Panther-Lair Pandemic Fantasy Draft - Just The Picks Mam

That is craziness! I love Krauser. I really do. One of my all-time favorites. But #3 overall? That's insane. He was a great player but his flashiness and swagger overrate him just a little bit and I don't mean to sound like I am knocking him because I really do love the guy.
We had this discussion during the pay board draft. Krauser fell to me at #10 overall and I happily took him. Knight, Cummings and Fields were all gone I believe. But statistically, based on my analysis, he was the top PG in the draft, and I believe thirteenNine has him #1 or #2 as well. And surprisingly, McCullough was right there with the others. All ahead of Miller.

Well now I know why DT’s team in the pay board draft was so bad...drafting out of the #1 spot stinks!! I’m not happy about this. Lol.

it’s very interesting and quite different going off of one year instead of the entire Pitt career. So with that in mind, x’s frosh year statistically was pretty good and I believe Demetrius Gore also had a very good year as well. So I’ll take those two:
Rd 2 Xavier Johnson
Rd 3 Demetrius Gore

@DT_PITT you’re back on the clock!

I don’t know why but I really thought X would fall more.

Hey ... my team on the other board isn't that bad!!!:mad::mad:

It's better than about half of the ones there.

But yes, drafting at spots #40 and #41 in that draft was REALLY tough. I was thrilled to get the two players I got there.

Well I’m not thrilled that I had to take him...but it’s that whole PG conundrum. I had to get one or be stuck. Look at our other draft. There were some guys with really solid teams...but a glaring hole at the point.

He averaged 16.5 per game, had decent rebounding numbers, 4.5 assists per game, all in an all ACC freshman team season. So that’s all pretty respectable comparable to the others.

You know I’m just ribbing. It is rough watching 40 picks go before you and see all that talent drop off the board.

Steven Adams

Stats-wise, he wasn't great but he was a borderline elite rebounder, defender/rim protector. I really debated going McGhee here as I need a big. McGhee had the better career and probably even a better single year but I am basing my team off who I think was the best basketball player during their time at Pitt and who would most help me win this tournament basing it off of their Pitt careers and I think if I had to pick 1 guy for 1 season, I would go Freshman Adams over Senior McGhee but just barely and partly because I think Adams played below his potential in his 1 year here and the great SMF would get more out of him.

DT taking Tray over Robinson, the greatest assist to TO of all time, says a lot. I would have agreed with that.

I wasn't sure which to go with. But we had a draft on the pay board and James Robinson is my point guard on that team and I wanted to draft different players on this team.

For what it's worth, Tray went before James on that draft too. Both were pretty good, but Tray's "best season" looks better.

Man, tough call. Can't decide between Aiken, Wilson Frame and Porter.

Going to go with Wilson Frame as my SF with 12.7 pts, 5 Rebs and 1.4 assists.

Next up @CougarClaws
JWF’s 40% three point shooting isn’t anything to sneeze at, and his ~10 threes against Syracuse in the ACC tournament deserves mention in the pantheon of Pitt conference tournament individual performances. Classic Pitt type of senior.

I am continuing my philosophy of tough, offensively efficient, strong defenders with position versatility.

With the 38th pick I select Gil.

PG/SG Carl Krauser 16.0p/4.8r/5.9a/39.4% from 3/ 4.4 win shares
C/PF Talib Zanna 13.0p/8.6r/59% shooter/ 5.4 win shares
SF/PF Gilbert Brown 11.3p/4.4r/2.7a/41.3% from 3/4.4 win shares

Surprised no one took Darelle Porter yet. He was a better all around player than Tray, J Rob and X. Could play the 1, 2 or 3. Was a better defender than the 3 guys I listed.

I’ll take either of his last 2 seasons. PPL forget what a good passer he was as he holds the singles season assist record at Pitt and is 4th all time in assists. Also is one of 3 Panthers to ever have a triple double.

Was a great Athlete who had a shot at the NBA if not for knee issues. His follow up dunk against G Town was just as good or maybe even better than Pages.

IMO really underrated and was a more complete player than Tray, J Rob or X.

With the 39th pick of the draft I take CURTIS AIKEN SR. of Buffalo, NY. Curtis Aiken signaled the resurgence of Pitt Basketball at a time when Big East Basketball was becoming KING. He was the first of many great ball players recruited to play at Pitt during the Big East Era.

He was someone I considered with my last pick.

Really not close. Porter was better in almost every area. J Rob is known for his assist to TO ratio but Porter was really good as well as he was 4th in Pitt history with Assist to TO.

Porter shot a higher % from 2 and 3, was a better rebounder, averaged more assists, more steals, blocks, and could get his own shot if needed because of his athletic ability. He was the better defender as well...could defend multiple spots.

As a pure point guard, which is what I wanted for my team, Robinson was better than Porter. But Porter was absolutely more versatile. Although I'm not sure that a guy who spent most of his time at the three who averaged 3.8 rebounds per game is a better rebounder than a guy who played his whole career at the point and averaged 3.0 rebounds per game. Surely you would expect your starting three to get more than 0.8 rebounds per game than your point guard.

Also, while Porter did have a good A/TO ratio it should be pointed out that they had almost the same number of assists in their career but Porter had over 140 more turnovers.

One player was athletic & aggressive, the other slow & risk averse.

If you wanted a point, Robinson would have to be your guy. If you wanted the better, more athletic player, it would be Porter. This goes down to what position you need. I almost picked Porter, but not as a point guard.
