb I ever saw , however neither he nor Larry Harris were as pure a shooter as Mathews. Both were taller and more complete players than Jason and if they were available in the draft I’d have taken them in this order BK , LH and JM .
Now for some smack , the team I’m building will be tough to defend and JM was instrumental in the direction my team is being formed . You stop them you might have a chance , but good luck !

If we are basing this on "one season," his one season looks pretty good.
Well now I know why DT’s team in the pay board draft was so bad...drafting out of the #1 spot stinks!! I’m not happy about this. Lol.

it’s very interesting and quite different going off of one year instead of the entire Pitt career. So with that in mind, x’s frosh year statistically was pretty good and I believe Demetrius Gore also had a very good year as well. So I’ll take those two:
Rd 2 Xavier Johnson
Rd 3 Demetrius Gore

@DT_PITT you’re back on the clock!
