Steelers vs Browns Gamethread

They’d cut anyone else. They don’t want to disrespect Roethlisberger, and I can understand that to a point

they have done enough respecting Ben for his career. He’s made a ton of $$$$ with the respect the franchise has shown him. Players say this is a business, and they need to have a business discussion with him. They have a terrific receiver group and Ben is going to get one of them hurt with his candy arm.

Not sure how anyone could have any excitement going into next year with him at QB. He’s just killing the cap and isn’t nearly good enough anymore to engender any optimism. At least if you dump him you can start building something for the future.

He’s a below average NFL starter right now and will be worse next year.
Right but you can't find a buyer so it's one more year. Eat the cash sandwich and draft what you can. Focus on a Ben replacement in 2022. Lawrence is a nice dream but off the table. Darnold from the Jets might be possible. Maybe the Stillers program works. I don't know.

The yardage and TDS he piled up are fools gold. He’s had a number of games in the last few years and particularly down the stretch this heart where he’s stunk out the joint in the first half and piled up stats in the second half with the game out of hand

A buyer? Why on earth would anyone even consider "buying" him? At this point the only question should be if he retires or if he doesn't want to if the Stillers tell him he needs to retire or he'll get cut.

And then if he still doesn't want to retire, you cut him.

Pittsburgh would fire Tomlin before cutting Roethlisberger. Both probably need to move on however
Tomlin has the lifetime contract courtesy of the Rooneys. The only way he won't be head coach of the Steelers is if he decides to move on. Knowing he will be the coach for the forseeable future has to dampen the enthusiasm anyone has for this team going forward.

We have been a bumbling mess under him the last so many years either missing the playoffs or getting pasted by lesser teams when we do get there. Considering the cap problems, this team needs a rebuild and I wouldn't mind if they started with a new coaching staff.

Yeah, I know he didn't play well but you guys are deranged in your hate for the guy.

I mean seriously, after that performance you want to be the guy sticking up for him? Really?

He was awful tonight when it mattered. And he was good when it didn't. Which is a terrible thing for a quarterback at any level.

If you the Ben lost this game you really are an idiot. This whole team was flat garbage. Every plater and coach. This was still a game in the 4th quarter.
Ben didn’t lose the game by himself but he had a big hand in it. When youre making 40 million far more is expected. The kid on the wash team played better

You understand that when a quarterback is continually getting passes batted down at the line of scrimmage that that's his fault, right?

Apparently not.
He had fewer passes batted down than Cleveland did tonight despite over 50 passes. Every team gets passes batted down every game.

I don't disagree at all. $40 million means squat when the team and coaches around you are sub par and remember that $40 million was part of a larger contract he extended to try and keep the team competitive. This was bound to happen eventually, so using thst argument is really short sighted.

Lot of blame to go around, but #7 was obviously the main culprit.

I don’t think anyone is really hating on him, but enough is enough. Other than the 2nd half of the Indy game he has been a bad QB for many games now. QBR isn’t a perfect stat, but it had him as the 21st ranked QB in the league for a reason.

He is in the bottom half of QB’s in the league right now and would go into next season rated as the worst starter in the division by most. I don’t know exactly what an extra 19 million in cap space would buy the Steeler’s next year, but they definitely need to cut Roethlisberger and find out.

Yes
3 Turnovers by him/ one really pouncey /
Ended any chance
When your offense scored -7 points in the first snap
And his play killed more drives than anyone else

I don’t think they’ll have to cut him. Like I said the look I saw at the end of the game makes me think he knows it’s time to hang it up. I also think he knows that the OL is a big issue and unlike when he was younger and could escape that could get him. Killed

And both of those things are a product of his right arm turning into a noodle.
That’s certainly part of it. But I’d also add that what made him great was his ability to extend plays. Now that he’s immobile he can’t do that he has to go through his progressions quicker which I don’t think was ever a strong suit for him like say a Brady

Well the off-season certainly should be entertaining to see what they do not only with Ben but a number of other positions in addition to the coordinators

Yeah, I agree. He's trying to cover up for the physical limitations that he's dealing with at his age. He was able to fool people earlier in the season, but the longer he played the more clear it became to everyone that he just doesn't have the same physical gifts that he did when he was younger.

If he had their fire and dedication Brady has he might have a shot to come back. Many thought last year Brady was done But it appears he worked hard on his arm and conditioning. Ben has never been a workout warrior and that has caught up with him

You read these posts and say no one is really hating on Ben?

Two things I’ll include to what contributed to tonight’s loss:

1. The sack streak came to an in unceremonious end. Something was definitely off if the league’s best pass rush, led by the likely DPOY, couldn’t get through such a depleted offensive line.
2. A glaring trend has emerged: Not counting Super Bowl XLV (NFC opponent), all but one of the Steelers’ playoff losses under Tomlin has come against teams who they already played in the regular season. To me, that says that teams know how to adjust to our game plan and we struggle to counter those counters.

He’s certainly the leader in 2 yard pass attempts by a huge margain
But hey, he gets the pass out in 2 seconds. I’m tired of hearing that stat of how fast he gets the ball out. What it really means, he has to throw quickly 2-5 yards down field. No more down field throws like he used to do sitting in the pocket or scrambling and tossing deep.
