The most likely Bid-Stealers still alive

Big Ten:
-Ohio State. But they would need to beat Michigan State and then Purdue. Not likely.

Big East:
-Villanova. They'll have to beat Creighton, Xavier, and then Marquette/UConn. Not likely.

PAC 12:

-Oregon/Washington State. The winner of these two would have to beat UCLA and then likely Arizona.
-Arizona State. Needs to beat USC to be in.

ACC:
-UNC. Would have to get through UVA, then Clemson/NCSU, then Miami/Duke. Tall task, but they have the talent.
-Clemson. Would have to get through NCSU, then UVA/UNC, then Miami/Duke. Win the first two might be enough.

Big 12:
-Oklahoma State. May already be in. Has to beat Texas to feel safe. Big underdog.

C-USA:
-Anyone other than FAU. Root hard for FAU to win this conference tourney.

That's it. That's the potential list of bid-stealers from teams that were not in prior to this week.

Live post-game show - Tune in to talk about Pitt-Duke when the game ends

Not a great first half for Pitt, but we'll be live after the game to talk about it on the Panther-Lair Post-Game Show. Tune in on YouTube to share your comments and questions. Good or bad, we've got plenty to talk about, so I hope you join the conversation.

Pitt's defense over the last 4 games

2 weeks ago Tuesday, Pitt annihilated BC at the Pete en route to a 12-3 record in the ACC and sole possession of 1st place. BC has actually since won 3 straight games.

On the other hand, Pitt has went 2-2 against 4 teams in the bottom half of the ACC.

In those 4 games, on average, Pitt's defense is allowing 79 points, 51% from the field, 43% from 3, and 9 made 3s per game.

Flat out, if Pitt doesn't reverse this trend, they either won't make the NCAAT, or won't last long if they do make it.

If Pitt is down during the game or loses? I’m hoping for a win and I typically stay off the threads during the game until the game ends.

Checking Your Sanity...

You would sign in blood to win the ACC Tournament if the price was being bounced in the first round of the NCAAT, right?

Because I get the impression that a lot of people are treating today as a "house money" affair. And it definitely is that as it pertains to getting into the NCAAT. But the ACC Tournament still gives us a realistic - albeit highly unlikely - opportunity to hang a banner, while the NCAAT does not (unlike I'm mistaken and a Sweet 16 would get one up; can't recall off the top of my head if we've done that... But I still think an ACC Tournament championship is more meaningful than that).

Plenty of seats left for the ACC Tournament

I hate when I hear that Greensboro is such a great basketball town. Although they have always sold out in the past, the place is generally empty until Friday unless UNC or NC State is playing. Now, they cant even sell it out. Duke and Wake this afternoon, 2 local teams and not even a sell out. $10 tickets on Stubhub. You could go to 2 ACC Quarterfinal games for the price of 1 WPIAL playoff game.

Greensboro needs to go.

Josh Cohen-Portal

Josh Cohen from St Francis entered the Portal today. He is a 6’10”, 220 lbs Jr.
This year he averaged 22.8 ppg,8.3 rbg,2.5 apg.
Shot 58.5%. He had 2 games of 40 pts & 2 games of 30+ points.
Comments said he is the best player in the Portal at this time.
I have seen him play. I think he could help Pitt at center. He brings a different dimension to the game than what Pitt has at this time.

How has practice been going for Dior and Will?

We have heard he is practicing, but any one actually know how he looks and is doing? Scars from hearing Malik was the next best thing. Heard Jeffress also has returned to practice…We really need depth for next year.
If starters are Fede, Hinson, Dior, G. Diaz, CC, and then depth of J Diaz, Santos, Jeffress, and other freshman, maybe that is deeper than this year, but not sure what will can contribute or if he finally makes a turn. I’d settle for solid D even if shots aren’t dropping.

Ga Tech ACC Tournament Game & Other Dribbles ...

** Tonight I'm only offering the most positive comments. And I’ll start with congratulations to our Pitt Panthers for an ACC Tournament which all but assures them of an NCAA Tournament berth!

** It took me a few days to write post game after the BC loss in the ACC tourney last year. There was next to nothing positive in my comments that day. But one year later, we head to the ACC quarterfinals. Like I said … Congratulations!

** In Capel’s post game last year, he remarked he needed to get better players. Obviously, that’s exactly what he did. When you do that, you most deservedly win Coach of the Year.

** But as it turns out, the best of those better players was already on his roster.

** Jamarius was certainly at this best this day. I think I may have said some not so great things about Jamarius after the BC loss last year. Turns out I couldn’t have been more wrong.

** Let’s look at the man’s work from the eight and a half minute mark when the Panthers held just a one point lead, to when Blake’s three put the game out of reach at 85-77. In that time, JB's scoring or assists accounted for 20 of the Panthers' 25 points.

** All of the clichés – go to guy, putting a team on your back in crunch time and on and on – can certainly be applied to Jamarius.

** Although, I'm glad I can share that despite the nervous moments in this game, I was really never all that nervous. It was just before Burton’s fine stretch when I became convinced we’d win. Tech was at the line with a chance to go up one but missed both. Yet they still got the offensive rebound and kicked it out for a wide open three that missed. It always feels like when you are in trouble when threes like this go in. But this one didn’t, and then JB took care of business starting with the assist to Greg for a triple. A huge six point swing.

** Heaping all of the praise on Burton doesn’t do the rest of the team justice, of course, Everyone including Guillermo played important roles. This was indeed a team win.

** And although it was indeed a team win for a bunch of guys who indeed play as a unit, I must also admit that even though Coach Capel went and got some better players, it took me a long time to realize that they were indeed better ones.

** But the Colgate Kid, the Marquette Sub, the Journeyman Transfer, Skinny Twin G, and the Unknown JUCO combined for 64 points on the brightest ACC stage today. Last year on a similar ACC stage, the whole team combined for a paltry 46.

** Grumbling about defense is a typical refrain I’ll offer on days when the Panthers surrender 50 in a half. But not tonight. We are long past the point of dissecting this team’s weaknesses. At this point in the season all that’s left to do is appreciate wins.

** And appreciate this one I’m glad to say I did. And if we can get one tomorrow, I’ll appreciate that one even more. I like our chances tomorrow too. I’m not saying we will win it. But we can.

** The wins I’ll appreciate most as any that follow after Selection Sunday. For the first time in seven years, we will get the chance to do just that. Better players, better coaching, better team and a much, much better disposition for an entire program.

** Once more … CONGRATULATIONS!
