If the steelers don't draft James Conner or peterman....

I told myself not to respond to this... but I cant resist. You do sound like you need mental help, so I am not belittling you (OK, except the mental help part), but your broad statements are ridiculous.

A. You are on a Pitt football website
B. Did you go to school at Pitt??? If so, you should certainly be more of a fan that represents your alma mater more than some arbitrary group of players from all over that play for lots and lots of money for the city.
C.If you didnt go to school and love the steelers more than anything in the whole wide world... then why are you here posting??
D.You dont root for people?????? Huh??? So, not rooting for James Conner to beat cancer?
E. I think it seems rather pathological to root for players and teams and write 11 THOUSAND post on a website... then say you can literally care less and hope they get destroyed when they leave Pitt.
Lol. Good observations. Different strokes I guess for all. Have to concur though. While I do like the Steelers, I have much less attachment to them than I do Pitt. And while I generally don't care where the Steelers players had played college ball, I definitely DO notice (and dislike) when they have PSU or WVU players, and I readily admit I judge them harshly. For example I really dislike this James guy at TE and I see no reason they drafted him yet didn't even consider signing JP Holtz as a UFA. I thought Holtz was a better, tougher TE, and James is a puss ... and I don't care how it worked out, I still think that. Is that irrational bias? Yep. Don't care. Can't fight that thought when i see that doofus on the field for them.

It was similar when the Steelers had some safety from WVU a couple years back, name escapes me at the moment. I thought he sucked. I'd blame him for everything. They blew a lead and lost a bad game to Oakland a couple years back (I think Gradkowski actually scorched em). That WVU dude was the total dog in my eyes, even though it was an equal opportunity suck job for sure.

And as much as I hate the Patriots, dam it, Dion Lewis was a fav of mine in the Wanny years and I got a kick out of him as the hero of their divisional playoff game last year. I couldn't help it. I didn't necessarily want him beating the Steelers the following week ... not at all. But if they HAD to beat Pgh I would have liked to see Dion (or Sheard) do well.

Same with Fitz in the SB vs. Zona. Hated they gave up that late TD to Zona. Glad for the last second comeback. But dug that it was Larry who scored that TD. Again that's just how I'm wired.

Just curious, but why, exactly, do you root for the Steelers or the Panthers? What is the attraction? A team is just a group of individuals working to achieve some goal. Why bother watching? Just get the scores after the games. Since you do not identify with individuals, what attracts you? Uniforms, colors, mascots, perception, geographical location.... WINNING? If winning is your reason to support a team then you better hook up with the NE Patriots or Alabama. Get on the Cub's bandwagon before it passes you by. You will be much more gratified and still be able to continue to avoid the distasteful thought of considering the actual participants as fellow humans.

The TEAM attracts me, JUST LIKE EVERY NORMAL FAN, I've been a Steelers fan, hard core, since 1969, probably watched 95% of all games since then. It doesn't matter who is in the uniforms, I root for THE TEAM. Why? Because it's entertainment and more fun to watch if you care who wins.

Where's JP Holtz now? Is he playing in the NFL? James isn't great, but he's not that bad either, I don't care where he came from, he's a Steelers player now, so for me, it's easy to root for him. I just want the bast players, if they came from PSU or WVU, I never really cared. I'm RATIONAL about it, totally detached from that emotional stuff.

It's TV ENTERTAINMENT, or a rock concert. I don't get what you mean, "identify with the individuals", like what? Like as if we're personal friends, when we aren't? They are more like characters on a TV show to me.

We will never know.

All I know is that they have passed on Pitt players so many times it starts looking like it isn't a coincidence.

I still won't forgive them for not trading up for revis. Timmons was a very good player, but the steelers always had CB issues and still did after that. With him and Ike Taylor they would have had the best DB's in the league.

WTF?!

I remember this all too well.

The Steelers were primed to take Revis as the team above them didn't have a need at CB at the time . then I remember hearing ..The Jets have traded up for the (15th?, My memory is a bit hazy on the spot) pick ...

Once I heard that I said oh F*CK, and sadly I was right.

Anyways the Steelers were going to take Revis, and they were being smart about not giving up picks because they had it figured out that they would be able to get him. A last minute draft day trade is what screwed the Steelers from taking Revis.

This is NOT the fault of the Steelers.

Dan Marino not being a Steeler QB and the list of losers at that position for the Steelers IS
And there are others, but I never totally got over that one!

Edit: Fixed typo

Why do lots of people assume that the Steelers would have taken Revis over Timmons?

Everybody who thinks it matters if the Steelers sign Pitt players should be happy today, Conner, Orndoff and Terrish Webb, they took 3! And even got one year Pitt player Rushell Shell.

It was well known how badly they wanted him. They just weren't willing to give up more draft picks in a trade to move up. It's not a coincidence the jets traded to the spot right ahead of the steelers, they wanted him too and it was trade to that spot or miss out on him.

In most years the steelers will just take their next preference as opposed to moving up, there's probably been others that fall in the same situation as Revis. The only guys they just weren't gonna miss out on were polamalu (we now know why) and Holmes because they were the defending champs and really didn't need anything other than another receiver.

37 Pitt players. 32 NFL teams. That's 1.16 Pitt players per team. If drafted randomly odds are that the Steelers would have 1 Pitt player. They have 0. Maybe it's just coincidence.
so, what are the odds? (hint, odds do not have your premise to be the case---throw 37 red balls into a bag of all balls totaling around 3,500[15 draft years]. Inconceivable that the Steelers might not draw a red one, eh?))

Well, if you have over 100 picks, odds are that you will choose a red ball at least once. I never said inconceivable.

ill take it about 3 steps further. I love the steelers but actively root against James. Never did r
That before. I'm not gonna say I wish for a season ending injury every time he catches the ball but I do hope some opposing safety destroys him every single time I see him catch the ball.

J.P. Holtz went undrafted and ended up on the practice squad for the Browns. I think Nate could have played for them, but his career doesn't really indicate that they missed.

I think the best argument for a guy that they passed on and shouldn't have would be Andy Lee. They have cycled through punters for years, even wasting a 3rd or 4th rounder on Sepulveda, while Lee has been among the best in the bidness.

To be fair, the Steelers did sign Andy Lee to an offer sheet as a restricted free agent but San Fran matched the offer. Would have been the first time the Steelers sighed another teams restricted free agent
