Steelers offense and Fields

Not to troll but I really want some thoughts on this…….What QB could come here and have success with Mike Tomlin having his fingerprints in the offense?? Like if they got a Matt Stafford would he be “ Matt Stafford “ here or would he turn into the scared first year version of Stafford in Detroit because they are paranoid about turnovers????? I’m starting to legit believe this franchise would ruin any QB ……
It’s crazy how people forget that the Steelers were a top 5 passing attempt team for most of Tomlin’s career behind a first ballot HOF QB.

It’s almost like they are tailoring the offense to the skill of their QB and not trying to make bad QBs sling picks all over the field. I bet Justin Fields might feel a little different after getting traded for peanuts and will now be commanding a $15 million/year payday after his performance in a “Mike Tomlin” offense.

How much of that was because Dan Rooney made the choices for coordinators for Mike Tomlin, allowed Ben to pick the other coordinator and then once that failed Art let Mike pick Canada?? Do you really credit Mike Tomlin for those top 5 offenses??? His choice for a QB was Mitch Trubisky……and he was adamant Mitch would be good when his own drafted qb that he screwed over outplayed him in EVERY training camp together….You really think it was Mike????

Offense seemed pretty open the first 5-6 games for Russ , until his play fell off a cliff
Yeah you could be right. He also seemed to tear up Cincy and then for whatever reason went into a shell after that. Why it happened is the question. Could have been him. Could have been Tomlin and Smith pulling back the reigns as reported. I don’t think there’s any question Tomlin is most comfortable in a no risk/protect the fooball offense. But he hasn’t had a dynamic passer either to truly know if he has it in him to let the QB push the ball down the field.

Sounds like the Narduzzi narrative with every other OC.

the real question is, Can Fields Develop into an actual QB. can his weaknesses be fixed. it's extremely obvious he stares down his WRs, absolutely has no ability to go to his progressions to even find his second option.

These were his weaknesses coming out of college and after 40 starts in the nfl, still are. If this can be fixed, you extend him. If this is as good as it gets, you move on..

And even if we believe he is still young and developing, do we have the coaches to fix him? lord knows we hate the idea of having a QB coach in this city, in college and the nfl. our mediocre OC can do the job of 2 people apparently. why follow the nfl and college world with having a designated coach for the most important position in football.

Tomlin teams have been top 5 in passing attempts or passing yards 7 times.
When? A previous life and a previous QB? Habits change and people change through time. And the HoF QB era is ancient history.

Year 5 right? Through 4 years, he's the slowest decision maker in the NFL (just ahead of RW). The stillers would be in a better position with Daniel Jones if want to go young re-tread. At least he can read a defense and get the ball out on schedule.

I mean - Russ stated playing like Denver Russ .
You think Sean Payton pulled back the reigns on him, too ?

Sometimes it’s okay to see a pattern outside of the Steelers to see if there was a correlation.
Russ has never been an air it out kinda qb , now with limited mobility and his arm
Going- he gave us a better chance of a passing game and scoring more than Fields - but that’s a very low bar .

You can see that they opened up the passing offense a little bit after Wilson came in, but doesn't look like they pulled back the reigns much in the back part of the season, other than if the run game seemed to be clicking.

Although you can see that he really dialed back his targets as the year went on, whether by choice or by scheme. Oddly enough, Wilson's best game, versus Cincy with 400+ yards, had his lowest intended air yards of the season.

Is 28th of 32 good? Asking for my guy Omar.

What’s sad is that our QB situation is so bad that we were willing to trade our top two picks for, according to this, the #15 QB. If they’d ever make a trade like this, it better be for a top ten quarterback… would someone like Dak Prescott be worth it, depending on what happens in Dallas?

even avg qbs like Stafford or Carr are going to demand a 1st round pick and more from a team in a trade, that's how bad the QB market is now. Just a "sellers market."

so even if we want a 1 year stop gap / band aid like one of those two, we are going to have to give at least a 1st round pick and likely more. i mean is it worth it? I actually kind of like Stafford but dude is 37.

That's why i think you just go for Fields for 2 years and try and find your next qb in the draft. i know, more of a hope than a strategy but there just isnt squat out there..
LOL @ Stafford being an average QB. He'll soon be in the HOF.

Stafford is definitely not a lock for HOF.
2x Pro Bowls
0x All Pros
0x top 5 MVP votes
1x Led the league in any major QB category (Passes Completed)
Losing record as a QB
Currently 23rd among QBs in the Pro Football Reference HOF Monitor and nearly 20% below HOF average score.
He's basically Ken Anderson with a ring, but even Anderson won an MVP and 2x All Pros but didn't make the Hall.

Lol. Stafford is Ken Anderson?

And how did Kirk Cousins and Kyler Murray make the pro bowl is 2021 but Stafford did not?
